Ceat Specialty reports having increased its production capacity for agricultural radial tyres by 50 percent in 2022, a measure undertaken to meet growing demand for its agricultural radial tyres in Europe and around the globe. Further growth plans include raising production capacity for these products by 55 tons per day over the next two years.

Toyo Tire Serbia tyre factory opens

Toyo Tire Corporation opened its first tyre production facility in Europe on 14 December in the Municipality of Indjija, the Republic of Serbia. Production had partially started in July 2022 as the factory became operational with all equipment being installed. However, the official opening was attended by President Aleksandar Vučić of the Republic of Serbia and a number distinguished guests. The new factory is expected to reach its full capacity of approximately five million tyres per annum (based on tyres for passenger vehicles) during the second half of fiscal 2023.

Giti Tire truck racing: BTRC positions brand centre-stage with Top Gear

The British Truck Racing Championship put Giti Tire on centre-stage as a special feature on the premier British motoring show Top Gear became one of the company’s 2022 highlights. The manufacturer is the Official Partner and Exclusive Tyre Supplier to the BTRC, while Team Oliver, of which it is a sponsor, provided competitive success, finishing third overall. Giti’s involvement with the series went up a notch in 2022; all competition trucks were fitted with Giti Race-Tuned v1 global competition truck tyres in size 315/70R22.5 for the first time. Giti said that feedback from the teams had been “overwhelmingly positive”.

Firestone race tyre with guayule natural rubber debuts in 2022

The Firestone Firehawk guayule race tyre made its on-track debut in the United States in 2022. The tyre’s latest outing took place at the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix on the streets of Nashville in August, in another milestone in the efforts of Firestone and the NTT Indycar Series to promote sustainability. This new, eco-friendly tyre first debuted in May during the Ruoff Mortgage Pit Stop Challenge on Race Week of the 106th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge. It is partially composed of a new sustainable natural rubber derived from the guayule shrub, which requires less reharvesting than traditional sources of rubber.

Erik Willems wins Enduro European Championship on Dunlop Geomax EN91

Dunlop rider Erik Willems was crowned 2022 Enduro European Champion following the final meeting of the season in Rudersdorf, Germany. The Belgian rider raced a Husqvarna with standard Dunlop Geomax EN91 tyres, winning both the overall and E2 classes. The victory marks the continuation of a successful partnership between rider and tyre supplier. In 2021, Willems raced with Dunlop in the enduro Junior World Championship and moved up to win the European Championship in his debut season at the top of European enduro competition.

Hankook Tire Europe’s intensive expansion of its original equipment truck tyres business over the last half-decade hit significant headwinds at the end of 2021. As a result, the manufacturer made the decision to largely discontinue corresponding deliveries at the start of 2022. Speaking to Tyres & Accessories’ sister magazine in Germany, Neue Reifenzeitung (NRZ), representatives from Hankook’s European headquarters in Neu-Isenburg were clear that the company had not withdrawn from original equipment, but that there has been an interruption, which will be followed by a “restart” in the next two years. This raises the question of how this strategic decision will be received in a shrinking market, while many in the aftermarket are wondering why such a drastic move was necessary in the first place.

ATU chooses Avayler software for German mobile tyre service

Following earlier reports on 25 November 2022, Avayler, Halfords’ B2B software arm has confirmed that ATU has selected the Avayler mobile solution to support its new mobile servicing and tyre fitting division. Avayler Mobile will initially be rolled out in Munich as part of ATU’s “Mobile Workshop” pilot project, with further plans for expansion throughout Germany.

Nynas has received ISCC Plus certification for its bio-based products NYTRO BIO 300X and NYTEX BIO 6200. ISCC Plus is a voluntary, globally recognised sustainability certification scheme that allows companies to demonstrate the sustainability credentials of their bio-based, bio-circular and circular materials. The certification scheme provides traceability across the value chain.
