Sea-change in the UK tyre retail sector: Kwik Fit and Halfords remain top, but competition heats ups with Point S in 3rd

The 2025 Tyres & Accessories tyre retail ranking features some significant changes – indeed some of the biggest changes in the make-up of the table since we began this research 13 years ago. ETEL and Halfords Autocentres, retain first and second places respectively albeit with both networks contracting slightly. Those changes are proportionally small adjustments to their respective positions that reflect market saturation and/or strategic geographic decision, but are no threat to their leading positions.

Continental’s Sarreguemines, France tyre plant gains ISCC PLUS

The Continental tyre factory in Sarreguemines, France, recently received the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS sustainability certification. This globally recognized standard certifies that Continental meets specific documentation requirements relating to the use of renewable and recycled raw materials. Certification of the raw materials enables Continental to ensure the end-to-end traceability of materials from renewable and recycled sources. And that is said to be a further step on the way to Continental’s goal of more than 40 per cent renewable and recycled materials in its tyre products by 2030.

Jiangsu General’s overseas market revenue accounts for more than 80%

Jiangsu General’s revenue and net profit in 2024 were 6.96 billion yuan (about £720 million; €850 million) and 370 million yuan (about £38 million; €45 million) respectively, both of which showed a significant increase year-on-year. The tyre manufacturer attributed the substantial increase in net profit to the macro-level “increase in production and sales in the automotive industry and upward demand in the overseas tyre market” and the micro-level Jiangsu General’s “global marketing network layout, optimisation of production capacity structure, and continuous promotion of lean production”.

How supercar rentals in Dubai are shaping performance tyre innovation

When it comes to ultra-high-performance tyres, Dubai no longer seen exclusively as a sales market. Today, the region presents a real-world stress environment. Operators that rent a car in UAE install and replace Z-rated tyres frequently, exposing them to high temperatures, urban traffic, and visitor-style driving. While not all companies share telematics openly, some rental fleets now collect usage data that feeds back into operational decisions. What happens on Dubai’s roads often reflects the extreme edge of everyday use.
