Twice as many employees as desks – Continental opens new headquarters

On 13 December, Continental invited 150 local political, business and cultural representatives to celebrate the official opening of its new headquarters in Hannover, Germany. It followed this up the next day with a larger event for its workforce. Many employees had by this time thoroughly familiarised themselves with the facility, as they’d begun working there a fortnight earlier.

Continental – more than 120 years of retreading

The word sustainability is in everybody’s mouths these days and retreading plays an important role here when it comes to tyres. But although fitting nicely with the zeitgeist, retreading has been around for quite some time. Continental, for instance, has been in the business for more than 120 years.

Continental turning race tyres into forklift tyres

Tyre makers often refer to the ‘race to road’ technology transfer when talking about motorsport engagements, but ‘race to loading bay’ is something that perhaps only Continental can claim bragging rights for. The tyre maker is using carbon black from recycled racing tyres in its production of solid tyres.

Leading the way in commercial tyre retreading innovation: ContiLifeCycle UK plant

Continental relaunched the Bandvulc retreading plant it acquired in 2016 as the ContiLifeCycle plant in March. Based on what Conti EMEA’s head of commercial consumer solutions Ralf Benack described as the existing “deep knowledge” of Bandvulc, the facility in Ivybridge, Devon has become a technical innovation hub for the company’s tyre retreading programme in the region. When Tyres & Accessories visited the plant later in the year, the manufacturer revealed the results of strong annual investments and its innovative implementation of automated processes for increased efficiency, and the key role that reatreading plays in Conti’s overall sustainability strategy.

Agritechnica debut for new Goodyear products

Goodyear Farm Tires will unveil a new product and display its exclusive Low Sidewall range when it heads to Germany for Agritechnica next week. During the show, Goodyear Farm Tires will unveil its new LW Waffle Wheel, which is adjustable to up to eight different track positions (depending on crop row widths) and allows tyres to seat correctly at lower pressures, improving safety.

Latest Mitas VF tyres coming to Agritechnica

Mitas will present the latest Very High Flexion (VF) tyres in its Agriterra 02 Soil Protector (SP), HC 3000 R, HC 2000, and HC 1000 Narrow Rim Option (NRO) ranges at the upcoming Agritechnica 2023 exhibition, which will take place in Hannover, Germany from 12 to 18 November. The Yokohama TWS brand will also display tyres from its HC 3000 R, HC 1000 NRO, and HC 2000 lines.

YOHT presenting hybrid tractor tyre at Agritechnica

Amongst the range that Yokohama Off-Highway Tires (YOHT) intends to display at Agritechnica 2023 is the prototype of a hybrid tractor tyre. YOHT says that “special technologies used for this tyre effectively bridge the gap between field and road” and deliver the “best suitability for field operations, road transports, and for a particularly long service life.”

Ceat debuting VF flotation tyres at Agritechnica

In addition to the forestry tyres announced last week, Ceat Specialty will use the Agritechnica 2023 show as a platform for introducing its new VF flotation tyre range. The company considers these products “a significant addition” to its line-up.

Giti-sponsored Truck Team Holten delivers four-by-four

Giti-sponsored Truck Team Holten’s modified Mercedes 1622 800HP finished in fourth place in the Rallye Breslau while completing its fourth consecutive year on a set of Giti tyres. The Netherlands-based team entered two vehicles in the Cross Country Trucks category, with the Mercedes team recording five top three finishes in a field of 10 while the Scania 4×4 630 started well, completing the prologue and the first two legs before having to withdraw with significant engine damage. Both vehicles fit the Giti GAO897 mixed service tyre in size 14.00R20. The tyre is designed to work across a wide range of air pressures to optimise performance in different conditions and in temperatures ranging from 55˚C to a minimum of -40˚C.

GT Radial extends winter tyre range with new WinterPro2 ‘evo’, ‘Sport’ variants

GT Radial is delivering the latest extensions to its winter tyre line, the WinterPro2 evo and the WinterPro2 Sport, to European dealers preparing for the 2023/24 winter season. The GT Radial WinterPro2 evo arrives in 44 sizes with rims ranging from 13-17”, section widths from 155-245 and series sizes from 50-80. Manufacturer Giti Tire has introduced another 14 sizes to its winter tyre for performance vehicles, the GT Radial WinterPro2 Sport, bringing the total number to 23. The GT Radial brand is distributed exclusively by Micheldever Tyre Services in the UK.

VW ID. Buzz gives Giti Tire first European electric vehicle OE fitment  

The award-winning VW ID. Buzz will roll off production lines on the GitiSynergyH2, as tyre manufacturer Giti Tire secures its first European electric vehicle (EV) original equipment homologation. The ID. Buzz will fit 235/60 R18 (front) and 255/55 R18 (rear) tyres, and is being produced in Hannover, Germany near Giti Tire’s European Research & Development Centre, where the tyre was designed. The ID. Buzz was recently named Overall Winner and Best Large Electric Car at the What Car? Car of the Year Awards 2023. The tyre has won previous original equipment contracts for Volkswagen Group combustion-engine powered vehicles.

New name for former Continental Russia plant

With holding company S8 Capital having acquired the assets of Continental AG in Russia, the LLC Continental Kaluga tyre manufacturing facility has been renamed LLC Cordiant Kaluga. The new legal name came into force on 17 August 2023 and the business will in particular be responsible for tyre production at the former Continental plant in Kaluga, some 100 miles southwest of Moscow.

GT Radial SportActive 2 UHP tyre range extension: 90% market coverage

Giti Tire has added nine new GT Radial SportActive 2 sizes, including its first 22” rim for premium powerful SUVs and three recently unveiled dedicated electric vehicle (EV) tyres. Size 275/40R22 is aimed at large premium segment vehicles such as the Audi RSQ8, BMW X7 and Range Rover Sport while 275/45R21, 255/50R20, 235/50R19, one of the biggest sellers in Europe, and 255/60R18 develop the pattern’s 4×4, CUV and SUV coverage. The recently launched AAA-rated GT Radial SportActive 2 EV is now available in sizes 255/45R20 and 235/55R19 to cover the largest selling EV models from Hyundai, Jaguar, Kia, VW and Volvo to name a few, while 235/45R18 is aimed primarily at the Tesla Model 3. The tyres are now available in the UK from GT Radial’s exclusive distributor in the market, Micheldever Tyre Services.

Continental advances phase 4 of Hefei tyre plant

On the afternoon of 17 August, Yu Aihua, Party Secretary of Hefei City, Anhui Province, held talks with Christian Kötz, Head of the Continental Tyres division. Tyrepress China learned that Yu and Kötz talked about “accelerating the construction of the fourth phase of the (Hefei factory) project” and planning the follow-up “automotive electronics, R&D centre project”.
