Auto Bild 2023 summer tyre test – the finalists

Price adjustments lift Michelin sales & income in 2022

In spite of lower sales volumes, a combination of “firm pricing discipline” and “fast-growing non-tyre sales” helped Michelin increase its overall sales to €28.6 billion in 2022. The company achieved segment operating income of €3.4 billion, while net income reached €2.0 billion for the year, up 8.9 per cent on 2021.

Vredestein expands Quatrac Pro all-season UHP tyre range

Apollo Tyres is adding 17 new 18-21” fitments to its Vredestein Quatrac Pro ultra-high-performance (UHP) all-season tyre range. The tyre is now available in 103 dimensions for 17-22” rims. The new sizes will be added to the range in the first half of 2023. The new sizes offer options tailored for front or rear axles for front, rear and all-wheel drive  applications. Apollo says the new sizes will ensure the Quatrac Pro remains suitable for a very diverse range of cars and SUVs. These include performance variants of the Mercedes G-Class, BMW 4 Series, Range Rover Velar, and Audi Q3.

New pyrolysis reactors in place at Pyrum’s main site

Pyrum Innovations has marked an “important milestone” in the expansion of its main plant by installing the two pyrolysis reactors needed to complement the site’s existing production line with a further two. It will soon begin testing the installed components by carrying out loop checks as the first step in the cold commissioning process.

Davanti expands all-season tyre range with Alltoura H/T 4-Seasons for SUVs

Davanti Tyres has added SUV fitments to its recently launched Alltoura all-season tyre range. Launching the Alltoura H/T 4-Seasons, Davanti said the new model has been engineered to provide balanced performance, stability, fuel efficiency and durability for SUVs on the road. The tyre was developed using an extensive testing programme at leading proving grounds, Applus+ IDIADA in Spain and Test World in Finland, in summer and winter conditions. It is available in a range of 16-19” SUV fitments.

Goodyear honours UK partner with TruckForce Award

Birmingham Motor Tyres Ltd (BMTR) is one of four Goodyear TruckForce partners to be awarded for the final quarter of 2022. It joins partners from Germany, Italy and Serbia who have “gone the extra mile” for customers and “demonstrated exceptional customer service.”

Bridgestone a Toyota Prius OE supplier

When it goes on sale in Europe in spring, the plug-in hybrid version of the latest generation Toyota Prius will be available with Bridgestone Ecopia EP510 and Ecopia EP150 tyres as original equipment. These tyres will also be a factory fitment on the new Prius in Japan and Asia, while cars destined for North America may be fitted with the Ecopia EP422 Plus.

Yokohama Rubber expands winter tyre test capabilities

A new facility for testing Yokohama winter tyres entered operation on 5 January. Yokohama Rubber opened the indoor ice circle facility at its Tire Test Center of Hokkaido to evaluate the turning performance of car, bus and truck winter tyres on icy surfaces, a characteristic it considers, after braking performance, the “second most important tyre performance on icy roads.”

European car tyre imports rise despite apparent risks of offshoring production

The European passenger car and light truck tyre (PCLT) import market recovered substantially from its bout of Long Covid in the second half of 2022 as the benefits of local versus remote production took an unexpected hit. A perfect storm of significantly lower freight costs and high European energy costs nudged the dial on the relative competitiveness of imports and domestic PCLT tyre production in the second half of 2022. Looking at the European PCLT tyre market through the prism of imports, leading sector analyst Astutus Research shares with Tyres & Accessories its data demonstrating the effects of a rapidly changing market context. Heuver expands leadership team

As of today, Laura van den Heuvel and Kasper Olimulder take over day-to-day operations at tyre wholesaler Heuver. The Hardenberg, Netherlands-based business has appointed van den Heuvel its Director Sales and Olimulder Director Operations. Both report to Heuver Group CEO Bertus Heuver and CFO Elmer Wiemer.

ContiCasingAccount kicks off

Continental has designed a new service for European truck tyre dealers – the ContiCasingAccount. In short, the system enables dealers to deposit used casings into an account and receive a credit for them. According to the company, the new service has already been successfully tested by 28 dealers in Germany. The program will be now rolled out to all interested European tyre dealers. However, Tyres & Accessories understands that the service won’t operate in the UK where a different system is in place.
