On 10 November, Cheng Shin Rubber Ind., Co., Ltd. announced that it is preparing to increase the capital of PT. Maxxis International Indonesia by US$30 million (about £25.53 million pounds; 29.01 million euros). Cheng Shin Rubber said that the capital increase meets the operation’s needs.

China’s moves to relax zero Covid policies good news for the tyre industry

On 11 November 2022, Chinese authorities issued a notice on how to proceed with the next phase of COVID-19 prevention and management. The statement’s content shows that the Chinese government is still adhering to the policy of “dynamic clearing”, but it has relaxed controls to a certain extent. And that’s good news for the tyre industry as one practitioner told us: “The fight against COVID-19 may not end in a short period in China. However, if the anti-epidemic policies in the next stage can reduce the negative impact on the economy, it will undoubtedly benefit China’s tyre industry.”

Special Forces duo scale 6,812m peak in Nepal to honour Remembrance Day

SAS: Who Dares Wins’ Ollie Ollerton and Nirmal ‘Nims’ Purja, star of Netflix’s 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible, reached the summit of Ama Dablam in Nepal ahead of Armistice Day on 11th November. The pair, both former Special Boat Services operatives, led an expedition up the 6,812m-high Nepalese mountain, accompanied by other former Special Forces soldiers and Royal Marines Commandos. The group climbed the mountain to honour the many British service personnel who have given their lives in conflict and in support of the Royal British Legion. Ollie Ollerton has been supported by Davanti Tyres’ all-terrain tyre – the Terratoura – during his training in the run-up to the expedition.

Proposed Euro 7 standards include tyre and brake particle emissions

The European Commission published details of the new Euro 7 standards on 10 November 2022. According to the commission, Euro 7 will “ensure cleaner vehicles on our roads and improved air quality, protecting the health of our citizens and the environment.” The transport industry has become familiar with the increasingly demanding Euro series of standards over the years. Up till now, they have focused on vehicle exhaust emissions, something that tyres can only indirectly affect through reduced rolling resistance and its impact on fuel consumption and therefore emissions. This time round however, Euro 7 brings with it standards relating to particle emissions from tyres and brakes.

Australia to tyre industry: If you don’t act on recycling, we will

Australia’s government has included tyres in the list of products that industry must ensure are handled and ultimately disposed of in an environmentally appropriate manner. Minister for the Environment and Water Tanya Plibersek added tyres to the Minister’s product stewardship priority list for 2022–23. This list was published on 8 November.

Bolder Industries’ Antwerp plant: Meeting growing demand for sustainable raw materials

When it commences operations in 2024, the end-of-life tyre (ELT) processing facility that Bolder Industries, Inc. and three partners are setting up in the Port of Antwerp will be capable of processing approximately 3 million ELTs a year. Bolder says this will “dramatically increase” production volumes for BolderBlack and BolderOil and satisfy increasing demand for these sustainable, circular raw materials in Europe and beyond.

The Tractor of the Year 2023 awards have taken place at the SIMA show, with BKT serving as main sponsor for the third consecutive year. As this year’s winners were announced, the tyre maker also gave word that it would return as main sponsor in 2024.

Indian tyre makers investing to boost local rubber production

According to Dr Sawar Dhanania, chairman of the Government of India’s Rubber Board, natural rubber production within the country “will not be sufficient to meet the consumer industry’s demands” in coming years. He thus sees an “urgent need” to increase the area under rubber cultivation, something that tyre makers are helping to achieve via the NE-MITRA project.

Michelin Stacker designed to reduce downtime

Michelin has launched the Michelin X Stacker 3 HD for reach stackers, designed for heavy duty use primarily in ports. The new tyre, which replaces the older generation X Stacker 2 LC, limits unexpected machine downtime, reducing urgent need for replacement and extra service costs for the customer. Its optimised tread wear indicator allows for secure wear life projection, meaning operators can plan the appropriate maintenance accordingly.

Yanchang rubber reduces weight of some TBR products

From January to October, Yanchang Rubber sold 3.759 million tyres. It is reported that the tyre company has undergone several reforms in 2022 and established three new departments in April, the all-steel radial tyre business department, the semi-steel radial tyre business department and the marketing centre.
