ETRMA: Economic worries deflate tyre sales deflate in Q2 2023

Tyre sales in the European replacement market remained low in Q2 2023. The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) reports negative evolution in all segments, with inflation driving costs increases that, combined with global economic insecurity, are stifling demand.

G&S Tyres joins Marangoni Ringtread Network

Escort Vehicle Group says Michelin Agilis 3 tyres offer impressive longevity, efficiency

The managing director of Escort Vehicle Group, Stuart Townley says the Michelin Agilis 3 tyres fitted on the company’s eight-strong fleet of LCVs are achieving “treble the life” of rival tyres. The Cheshire firm, which partners a portfolio of companies transporting abnormal loads, fits the tyres on its four Peugeot Expert and four Citroën Dispatch vans. They serve as outriders for the transport of abnormal loads across the UK, which can include anything from jet engines and bulldozers to steel girders for bridge construction work. In addition to its Cheshire base, the company operates depots in Sussex and Dumfries and Galloway. It decided to fit its entire fleet with the tyres when the business launched last year, in a bid to cut costs and reduce downtime.

Febvre claims Lombok victory on Dunlop Geomax motocross tyres

Romain Febvre claimed his second consecutive victory in MXGP, winning the inaugural FIM Motocross World Championship round in Lombok, Indonesia. It was the second time in two weeks that the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team rider visited the top of the podium. Febvre used Geomax MX34 front and MX14 rear tyres to manoeuvre through the mix of sand and dirt terrain in the high heat and humidity.

A Guinness World Record with Sany & Sailun

Sailun tyres produced using EcoPoint³ technology have played a role in securing Sany Truck’s place in the Guinness World Records. A Sany Mota 1165 heavy-duty electric truck fitted with Sailun SFL1 tyres in size 12R22.5 18PR broke the record for the longest distance travelled by an electric semi-trailer truck on a single charge.

Pirelli to become exclusive tyre supplier to Moto2, Moto3

Pirelli has signed up to supply tyres exclusively to the Moto2 and Moto3 classes in 2024-26, replacing long-term supplier Dunlop. Pirelli calls the series “the strongest feeder classes in global motorsport.” The new three-year agreement is being finalised, with Pirelli set to become an integral part of the lightweight and intermediate classes of Grand Prix racing, adding to its portfolio of apex motorsport series supply deals. It will also supply various feeder series, known collectively as The Road to MotoGP. In global two-wheel racing, Pirelli is long-term exclusive tyre supplier to all classes of the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship. Pirelli will supply its Diablo Superbike slick tyres to both classes, following its strategy of closely aligning its racing and consumer products.

Michelin Shenyang plant increases production of silent tyres

Michelin’s Shenyang factory recently stated that it would change the post-processing project. Tyrepress China found that after adjusting the product structure, the tyre manufacturing base significantly increased the production of silent tyres and reduced the production of self-sealing tyres.

Bandag endorsed by Australian circular economy program

Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) has recognised Bandag as a Circular Economy Collaborator, acknowledging the retreader’s contribution to keeping tyre-derived products and materials circulating in the economy for as long as possible, thereby reducing reliance on raw materials. Announcing Bandag’s induction into the April 2022-launched program, TSA shares that the Bandag process contributes to the association’s vision for a national end-of-life tyre circular economy.

Michelin top, Sailun the fastest riser: All change in the second half of the global tyremaker top 20

There are many changes in our latest leading tyre manufacturers ranking. The 2023 table, which lists the world’s leading tyre companies according to their full-year 2022 financial results, particularly highlights the shifts that have taken place this year in the second half of the top 20. Meanwhile, the top nine tyremakers appear to be an increasingly stable group. Between places nine and 10, there is still a gap of some 1 billion euros, something that is clearly hard to overcome for newcomers. However, as insurmountable as it appears, the gap is obviously narrowing.

Michelin tyres for latest BMW M2

Factory fitment of Michelin tyres on the BMW M2 continues with the latest incarnation of the sporty C-Segment coupe. The second-generation G82 model wears Pilot Sport 4 S tyres in size 275/35 ZR19 at the front and 285/30 ZR20 on the rear wheels. Track tyres are also available as an option in conjunction with the M Race Track Package, and BMW equips cars ordered in this configuration with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres in the same sizes.

Toyo hosts event to mark Serbian plant’s first tyres shipped to Europe

Toyo’s European operation held an opening event at its Serbian factory on 5 June. The company was celebrating the start of deliveries to Europe of tyres manufactured at the plant; it had already been producing tyres for the North American market in Serbia as the plant went through the process of obtaining the correct certifications for Europe. With these procedures completed, the plant is now producing two patterns for Europe: the best-selling Proxes Comfort and the increasingly popular all-season tyre, Celsius AS2. These two products alone represent around 30 per cent of all of its tyres sold in Europe.

Sentury supplied tyres to Nokian in the first quarter

On 13 June, Qingdao-based tyre manufacturer Sentury announced that it had supplied products to Nokian Tyres in the first quarter of 2023. Writing in a stock exchange filing, Sentury representatives specified that the company has delivered Nokian-branded winter tyres. Sentury said that “the supply will continue in the second quarter” and the current cooperation with Nokian is “good”.
