Auto Bild tyre test: Double victory for Goodyear

Auto Bild has published the second-round results of its size 225/45 R18 summer 2023 tyre test, and thanks to cost factors contributing 20% to the final score, participating tyres gained an opportunity to demonstrate their price-performance ratio. This year’s winner is the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6, a tyre that not only impressed the publication’s test team in wet and dry conditions – its purchase price and mileage potential ensured a second victory as economy champion.

Triangle EffeXSport UHP tyre achieves labelling ‘milestone’ for manufacturer

Triangle Tyre’s new ultra-high performance tyre, the EffeXSport TH202 has achieved a milestone in the Chinese manufacturer’s development of greatly improved products targeting growth in the UK and wider European markets. The tyre has achieved the top A-grade rating for wet grip on the European tyre label on more than half of its size range. Triangle unveiled the new flagship product at The Tire Cologne 2022 in preparation for its European market introduction in 2023. It said that its latest advanced technologies had allowed Triangle to bridge the trade-off between performance and comfort, developing a tyre with “excellent results” in dry and wet braking, driving precision, stability at high speed, and wear resistance.

Auto Bild: Performance still has its price in sporty tyre sizes

For its summer 2023 test, Auto Bild Sportscars lined up a baker’s dozen of size 225/40 R18 tyres and fitted them to a Toyota GR Yaris, a car that highlighted “both the sporting qualities and the weak points” of each and every candidate after “just a few bends” of track. When the dust & water spray had settled, five tyres proudly wore Auto Bild Sportscars’ top ‘exemplary’ rating.

Prometeon expands Pirelli Serie 02 commercial tyre range with H02 Pro Trailer

Prometeon has expanded its Pirelli Serie 02 line of commercial vehicle tyres with the addition of a new trailer tyre designed for use on articulated trailers and suited to vehicles carrying particularly large loads and volumes over long haul routes. The Pirelli H02 Pro Trailer is available now in Europe and Turkey in sizes 435/50R19.5 and 445/45R19.5. The specialist commercial tyre manufacturer says the tyre offers a blend of excellent fuel economy and optimised operating costs, helping it to excel on long routes and motorway journeys. The tyre supersedes the previous ST:01 Neverending Super Single, offering all-round improvements, especially in rugged performance, safety, and load capacity.

Autogem urging technicians to put themselves Under Pressure in 2nd edition of TPMS expertise competition

Autogem is urging thousands of automotive technicians from across the UK to enter Autogem’s competition to find leading Tyre Pressure Monitoring System experts. Following the success of Autogem’s inaugural TPMS Expert contest last year, the company has changed up a gear with its Under Pressure ’23 event, featuring qualifying rounds between April 19 and 21 and a grand finale to be held on June 28, at a top secret location, to be announced in the coming weeks. Autotech Training and CAM Systems are official sponsors of the competition, with categories to include Large Tyre Retailer, Small Tyre Retailer and a Young TPMS Expert element for the first time. A range of premium prizes will be awarded to the winners awards up for grabs for a second year.

R&R refreshed after First Stop rejuvenation

A one-stop tyre shop in Basingstoke for truckers, farmers and motorists is the latest depot to become a member of the First Stop network. R & R Tyres, situated on Armstrong Road, will benefit from a wide range of support, including a £5,000 investment already made in new signage. The garage is one of the most popular in the town and one of very few in the country to fit tyres for HGVs, tractors, vans and passenger vehicles all under the same roof, while also offering a mobile call-out service around the area.

Titan International: Strong 2022 results, India concerns

Titan International, Inc. has reported record turnover and profitability during the 2022 financial year. While the US-based manufacturer of OTR tyres and wheels increased its net sales by 21.9% to US$2.2 billion, income from operations jumped by more than 141% to $205.8, almost doubling the return on sales to 9.5%.

Continental confirms global Smart #1 tyre supply

The new, full-electric Smart #1 is the first Smart model developed by the joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Chinese carmaker Geely. Launch photos released by Smart Europe last year let the Continental cat out of the tyre supply bag, and Continental has now confirmed worldwide supply for the SUV in 18” & 19” tyre sizes.

Japanese tyremakers lead the way in share price performance

Full-year 2022 financial results show that – in terms of share price performance, at least – Japanese tyre manufacturers are leading the way on the global stage. Much has happened in the last five years, but five-year share price data is clear that the costs of chip shortages, shipping, dearer raw materials, pandemic and war have hit European and Western tyre brands harder than their Japanese counterparts. We compared the share performance of five of the largest European and Western tyre brands (namely: Michelin, Goodyear, Continental, Pirelli and Nokian) during the last five years with the leading Japanese-based tyre manufacturers (Bridgestone, Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Yokohama and Toyo Tires) in order to gain an insight into their relative performance.

Mixed feelings about Russia? – Titan International sends letter to Biden

In its most recent quarterly report, US-based off-highway tyre manufacturer Titan International, Inc. reports owning 64.3% of Russian tyre maker Voltyre-Prom, with the Russian Direct Investment Fund the remaining shareholder. Yet this connection with Russia hasn’t stopped Titan raising its voice against indirect imports of Russian petroleum products into the USA. Together with the United Steelworkers union, Titan has even sent a letter to Joe Biden.

Vredestein Ultrac OE on BMW X1

BMW Group has chosen Vredestein Ultrac for its all-new BMW X1 and will fit this tyre to the sports utility vehicle in size 205/65 R17 100Y XL. Apollo Tyres will ship the original equipment tyre, marked with BMW’s star symbol on the sidewall, from its plant in Gyöngyöshalász, Hungary directly to BMW’s production facility in Regensburg, Germany.
