GKN Wheels on world’s fastest JCB Fastrac

GKN Wheels and Structures report that the company was one of the key partners in JCB’s recent tractor speed record. Following two successful runs at Elvington Airfield in York, the JCB Fastrac broke the world record for a tractor, achieving a peak speed of an incredible 153.771mph and an average of 135.191mph.

Meyer Logistik ‘maximises uptime’ with Goodyear Total Mobility

Temperature-sensitive goods transport fleet Ludwig Meyer GmbH & Co has signed a Goodyear Total Mobility fleet management contract. The partnership comprises the tyre manufacturer’s latest generation of fuel-efficient tyres, launched earlier in 2019, predictive digital solutions and the support of the pan-European service network TruckForce. “Punctuality and uptime are key in our operations. Particularly in the case of temperature-controlled transportation, any downtime of a vehicle may entail significant follow-up costs.” says Christopher Steyer, head of fleet and project management at Meyer Logistik.

Pirelli develops Cyber Tyre to interact with 5G network

Pirelli has presented what it calls the “World-first 5G enhanced ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) services.” The tyre manufacturer claims to be the first tyre company in the world to transmit information detected by intelligent tyres regarding the road surface via the 5G network. The demonstration took place during The 5G Path of Vehicle-to-Everything Communication event organized by 5GAA – Automotive Association, of which Pirelli is a member, in Turin, Italy.

Michelin licensee Fit2Go aims to make checking tyre pressures easy

Illegal, defective or under-inflated tyres contributed to 2,288 reported car accidents on British roads between 2014 and 2018, according to the latest statistics from the Department for Transport – more than any other vehicle defect. Ahead of Road Safety Week (18-24 November), British technology firm Fit2Go TPMS, a Michelin licensee and best known for its tyre pressure monitoring systems, says its handy Michelin Pressure Checker gadget could help to significantly cut those figures.

Pirelli returns to Formula 3 at Macau Grand Prix

Pirelli will return to Formula 3 when it supplies tyres to the new-look FIA Formula 3 World Cup alongside the fifth running of the FIA GT World Cup at the Macau Grand Prix. This is the second time that Pirelli has supplied the world’s most prestigious Formula 3 race after the Italian firm made its debut in the category in 2016.

Agreement reached on EU Tyre Labelling Regulation changes

Proposed changes to the EU Tyre Labelling Regulation came a step closer to becoming reality on Wednesday when the European Parliament, Council and Commission reached a political agreement on the matter. The text of the Regulation now awaits formal approval by the European Parliament and the Council. Once both endorse the updated Regulation in the coming months, it will be published in the Official Journal of the Union and will enter into force 20 days after publication. The new Regulation will apply from 1 May 2021.

Melbourne, Australia has become the fifth location for Pirelli’s global flagship P Zero World retail store. The new opening follows Los Angeles (2016), Munich (2017), Monaco (2018), and Dubai (2019) as the latest site for the brand’s “boutique store for tyres” concept. P Zero World stocks Pirelli’s most exclusive products alongside bespoke services for owners of sports and luxury cars.

Goodyear takes first World Endurance win at Shanghai 4h

Goodyear has taken its first win since its return to international motorsport in 2019 at the third round of the 2019/20 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in Shanghai. The Jota Sport Oreca of Roberto Gonzales, Anthony Davidson and Antonio Felix da Costa won after a race-long battle with its sister Goodyear-shod Jackie Chan DC Racing car of Ho-Pin Tung, Gabriel Aubry and Will Stevens. The Jota Sport triumph marked the first Goodyear win in an FIA World Championship race since Michael Schumacher and Ferrari in the 1998 Italian Grand Prix.

Continental and Pyrolyx agree 5-year recycled carbon black supply deal

Continental AG and Pyrolyx have entered into a five-year recycled carbon black (rCB) supply agreement for Continental tyre manufacturing facilities worldwide. The companies have been cooperating on developments in the technology field of recovered carbon black “over recent years”, according to Continental. Furthermore, the latest joint development commitment aims to lay the foundation for using recovered carbon black (rCB) in various tyre segments during tyre production.

Yokohama wins SEMA award

The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) announced its Best New Products Award winners this morning at the 2019 SEMA Show. SEMA’s annual New Product Awards competition recognizes outstanding achievements in the development of products being introduced to the automotive specialty-equipment market at the SEMA Show. Products are judged in 16 award categories, and each category has one winner and two runners-up.
