RH Claydon and Triangle Tyre’s 144 m2 Hillhead 2024 booth

Triangle Tyre and RH Claydon will exhibit together from 25 to 27 June at Hillhead Quarry in Buxton, the UK’s largest quarrying, construction, and recycling exhibition. According to the company, Triangle Tyre Co., Ltd is the fourth largest tyremaker worldwide when it comes to radial OTR tyres. Established in 1953, R.H. Claydon is the official distributor of Triangle OTR tyres in the UK. RH Claydon and Triangle Tyre are hosting customers on a 144 square metre stand.

JK Tyre launches next generation commercial vehicle tyre lines

Leading Indian truck and bus radial (TBR) manufacturer, JK Tyre & Industries has introduced its new and advanced range of commercial tyres for the transportation sector. The company introduced four new variants, the Jetway JUM XM, Jetway JUC XM, Jetsteel JDC XD, and the Jetway JUXe for electric buses. JK Tyre states that the expansion of its product portfolio underscores its “dedication to providing advanced, high-performance solutions that combine superior performance, economic benefits, and environmental responsibility.” It said the launch was a “significant milestone” in its commitment to driving sustainable mobility solutions; the tyres are designed to enhance performance, operational efficiency, cost savings and sustainability.

Pirelli – 5 F1 drivers and teams ‘evenly matched’ in Barcelona grand prix practice

Following Friday’s free practice at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, Formula 1’s exclusive tyre supplier Pirelli noted the presence of five drivers from five different teams in the top five places, saying the grid looks “very evenly matched.” The quickest time was set by Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes (1’13”264) with fifth placed Max Verstappen in the Red Bull (1’13”504) making a gap of only 340 thousandths covering five drivers. In between were Carlos Sainz (1’13”286) in the Ferrari, Lando Norris in the McLaren (1’13”319) and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly (1’13”443).

Hubtrac Europe raises third-quarter 2024 sales forecast

Hubtrac Tires Europe’s sales division has raised its sales forecast for the third quarter of 2024. According to the company, executives of which Tyres & Accessories met with during the recent Tire Cologne exhibition, the revision is primarily driven by “the strategic geographical advantage of its top-tier production plant in Serbia and the recent sharp increase in shipping prices from China and Southeast Asia to Europe”.

Lapin Kumi and Colmec form joint tyre services group

The Finnish Lapin Kumi and Swedish Colmec tyre businesses are forming what they call “a new sustainable and customer centric tyre services group”. This step follows a similar move by fellow Swedish firms Centrala Gummi and Colmec earlier in the spring. The transaction is expected to close in the third quare 2024, subject to customary closing conditions.

LD Carbon wins $28 million Toyota-backed investment in sustainable carbon black and pyrolysis oil

LD Carbon has closed a $28 million Series C funding round led by Toyota’s growth fund, Woven Capital, with participation by Meritz Securities, Investwith, Industrial Bank of Korea, Hyundai Motor Group ZER01NE, Elohim Partners and New Main Capital. LD Carbon will use the investment to scale operations to recycle end-of-life tyres and material from end-of-life vehicles into recovered carbon black and pyrolysis oil through pyrolysis and material recovery technology. From here, the aim is to use the recovered materials to create new automotive parts and tyres. According to the company, “the investment will advance LD Carbon’s mission of accelerating the circular economy while delivering material cost and carbon savings to global customers”.

ETEL/Kwik Fit extends lead at top of 2024 UK tyre retail ranking

After a few years of rapid growth designed to challenge ETEL’s position at the top of the UK tyre retail tree, this year’s data shows that the force of that challenge has diminished and European Tyre Enterprises Ltd (ETEL) is actually extending its lead. The fiercest competition is at the edge of the top five where two manufacturer-connected tyre retail chains have really upped the ante and both have expanded rapidly compared with last year’s table. HiQ comes out as this year’s fastest rise and there have also been significant movements in the mid-table positions as well as some surprising changes towards the end of the top 25.

Tyre recyclers launch manifesto to reform waste rules

Just a couple of weeks before the general election, the major parties published their manifestos. Meanwhile, in the tyre world, UK collection and recycling body, Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) launched its “election manifesto for the reform of UK rules to protect the environment and save UK capability”. The goal is to give “the British political leaders a clear agenda for the new government to implement, whoever wins the vote”.

Goodyear’s ‘largest-ever’ 24 Hours of Le Mans operation proves tyre performance in LMGT3 era

Goodyear ran its largest ever 24 Hours of Le Mans operation to demonstrate the long-distance performance of both its slick and wet tyres in the 2024 edition of the iconic endurance race. Mixed conditions throughout the race set the stage for a strategic battle in both the LMP2 and new LMGT3 classes. Goodyear supplied tyres for 39 cars across two classes, almost two-thirds of the entire grid at Le Mans, using 7,500 tyres, serviced by expert tyre fitters working in shifts throughout the race to remove, inspect and replace a set of tyres in as little as three minutes. In the pit lane, a crew of 18 track support engineers worked directly with each team throughout the race to advise on setup and strategy.

Goodyear to display new GP-4D Gen II OTR tyre at Hillhead 2024

Goodyear will exhibit its new Goodyear GP-4D Gen II alongside its range of OTR tyre products, services and solutions at Hillhead 2024 (25-27 June, Stand U13). The new 750/65R25 Goodyear GP-4D Gen II tyre at the show targets articulated dump trucks with an optimised tread design, multiple steel belt carcass construction, and a tread compound. These features add up to benefits such as versatile tread pattern for balanced performance, improved treadwear as well as high level of comfort for the operator.

Jiangsu General increases PCR tyre capacity at Thailand plant

Jiangsu General said the Thailand plant’s construction project (Phase II) has been modified. Specifically, the tyre manufacturer has increased the production capacity of semi-steel radial tyres at overseas bases and cancelled the plan to expand the production capacity of full-steel radial tyres.

Falken launches Ziex ZE320 performance tyre with sustainability focus

Falken has launched its latest tyre, the Ziex ZE320, which incorporates sustainable rice husk silica in its manufacture. It replaces the existing Falken Ziex ZE310 Ecorun tyre and the new model promises to be even better and more environmentally friendly, says the company. The first twelve sizes of the new tyre are due to arrive in Europe in early summer 2024, with a further 48 sizes set to be added by spring 2025.
