Giti Tire has launched the new GT Radial Maxmiler AllSeason2 across Europe. The next generation van tyre achieves A-grade wet braking on the EU tyre label and is supplied in bigger sizes and higher speed ratings to meet the demands of the latest vehicle rollouts. The next generation update on the brand’s original all-season tyre for van and light truck markets, wet braking has been enhanced by more than 15 per cent, while wet handling is improved by 20 per cent over the predecessor.

Goodyear develops bespoke Eagle F1 SuperSport tyre for 2023 Maserati GranTurismo

Goodyear has developed a bespoke version of its ultra-ultra high performance Eagle F1 Supersport tyre for the different versions of the Maserati GranTurismo. The car will be available with a V6 twin-turbo configuration with two different levels of performance. The tyres have been tuned to suit the characteristics of the new Maserati models and carry MGT markings to show that they have been specifically developed for the Italian brand.

Schwalbe debuts first ‘used tyre’ bike tyre

Bicycle tyres are generally beyond the Tyrepress.com remit, but we’re making an exception for a product billed as the first of its kind with a “closed-loop product cycle.” In addition to being made from 100% Fair Rubber, the Schwalbe Green Marathon contains around 50% renewable & 20% recyclable raw materials. This 20% includes all carbon black used in the tyre.

Pirelli supports USTMA National Tire Safety Week

Pirelli will support the US Tire Manufacturers Association’s (USTMA) annual National Tire Safety Week campaign from 26 June to 3 July. The initiative seeks to educate drivers on the importance and simplicity of everyday tyre maintenance as a part of general road safety. The association argues that tyre safety is “on par with wearing a seatbelt and following speed limits” in terms of driving safety, since tyres “are the only part of a vehicle that truly touches the road.”

Rapid EV purchase consideration growth, but motorists remain apprehensive – Bridgestone

Nearly half of UK motorists will make the switch to an electric vehicle in the next five years despite heightened concerns about charging point infrastructure and range anxiety, a survey commissioned by tyre manufacturer Bridgestone suggests. The survey of 2,000 UK car owners was conducted online by Research Without Barriers (RWB) between 23 February 2023 and 28 February 2023. 40 per cent said they would buy an EV by 2028, up 11 per cent from a similar result in a 2022 survey conducted by YouGov for Bridgestone (29 per cent),. 67 per cent raised fears about the availability of charging stations, a rise of 1 per cent versus 2022, while half of all respondents continue to have range anxiety, an increase of 21 per cent over the 2022 survey.

First airline selects PresSense connected tyre

Brazilian airline Azul has chosen the PresSense connected tyre and its pressure measurement system to equip its fleet of nearly 110 aircraft, which includes Airbus A320s and A321s, and Embraer 195-E1s and 195-E2s.

Toyo Tires with Ring Racing gets Nürburgring podium in NLS4

Toyo Tires with Ring Racing had a successful outing in its recent visit to the Nordschleife, achieving a podium finish in the Nürburgring Langstrecken Series race. After qualifying fourth in their Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2023, Heiko Tönges took the start in car number 170, with Michael Tischner taking over for the middle stint and team principal Uwe Kleen bringing it home for the finish. The Toyota GR Supra was equipped with Nürburgring-soec Toyo Proxes Slicks.

Turbulent times in tyre town

Pirelli recreates Scorpion BK for Lamborghini LM002 in Collezione range

Pirelli is expanding its Collezione range of vintage tyres with the Scorpion BK for the 1986 Lamborghini LM002. The tyre’s size and strength put it at the cutting edge of tyre technology when it was introduced, while its distinctive “ears” helped the tyre stand out further: lateral winglets that allowed the tyre to float across the desert sands. Recreated as part of the Pirelli Collezione range dedicated to historical cars, the tyre was shown at FouriConcorso: an event for the collectors’ cars near Lake Como. Pirelli has supplied tyres to Lamborghini’s SUV range from 1963, through the LM002, to the modern Urus.

Auto Express makes Hankook Kinergy 4S 2 all-season tyre of the year

Three of Hankook’s flagship tyres have been recommended in consumer motor magazine Auto Express’s Product of the Year Awards. The all-season Kinergy 4S 2 won the all-season tyre category, following its tyre test victories in 2022 and 2021.Hankook’s Ventus S1 evo 3 SUV tyre and new Winter i*cept RS3 also received the magazine’s “Commended” rating in other categories. “Once again, we are delighted with these Product of the Year awards from Auto Express and this proves that Hankook tyres are a great choice for our UK customers all year round. Hankook is committed to ongoing investment in research and development to continue improving our portfolio of products and their performance,” comments Chang Yool Han, managing director of Hankook Tyre UK.

Pyrum, SUEZ building UK tyre pyrolysis plant

Pyrum Innovations is bringing its pyrolysis-based tyre recycling technology to the UK in partnership with SUEZ recycling and recovery UK Ltd. The two companies have entered into a one-year exclusivity agreement for a facility with three pyrolysis reactors that can process approximately 20,000 tonnes of end-of-life tyres annually. During the year SUEZ will determine the plant’s location and, with support from Pyrum, begin and finance the approval process.

Tyrenet MD Mike Riley retires

After more than 57 years in the tyre business including two decades as Tyrenet managing director, Mike Riley has announced his retirement effective 30 June 2023. Announcing the news, Tyrenet representatives highlighted how Riley’s contributions have been “integral to the success of Tyrenet”, adding: “Mike will continue to play a strategic role in the company as chairman, moving from the daily operations to overseeing and influencing the future growth of Tyrenet.”
