Greener & lighter: Uni team develops ‘tyre concrete’

Engineers from Australia’s RMIT University have managed to replace 100 per cent of conventional aggregates in concrete – such as gravel and crushed rock – with rubber from discarded tyres to create a product that meets building codes. The team behind the project says that in addition to contributing to the circular economy, the new greener and lighter concrete also promises to reduce manufacturing and transportation costs significantly.

Prinx and JD.com enter EV tyre agreement

Prinx Chengshan and leading Chinese e-commerce firm JD.com have reached a strategic cooperation agreement. The deal will see JD.com’s automotive department distribute Prinx brand electric vehicle tyres, a new product launched by Prinx Chengshan in 2022, amongst other things.

Reifen Straub distributing Linglong in DACH market

The recent opening of a plant in Serbia testifies that Shandong Linglong Tire has big plans for Europe. One of its key markets within the region is Germany, and the tyre maker has now found a new distribution partner for this country, as well as for Austria and Switzerland – the ‘DACH’ region. German tyre wholesaler and retailer Reifen Straub has taken on this role.

Up & Running: Kumho publishes first annual report since 2018

For the first time since being acquired by China’s Doublestar four years ago, Kumho Tire has published an annual report. Under the title ‘Up and Running’, the South Korean tyre maker reports on the course of the 2021 business year, which the manufacturer closed with a turnover of KRW 2.6 trillion won (£1.65 billion), a year-on-year increase of 20 per cent.

Toyo Tire outperforms first-half 2022 forecasts

Toyo Tire Corporation achieved a 20 per cent year-on-year increase in net sales in the first half of 2022, with the total rising to 223,667 million yen (£1.373 billion; 1.626 billion euros). At the same time, operating income came in at 25,972 million yen (£160 million; 189 million euros) in the first half of 2022. Both figures outperformed the companies first-half 2022 forecasts.

PCL pumped up about Automechanika Frankfurt

Unsatisfied but optimistic: Continental announces Q2 2022 financial results

After an April to June period punctuated by negative EBIT and a net loss, tyre maker and automotive components supplier Continental says it is “looking ahead to the second half of the year with optimism.” It is also maintaining its full-year outlook despite a current headwind that chief financial officer Katja Dürrfeld describes as being “rather like a hurricane.”

Last November, US-based sustainable materials firm Bolder Industries announced that it had entered into a partnership with major recycler Liberty Tire Recycling. The two companies have now completed a formal agreement outlining their North American partnership.

Norgesdekk buys 67% of Valla Däck AB

Norwegian tyre business Norgesdekk has bought 67 per cent of the shares of Valla Dack AB as part of a move into the Swedish market. The Swedish business, which turns 40 this year, had a turnover of more than SEK 190 million in 2021 (£15.444 million; 18.330 million euros).

Davanti launches first all-season passenger car tyre, Alltoura 4-Seasons

Davanti Tyres has launched its first all-season passenger car tyre, the Alltoura 4-Seasons. The new all-season passenger car tyre has been engineered to provide durability and performance in spring, summer, autumn, and winter, with a range of technical features contributing to its versatility. The new tyre joins the recently launched Vantoura 4-Seasons light commercial vehicle tyre in the brand’s portfolio targeting year-round mobility and has been the product of thousands of miles of testing at the UK-based brand’s summer and winter test centres. With the latest generation of premium all-season tyres proving successful in convincing UK and European motorists of the value in fitting versatile tyres, the new product line from one of the UK market’s biggest-selling mid-range brands will challenge for a piece of this growing segment. It also extends the second wave of Davanti tyres, whose names contain the “toura” suffix, introduced since the brand’s launch range from 2015. Other such products include the Terratoura all-terrain tyre, and several versions of the Wintoura cold weather tyre series, which has models for the car, performance car, SUV, and van segments.

Zeta offers enhanced all-season, winter range

For the forthcoming winter season in Europe, SD-International will present an extensive collection of Zeta branded winter and all-season tyres at what it calls “highly competitive prices”. The latest tyres in the range include the Zeta Active 4S, a high performance asymmetric pattern designed to deliver superior driving comfort on dry, wet and light snow road conditions.

RH Claydon opens Carlisle warehouse

Wholesaler RH Claydon (RHC) opened its eighth depot on Monday. The facility in Carlisle’s Kingmoor Park North enterprise zone is now open for deliveries and collections between 8 am and 5:30 pm Monday and for collection 9 am to 12 pm Saturdays. RHC says the addition of the Carlisle depot will allow greater coverage of the north and border areas.
