Tanvic Tyres completes 3-day truck tyre training course delivered by Michelin

All of Tanvic Tyres’ 25 technicians have received National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) Category One Accreditation following the company’s bespoke three-day training programme, delivered by the Michelin Training and Information Centre (MTIC). The independent business said the course would boost its staff’s career development and improve the service levels it delivers to customers. The course was delivered at the Tanvic Tyres depot in Newark, near Nottingham.

SimpleTire loses 1 million customer records in data breach

At the end of May, Cybersecurity Researcher, Jeremiah Fowler, announced that he had discovered “a non-password protected database that contained over a million customer records.” They were SimpleTire customer order confirmations, which – according to Fowler – “exposed…the customer’s name, phone number, physical address and partial credit card number with expiration dates.”

Thierry Sarasyn visits 15 countries in 22 hours on Bridgestone Battlax T32 tyres

The Belgian motorcyclist Thierry Sarasyn set a new touring world record when he visited 15 countries in just 22 hours, surpassing his own milestone of 13 countries in a day. Sarasyn finished his route in the Netherlands at 19:59 on 23 May, just under 22 hours after starting in Poland. The rider achieved this feat on a pair of Bridgestone Battlax T32 tyres, the manufacturer’s next-generation sport touring motorcycle tyre. It is the third biking world record in three years in which the Battlax T32 has been used, all three achieved by different riders on different bikes, following different routes.

First Toyo Serbia tyres arrive in the UK

Five months after the opening its new tyre factory in the Municipality of Indjija, Toyo first Serbia-made tyres have arrived in the UK.  Aboard this historic shipment are the Proxes Comfort, the passenger and eco car-targeted offering from the Proxes range.

TireHub becomes Mickey Thompson tyre and wheel distributor

TireHub, the US national tyre distributor cofounded by The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (Goodyear) and Bridgestone Americas Inc. (Bridgestone), started selling Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels as an authorized national distributor on 1 May. The Mickey Thompson brand specialises in off-road orientated 4×4 products and came to Goodyear in the last couple of years as a result of the company’s acquisition of Cooper.

Hankook Tire signs Eco-SSBR MoU with Kumho Petrochemical

To aid its development of eco-friendly tyres, Hankook Tire & Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with petrochemical company Kumho Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (KKPC). Amongst other things, the MoU ensures Hankook Tire is first in line to receive KKPC’s Eco Solution-polymerised Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (Eco-SSBR) at “a fair price” once commercial its production commences in 2026.

Apollo Tyres commits to sustainable rubber sourcing

Apollo Tyres is now sourcing 100 per cent of its natural rubber supplies from companies who have committed to sustainability throughout the supply chain, aligning with the code of conduct set out by the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR). The new initiative, which came into full effect recently and forms part of Apollo Tyres’ Global Sustainability Strategy, applies to the supply of natural rubber to the company’s two European production facilities in the Netherlands and Hungary.

Michelin helps Olleco go green

A2 Tyres upgrades wheel alignment capabilities with AES UK

A Kent auto services and tyre supplier has upgraded its wheel alignment system to rectify axle and wheel misalignment with greater speed and accuracy. A2 Tyres, which operates four retail sites in the south-east, three for retail and vans and one for commercial vehicles, switched from a basic wheel alignment system to a Josam Cam-aligner upgrade kit after receiving a demo from Josam’s exclusive distributor, AES UK (Automotive Equipment Supplies). Accurate wheel alignment can reduce tyre wear, improving safety and saving fuel.

Apollo Tyres: Full-year net profit up 73%

Favourable fourth quarter and financial year 2022-23 financial results for Apollo Tyres, with revenue growth across all regions amounting to 12% in the fourth quarter and 17% for the full year. The Board of Directors thus recommend a dividend pay-out of Rs 4.00 per equity share and a special dividend of Rs 0.50 per equity share.

Tyres the number 1 reason for MOT failures

A recent analysis of over 38 million MOTs conducted in 2021 has found that almost one in five resulted in failure, with tyres the most common cause. Poor condition tyres or not meeting the legal requirement of at least 1.6mm of tread depth contributed to 1,101,839 MOT failures across the UK in a single year. Furthermore, the driver-side front tyre tread depth accounted for more than a quarter of these, the equivalent of 368,853 MOT failures, One Sure Insurance found.

Hankook debuts latest generation truck tyres

Thanks to the deployment of a “comprehensive technology package,” Hankook Tire states that its latest generation of drive, steer and all-position truck tyres deliver “considerably less rolling resistance” than their predecessors. These new tyres are the Hankook SmartLine AL50 and SmartLine DL50.
