Award win gives Enso US market platform

London-based company Enso Tyres has won the LA New Mobility Challenge 2021, an event co-hosted by CoMotion LA and Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) and supported by the UK Government. The judging panel awarded Enso for tyres that increase electric vehicle range while reducing both air pollution and micro-plastic tyre particulate matter pollution.

Dunlop tyre supplier to EWC Superstock class

The Superstock class of the FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) is set to become a Dunlop-shod contest thanks a broadening of the partnership that began in 2016. In addition to extending its agreement and EWC Official Partner status with championship promoter Discovery Sports Events for a further three years, a three-way deal between Dunlop Motorcycle Tyres, the promotor and the International Motorcycling Federation also confirms Dunlop as the exclusive tyre supplier to the popular Superstock class for near-standard superbikes.

Enviro CEO joins post-Michelin and Bridgestone rCB presentation panel

The CEO of Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro), Thomas Sörensson, participated in a panel on the role of sustainability and particularly recovered carbon black (rCB) alongside executives from world-leading manufacturers Michelin and Bridgestone on 22 November 2021. The presentation was given at Smithers Recovered Carbon Black Conference, an international conference in Amsterdam.

Sustainable S-SBR: Asahi Kasei & Shell sign butadiene agreement

Tyre makers have committed themselves to ambitious sustainability goals, and can only achieve these through the use of sustainable raw materials. We’re currently seeing a spate of new plans and projects in this sector, the latest being an agreement that Japan’s Asahi Kasei Corporation concluded with Shell Eastern Petroleum Ltd. yesterday for the supply of butadiene derived from plastic waste and biomass.

Hankook secures 2nd Auto Express tyre test win

Déjà vu aplenty in this year’s Auto Express all-season tyre test. The publication returned to the 205/55R16 size it last looked at in 2019, and the Hankook Kinergy 4S2 that participated in the test two years ago was back as a contender in 2021. Same tester, same tyre, same size. But this is where the similarities end; whereas the Hankook tyre finished seventh in the 2019 test, this year it won.

Vredestein goes digital in Farming Simulator 22

Farming Simulator 22 has arrived, and with it a cornucopia of tyre brands that players can select for their equipment. In addition to the previously reported presence of BKT, Continental and Michelin, Vredestein is also making its debut in the simulation game. Brand owner Apollo Tyres says this initiative is part of its strategy to raise awareness of the full range of premium Vredestein agricultural products among millions of current and aspiring farmers and supplier businesses.

Renewed ISO 14001 for Marangoni’s Rovereto plant

Italian retreading specialist Marangoni S.p.A. reports that certification body Certiquality renewed its Rovereto factory’s ISO 14001 environmental management certification on 15 October. Renewal followed a thorough audit of Marangoni’s Environmental Management System.

Tyre specialists shortlisted across Garage Star Awards regions

Tyre specialists may not have been named as outright winners this year, but there was at least one tyre retailer named in most of the Motor Ombudsman’s regional Garage Star awards categories. Nearly 1,100 customers submitted a nomination for an individual team member or business accredited to one or more of The Motor Ombudsman’s four Motor Industry Codes of Practice, who they felt had gone above and beyond to assist them during the last 12 months.

Salvadori supplying downsizing system to Michelin/Enviro recycling plant

Earlier this year, Michelin Group and Scandinavian Enviro Systems announced they were building a facility for extracting raw materials such as carbon black, oil, steel and gas from end-of-life tyres, with Michelin holding 90 per cent equity in the Antofagasta, Chile-based joint venture. Michelin has selected Italian tyre recycling solution provider Salvadori Srl to supply and install the plant’s downsizing system, and also to train local staff in its operation. The plant will use Salvadori’s technology to reduce tyres into pieces of predetermined dimensions before further processing them.

‘Circle of the Best’ – presidential accolade for Dandelion rubber researchers

On Wednesday, Germany’s president Frank-Walter Steinmeier announced the winner of the 2021 Deutscher Zukunftspreis (German Future Prize), an accolade bestowed upon those promoting technology and innovation within the country. This year the award went, perhaps predictably, to the research team at Biontech for their work developing Pfizer’s Covid-19 mRNA vaccine, but the awards event also honoured research into finding a viable substitute for the rubber from the Pará tree.

Falken Tire Europe raises tyre prices, UK market unaffected

Falken Tire Europe GmbH has now announced in a letter to its business partners that it is implementing new price lists effective 1 January 2022 for both the Falken brand and for Sumitomo tyres. The price increases are considerable and extend well into the double-digit range. At the same time, the manufacturer is revising down certain price adjustments announced in September for the new year. However, both sets of price increases are limited to the German-speaking markets with Falken/Sumitomo Rubber representatives confirming to Tyres & Accessories that the price increases do not apply in the UK.
