Kumho all-season, winter tyres get Auto Bild commendations

Kumho has continued its recent good form in tyre tests, outstripping 30 rival manufacturers to take fifth place overall in Auto Bild’s latest all-season tyre test. The Kumho Solus 4S HA32 was comprehensively put through its paces in a test that spanned two continents. Kumho rates the test highly, saying its results “will be regarded as highly significant by both the European tyre trade and its consumers.”

Apollo Tyres hosts De Gea, Elanga and van de Beek in India

Apollo Tyres is hosting Manchester United footballers David De Gea, Anthony Elanga and Donny van de Beek who are in India to celebrate the launch of the third edition of Apollo’s “United We Play” grassroots football initiative. The three Manchester United first-team players will be seen in Goa on 1 December at the event, marking the maiden visit to India for any footballer from the current Manchester United first-team squad.

Continental recycles Extreme E tyres into basketball court

Continental is donating rubber paving stones made from recycled Extreme E tyres for the construction of a community basketball court in Hanover. According to Continental, 200 Extreme E tyres have been recycled from the first season. The Extreme E tyres underwent “a particularly complex manufacturing process to extract all chemical components from the tyres” before transforming them into paving stones. Now the tyres will be given a second life as the foundation of a high-level basketball court.

Hankook tyres OE on all-electric SUV Škoda Enyaq iV

Hankook has continued the expansion of its original equipment portfolio for electric vehicles (EV). The manufacturer will supply the electric Škoda Enyaq iV with Ventus S1 evo 3 ev tyres specially developed for electric cars. The partnership follows Hankook’s existing OE deal with the Volkswagen Group to supply the same tyres to the Volkswagen ID.4. Depending on the model variant of Škoda’s first electric SUV, sizes 18 to 20 inches are available. Hankook joins Bridgestone in supplying the Enyaq iV, with the latter offering its Enliten Technology enabled Turanza Eco, Tyrepress sister site WhatTyre’s Eco Tyre of the Year 2022.

Apollo Tyres’ Chennai Plant was recently awarded the Deming Prize, one of the highest awards relating to Total Quality Management (TQM). C Thomas Mathew, Unit Head, Chennai Plant, Apollo Tyres Ltd received the award from the Deming Prize Committee in Tokyo, Japan on Monday, 14 November.

Yokohama Rubber reports record business profit in 9-month 2022 figures

The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. has reported nine-month 2022 financial results showing record profitability. Despite a 23.6 per cent decline in operating profit to 45.3 billion yen, Yokohama reported a 24.2 per cent increase in business profit, which amounted to 46.1 billion yen (£281.579 million; 321.040 million; US$330.998 million); and a 33.7 per cent increase in sales revenue, to 615.8 billion yen (£3.761 billion; 4.288 billion euros; $4.421 billion).

Nokian Tyres investing 650 million euros in greenfield factory in Romania

Nokian Tyres’ is investing around 650 million euros in a new passenger car tyre factory in Romania. The new greenfield factory will be located in Oradea in the North-West of Romania, near the Hungarian border. The annual capacity of the factory will be 6 million tyres, with expansion potential for the future. According to an official statement, the site will also house a distribution facility for storage and distribution of tyres. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2023 and the first tyres are estimated to be produced in the second half of 2024. Commercial tyre production is expected to start in early 2025.

Mitas Enduro Trail+ tyres OE on new 2023 KTM 890 motorcycle

Mitas has signed a partnership with KTM Sportmotorcycle GmbH to fit its Enduro Trail+ tyres to the new 2023 KTM 890 Adventure R motorcycle. Following the Mitas Terra Force-R on the 2021 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S and Mitas E-07 on the 2019 KTM 690 Enduro R, this is the third Mitas original equipment fitment approved by KTM.

Michelin’s ‘visionary’ long-term sustainability approach recognised

Michelin Tyre plc was presented with the Environmental and Sustainable Solution of the Year Award for the second year running at the Tyre Industry Awards 2022. Announcing the winner, event host Louise Minchin said: “Michelin’s entry was considered visionary and a template for an approach to long-term sustainability in manufacturing within the context of the circular economy.” The Tyre Industry Award was judged by an independent panel of Liverymen on the Wheelwrights’ Craft Committee.
