Pirelli launches Cinturato Winter 2

The latest Pirelli winter tyre for mid-sizes cars and CUVs has arrived, and the tyre maker reports that the Cinturato Winter 2 debuts a number of “important new technologies” that it has pioneered, such as sipes on the tread pattern that become longer throughout the tyre’s life, thereby capturing more snow to provide more grip. Pirelli is launching the Cinturato Winter 2 in 36 sizes for 16- to 20-inch rim diameters and promotes the tyre as a product that “offers extra control in snowy and wet conditions” and “market-leading performance in all sorts of winter weather.”

Linglong achieves OE ‘breakthrough’ with Honda JV in China

Linglong Tire says the start of its original equipment tyre supply to the Honda Crider represents “another milestone breakthrough” for the company in the global OE tyre market. It shipped the first batch of tyres to Guangqi Honda in September 2021, almost three years after commencing development work on OE tyres for the Crider, an exclusive to China model that sits in the Honda range between the Civic and Accord.

Merityre, Bridgestone, Stapleton’s scoop big Tyre Industry Awards 2021

The National Tyre Distributors Association has presented a bumper crop of awards during its 92nd Annual Dinner in Birmingham. In the headline awards, Merityre was made the Overall Tyre Retailer of the Year, sponsored by Pirelli Tyres, Bridgestone took first place in Tyre Manufacturer of the Year, sponsored by The Commercial Vehicle Show, while Stapleton’s Tyre Services became 2021’s Tyre Wholesaler of the Year, sponsored by Compilator / Team Systems. Yokohama Rubber testing remote tyre pressure checking technology

Developments resulting from the partnership between Yokohama Rubber and navigation technology firm Zenrin are currently being evaluated. Yokohama Rubber reports that the partners have begun practical testing on vehicles across Japan that are outfitted with sensors attached to the inner surface of their tyres.

Giti Tire’s Martin Gibson rises to 2nd in BTRC

Giti Tire manager – EU Testing Centre and Motorsport UK, Martin Gibson will enter the penultimate round of the 2021 British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) second in the title race, trailing the leader by only one point. Gibson secured the highest points tally at Snetterton, taking him to 254, after securing two victories, two third places, a sixth-place finish and two fastest laps across five races on the 2.9-mile circuit. His partner at Giti Tire Motorsport, Stuart Oliver secured second in race five to ensure a one-two finish. He also came third, fourth place twice and fifth.

Yokohama HPT appoints new MD, FD as Seward, Melsom take advisory roles

Yokohama HPT, the manufacturer’s UK operation, has made changes in two key senior roles. Nick Greenfield has been named the new managing director, taking over from David Seward, who has moved into a new role as commercial adviser. Brian Philpott has taken over as financial director, with Trevor Melsom taking on the position of financial adviser. Both appointees bring with them a wealth of experience gained within the company and the wider industry.

Vredestein Ultrac & Sportrac for Audi A1

Audi has selected Apollo Tyres’ latest Vredestein Ultrac and Sportrac summer tyres as original equipment for the Audi A1 Sportback, with factory fitment on selected models. Produced at Apollo Tyres’ facilities in Hungary, the tyres chosen by Audi will be supplied in two sizes, 15-inch for the Sportrac (185/65 R15 V) and 17-inch for the Ultrac (215/45 R17 W). Both tyres are also available in the replacement market.

Pirelli reproduces CN12 for Lamborghini prototype redux

Not only is Pirelli supplying its P Zero to the limited-edition Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4, the tyre maker has now re-released the tyre fitted to the prototype Countach LP500 half a century ago. It is doing so to shod a recreation of the 1971 prototype that Lamborghini’s heritage division has built for a wealthy collector.
