Falken: ADAC tyre abrasion test shows durability development

China’s GS Tire raises Cambodia investment to $300 million

On 11 January 2021 Jiangsu Province Department of Commerce approved Jiangsu General Science Technology Co. Ltd’s (GS Tire) US$300 million investment in a new tyre factory in Cambodia. Company stock market filings had previously described that factory as a $204 million investment, which suggests the scope of the project has increased significantly.

Seyoun Tire’s 3.2 million tyre factory project gets underway

During January 2021, Jiangsu Seyoun Tire Co. Ltd.’s phase 2 Suqian City, China factory construction project got underway. According to industry association CRIA, the new tyre production base is expected to manufacture 3.2 million sets of “high-performance all-steel radial tyres” and become an “all-steel radial tyre production base for heavy trucks”.

Dunlop a KTM Grade A supplier

KTM has awarded Goodyear EMEA, owner of the Dunlop brand across the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, a Grade A supplier rating in its latest evaluation audit. The Austrian performance motorcycle manufacturer will present its Supplier Quality Excellence Award in recognition of the tyre company’s work across product design and development, manufacturing, supply chain, administration and sales functions.

The 2,500-mile tyre: Bugatti recalls Chiron Pur Sport

Bugatti produced just 60 examples of the Chiron Pur Sport and fitted each and every one of these 1,500 hp, 217 mph hypercars with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres. Michelin supplies the semi-slick to Bugatti in the front axle size 285/30 R20 (99Y) and rear size 355/25 R21 (107Y). But after Bugatti observed cracks on the rear tyres fitted to a prototype Pur Sport, it is notifying owners to return their vehicles.

Continental appoints Samir Gupta MD for India

Michelin YieldBib deliver twice the life for Grigg-Aggri

Cornwall-based contractor Grigg-Agri has invested in another set of VF 420/85 R34 Michelin YieldBib tyres for its two Bateman RB35 sprayers after the original equipment rubber lasted twice as long as the tyres it had run in the past. The two sprayers are used to support a wide range of arable crops across the county, clocking up significant mileage on country roads as they travel between farms.

Continental Tyre Group appoints Tarik Görgün MD

David Smith plans to retire as managing director of Continental Tyre Group at the end of March 2022. Continental has announced that his successor will be Tarik Görgün, who is currently head of OE Tyres Japan and global key account manager for Honda and Subaru. Görgün will take over the role of managing director for the UK and Ireland from 1 March 2022.

Falken Tyre Europe to hike continental prices 9% in May

Falken Tyre Europe will increase the prices of its entire product portfolio by nine per cent on 1 May 2022. Falken states the increase reflects global rises in costs for raw materials, energy, and logistics. This price rise does not affect UK Falken customers, where the brand is distributed exclusively by Micheldever Tyre Services. Like Falken, MTS is owned by Sumitomo Rubber Industries. A Falken spokesperson told Tyrepress that MTS would inform its customers of any price rise affecting the UK.

Acquisition to boost renewable energy at Apollo’s Chennai plant

As reported on 18 January, Apollo Tyres Ltd. has acquired a 27.2 per cent shareholding in a renewable energy firm, Cleantech Solar subsidiary CSE Deccan Solar. The tyre maker says the reason it did so is to gain a guaranteed annual supply of 40 million units of electricity for its manufacturing facility in Chennai. CSE Deccan Solar expects to begin delivering in July 2022, and this electricity will account for around 20 per cent of the plant’s total requirements and boost the total proportion of renewable energy to more than 30 per cent.
