Bridgestone recall: UK tyre market not affected

Following last week’s news that Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations is recalling 21,513 Bridgestone Dueler H/L, 422 Ecopia, Dueler H/L Alenza, Ecopia H/L 422 Plus, Turanza EL440, and Firestone Destination tyres, on this side of the Atlantic company representatives have confirmed that the UK tyre market is not affected call back.

Over 4.5 million extra MOTs coming this autumn, pent-up tyre demand building

5.5 million drivers took advantage of the government’s six-month MOT extension between April and July 2020. This caused a rush for MOT slots between September and January last year and the same is set to happen again as garages prepare for what some are calling “super September”. On top of all that, nearly 1 million new cars registered between September 2018 and January 2019 are set for their first MOT. As a result, some sources are predicting 16 per cent more MOTs in September 2021 than the year before and 29 per cent more in October. And, of course, more MOTs mean more tyre and fast-fit business. But this is just part of the story, there are also growing signs of pent-up tyre demand hidden in the details of the MOT data.

Michelin buys out Allopneus SAS

Michelin has added the last 60 per cent of leading French tyre e-tailer Allopneus to the 40 per cent stake the leading tyremaker bought in 2015. Michelin now “intends to develop its knowledge of customer behaviour and the purchasing process and thus continue to offer the best possible experience, from online information seeking, right up to tyre fitting”, company representatives wrote in a statement dated 25 August.

Goodyear supplying autonomous trucking solutions to Plus

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has entered into a strategic collaboration with Plus (formerly Plus.ai), a global provider of self-driving truck technology, to provide optimised, autonomous trucking solutions. Goodyear brings a range of services to this collaboration, including connected tyres, and the partners will explore how Plus’s autonomous driving system can incorporate feedback from these tyres into Plus’s online, machine learning-based fuel optimisation, to further improve fuel economy.

New Camso CWL tyre 532 aimed at wheel loaders in Japan

Camso has introduced the CWL 532 bias tyre in order to offer “off-road performance and optimal traction for compact loaders operating on mixed and soft surfaces”. It has been specifically designed to meet the requirements of compact wheel loaders in Japan, where these machines now constitute the third-most important segment of compact equipment in the construction industry.

Bridgestone opens news tyre distribution centre in Australia

Despite Covid-19 restrictions preventing too much fanfare, Bridgestone has opened a new distribution centre in Truganina, Victoria, Australia. The official opening of Bridgestone’s Truganina hub sees the relocation of the company’s former warehouse, state office and store at Derrimut relocated to the new site, as well as the convergence of the state operations for Lube Mobile, Webfleet Solutions and the expansion of services into new segments – highlighted by the launch of an onsite truck wash.

Sailun returning to trade fair circuit at UK & German shows

The past 18 months have been “very challenging and unique”, comments Sailun Tyre Europe. But the company now says it is delighted to announce participation in two forthcoming trade shows. The first is here in the UK: In conjunction with Kirkby Tyres, local distributor of the Sailun truck tyre range, the tyre maker will occupy a 125 square metre stand within Hall 4 of the NEC when the Commercial Vehicle Show comes opens in Birmingham on 31 August.

Tirebuyer and Tread Connection partner to create Treadsy Mobile Solutions

Tirebuyer has formed an exclusive partnership with mobile tyre franchisor Tread Connection in order to capitalise on the “explosion” of mobile tyre fitting demand. Tirebuyer will use the Treadsy brand as the identity for its mobile solutions division and over 11,000 existing Tirebuyer brick and mortar install partners as well as more than 80,000 American Tire Distributor customers will be given the opportunity to add a Treadsy van to their business to provide mobile tyre installation services to their own consumers in exclusive geographic territories. Tread Connection’s existing network of franchisees will be integrated with the Treadsy brand and technology that will also be assigned preferred territories within Tirebuyer.com.
