Pirelli partners Georgia, USA based net-zero highway testbed developer The Ray

Pirelli North America has partnered Atlanta, Georgia based The Ray, a non-profit which has helped to develop a net-zero highway testbed. The 18-mile stretch of Interstate 85 in West Georgia is located near Pirelli’s US production facility in Rome, Georgia. Pirelli states the partnership “aims to advance research and solutions in areas such as technology for road safety, circular economy, EV charging infrastructure, renewable energy, and environmental and social impacts of tyres and roads.” Pirelli has joined The Ray’s advisory board and will contribute to its strategic thinking around roadways of the future. Projects include future rubber-modified asphalt projects and the use of tyre-derived aggregate for stormwater galleries. Pirelli is also joining “a multi-tiered partnership focused on tyres and the circular economy.” This intends to drive forward education, innovation, solutions development and sharing best practice.

Elfyn Evans wins Rally Finland as FIA, Pirelli devise plan for more challenging tyre management

The FIA, World Rally Championship promoter and Pirelli are discussing the opportunity to make more diverse and challenging race strategies by enforcing the use of option tyres in future rallies. The tyre supplier revealed the plan following a Rally Finland won by British driver Elfyn Evans after a dramatic Friday in which many pre-rally favourites were eliminated. Pirelli said its Scorpion soft tyres performed reliably well, with all drivers (except Teemu Suninen on Sunday morning) using identical strategies to capitalise on its strength versus the option tyre.

High inventories in Q2 2023 drive down Titan International’s volumes

The decline in net sales and income that Titan International, Inc. experienced in the first quarter of the year has continued in the second, with all operating segments reporting year-on-year decreases. Company president and chief executive officer Paul Reitz is nonetheless “very pleased” with these Q2 2023 results.

OE-only Europe launch for Pirelli Scorpion MS

Pirelli has introduced a new high-performance all-season tyre for the latest SUV models, but European motorists will get to know Pirelli Scorpion MS solely as an original equipment fitment. The first OEM customer in the region is Maserati, who will equip its all-electric SUV Grecale Folgore with Scorpion MS tyres as either a size 255/50 R19 all around fitment or 25545 R20 at the front and 295/40 R20 at the rear.

Goodyear share price down 20% after Q2 results

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s fell share price fell 20 per cent when markets opened on 3 August 2023. The sharp fall to around $12.30 represents the lowest point since investor Elliott called for largescale strategic and board composition changes on 11 May 2023. At the time of going to press, Goodyear’s share price was showing signs of recovery and trading at around $13.15.

NTDA reveals Tyre Industry Awards 2023 finalists

The National Tyre Distributors Association has announced the finalists in the Tyre Industry Awards 2023. The association revealed that it has received a record number of entries for this edition of the UK tyre industry’s premier awards, which will be presented at the NTDA’s 94th Annual Dinner, sponsored by Maritime Cargo Services, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Milton Keynes on Thursday 19 October. The awards ceremony, sponsored by Sailun Tyres, will be hosted by television personality Jon Culshaw, with a capacity audience of 640 guests in attendance.
