Pyrum Innovations will soon begin work on a new facility not far from its main plant in Germany. It reports that the town council in Homburg has unanimously approved the sale of a section of land to Pyrum for the purpose of setting up a new pyrolysis plant. The company hopes the planning and approval process can now “begin as soon as possible.”

DRC a Tyrexpo first-timer

Originally created by the US military as a retreading facility, Danang Rubber (DRC) claims the highest market share for truck tyres within Vietnam, a country with almost 100 million people and a very active road transportation industry. The company is also a first-time Tyrexpo Asia exhibitor and is “enthusiastically looking forward” to introducing itself to Asian and global markets.

Enso hails 35% reduction in tyre particulate matter emissions

Enso, which describes itself as “the world’s first sustainable tyre manufacturer”, reports that it has “successfully proven the benefits of specialist electric vehicle (EV) tyres” in trials conducted as part of the TfL FreightLab Innovation Challenge. According to the company, Enso tyres outperformed standard-fit tyres both in terms of reducing particulate matter (PM) emissions by up to 35 per cent and improving energy efficiency by up to 10 per cent in a 15-month trial.

Sentury will significantly increase production capacity in 2023

Sentury’s revenue and net profit in 2022 increased year-on-year. The tyre manufacturer’s annual report shows that last year’s revenue was 6.29 billion yuan (about £760 million; €860 million), an increase of 21.53 per cent. Net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was 800 million yuan (approximately £97 million; €1.1 billion), an increase of 6.3 per cent.

Bridgestone’s New Premium – a global brand & streamlined manufacturing

New Doublestar factory in Cambodia

On 20 February 2023, the board of directors of Doublestar reviewed and approved the proposal to build a factory in Cambodia. The tyre manufacturer reportedly plans to establish a joint venture with UBE Development Co., Ltd in order to complete the plans.

Sustainability playing greater role in ADAC tyre tests

German motoring association ADAC will soon publish its 50th anniversary tyre test together with partner clubs in Europe. To honour the occasion, it has tested 50 tyres in two sizes instead of the usual 30 or so. The half-century milestone is also accompanied by a shift in focus: In addition to safety-relevant driving qualities, in future it will place a greater emphasis upon each tyre’s environmental and sustainability characteristics.

Auto Bild 2023 summer tyre test – the finalists

Price adjustments lift Michelin sales & income in 2022

In spite of lower sales volumes, a combination of “firm pricing discipline” and “fast-growing non-tyre sales” helped Michelin increase its overall sales to €28.6 billion in 2022. The company achieved segment operating income of €3.4 billion, while net income reached €2.0 billion for the year, up 8.9 per cent on 2021.
