Yokohama aims to win 24h Nürburgring after Scherer Sport PHX partnership

Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. has signed a partnership agreement with racing team Scherer Sport PHX of Germany in a bid to win the ADAC Ravenol 24h Nürburgring (the Nürburgring 24-hour Race) in 2025.

Point S expands in Taiwan

Point S has expanded its presence in East Asia by launching a franchised network in Taiwan. More specifically, the network has partnered with automotive repair and maintenance specialist, Car Quality, in an agreement that includes the integration of the Point S brand in Car Quality’s 30 existing points of sale.

ETRMA members boost tyre volumes in Q3 2024, but imports the winner since 2019

The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) has published its members’ replacement tyre sales figures for the third quarter and first nine months of 2024, comparing these results with statistics for tyre imports during the period. Adam McCarthy, the association’s Secretary General, notes that while member sales volumes for Consumer segment tyres are improving, mainly driven by rising demand for all-season tyres, volumes are still negative in the Truck segment. Significantly, both are still far from their pre-pandemic volumes.

1 in 4 tyre replacements are caused by severe road damage – HiQ

Research conducted by HiQ Tyres & Autocare suggests more than one in four tyre replacements in the UK are caused by the country's deteriorating road conditions. Specifically, 28 per cent of tyre replacements in the UK are caused by damage from potholes and poor road conditions. The month-long study surveyed a nationwide selection of HiQ Tyres & Autocare stores to record the total number of tyres replaced due to damage.

Government launches ‘Fake Always Breaks’ awareness campaign

The government’s Intellectual Property Office has launched a new national awareness campaign to warn consumers of the dangers of buying fake vehicle parts. The campaign warns motorists against buying fake parts for their vehicles, as a new survey reveals that one in six respondents (15 per cent) said they have purchased a counterfeit part in the past 12 months alone.

96 years old and still going strong, thanks to BFGoodrich

Cumnock-based haulier T. French & Son has added a very special vehicle to its fleet in the shape of a steam-powered Foden named Merlin. The business traces its roots back to 1967, initially supporting Scottish farmers before moving into coal haulage, and the Foden, which is shod on 40x8 16-ply BFGoodrich Silvertown Vintage Tyres, pays homage to this and general British engineering excellence.

Linglong increases profit in first three quarters

Linglong reports net profit attributable to shareholders in the first three quarters was between 1.65 billion yuan (about £179 million; €215 million) and 1.75 billion yuan (about £190 million; €228 million). At the same time, the tyre manufacturer said it actively upgraded its products in 2024 and continued to make structural adjustments in the domestic and foreign retail and OE markets. In addition, the company’s second overseas base (its Serbia factory) has gradually released production capacity to support production and sales growth in overseas markets.
