RFU and Continental Tyres kick off long-term partnership

At the same time, Continental Tyres has also become the title sponsor of the Continental Tyres Schools Cup. The combined sponsorship package represents a “multi-year partnership”, according to the company.

A major name in UK car tyre distribution, Micheldever Tyre Services (MTS) is also active in the two-wheeler segment and carries a “full range” of more than 1,500 two-wheeler product lines. Motorcycle category manager Kevin Schmid recently shared that MTS is delighted to introduce Eurogrip, one of the fastest-growing names in the powered two-wheeler tyre segment, as a “strong house brand” that enables it to “target growth opportunities in the market.”

Hankook becomes 4th ERC tyre supplier in 2023

The FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) will include four tyre manufacturers in 2023, following the announcement that Hankook is producing a tyre range homologated for the series. The ERC sees the addition of Hankook tyres alongside those from Michelin, MRF and Pirelli as a move that “reinforces the strength” of the championship.

Enter the Future: BKT to become an OTR one-stop shop

A fortnight ago, BKT announced its aim of increasing production by around 67% and achieving an annual turnover of US$2 billion in 3 years. Coventry University study shows economic, sustainability benefits of Bridgestone CV tyre range

A four-month academic study at Coventry University, supported by Bridgestone, has demonstrated the scale of the business case for fitting tyres that assist a commercial vehicle’s efficiency. With increasing economic demands being placed on its commercial fleet partners, Bridgestone contacted the Warwickshire university with an invitation to investigate the benefits associated with its premium Duravis and Ecopia tyre ranges. Business Analytics masters graduate Sreyas Sunil Kunnappally embarked on a painstaking project, arriving at this conclusion. His final report is now being revealed for the first time.

Defra ends T8 exemption on mechanically treating end-of-life tyres

On 15 January 2018, The English Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Welsh Government published a consultation on “proposals to tackle crime and poor performance in the waste sector and introduce a new fixed penalty for the waste duty of care”. That 2018 consultation focussed on the standard of operator competence at permitted waste sites and introduced a fixed penalty notice for breaches of the household waste duty of care. Fast-forward to 13 February 2023 and Defra has made changes to “the ten waste exemptions of most concern”, which includes “mechanically treating end-of-life tyres” (ELT) known as T8 exemptions.

Continental tyres to be made from 100% sustainable materials by 2050

In 2020, Continental AG announced its goal of being carbon-neutral across the business by 2050. Also as of the 2020 fiscal year, Continental confirmed that it is procuring all of the electricity for its production sites around the world from renewable energy sources. Now, the German-based tyremaker is emphasising its goal of making tyres 100 per cent manufactured from sustainable materials by 2050.

Yokohama Rubber reports record 2022

The Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. has reported record sales and earnings in its fiscal 2022 (January to December 2022) figures. Sales revenue increased 28.3 per cent over the previous year, to 860.5 billion yen (£5.338 billion; 6.009 billion euros; US$6.409 billion). Business profit increased 12.8 per cent to 70.1 billion yen (£434.864 million; 489.504 million euros; $522.164 million). Both sales and profit were record figures. However, due to profit from the sale of Yokohama Rubber’s headquarters building in the previous year and other factors operating profit was down 17.7 per cent to 68.9 billion yen.

Continental tyres OE on Mercedes-Benz GLC

The new Mercedes-Benz GLC is available with Continental tyres as standard. Depending on model, Mercedes-Benz will equip all available drive types – petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid – with EcoContact 6 Q in 18” to 20” sizes.

EV tyres for global markets coming soon – ZC Rubber

ZC Rubber has launched a line of passenger car tyres developed for electric vehicles. Initially available only in the tyre maker’s home market of China, EV Pro products feature “notably reduced rolling noise” and “increased fuel efficiency” as well as “improved grip performance” for EVs. The tyre maker says it will soon introduce more EV tyre options for global markets.
