Bridgestone Club offers professional farmers online platform

Bridgestone has launched a new online companion designed to help farmers. The Bridgestone Club offers monthly offers, advice, news, discounts, giveaways, and opportunities to engage with other professionals. Bridgestone says the platform has been designed to facilitate more interaction, including opportunities to upload photos and comment on farming life along with other users around the UK. Bridgestone’s VT sales manager for North Europe, Stephen Lamb is excited to roll out Bridgestone Club.

Jiangsu General increases Cambodian factory capacty, terminates China plant plans

Jiangsu General has terminated its plan to build a tyre factory in Baotou, China, on the grounds that “[China’s] domestic all-steel tyre market is still in a weak recovery stage and cannot meet the expected development”. At the same time, the tyre manufacturer is preparing to invest 1.495 billion yuan (approximately £165 million; €191 million) in the expansion of its Cambodian factory. The construction period of the expansion project is 18 months. After its completion, the annual output of the Cambodian factory can increase to 3.5 million semi-steel radial tyres (PCR) and 750,000 all-steel radial tyres (TBR).

NABL certifies HASETRI as ‘world’s first’ rolling resistance proficiency testing provider

Hari Shankar Singhania Elastomer and Tyre Research Institute (HASETRI) has become the world’s first accredited Proficiency Testing Provider (PTP) for Rolling Resistance Tests by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). The unique certification has been awarded according to ISO 17043:2010 standards for C1 (passenger car tyres), C2 (light truck tyres), and C3 (heavy truck tyres) tests.

Kwik Fit confirms Wellings as head of mobile tyre business

Kwik Fit has announced the appointment of Mark Wellings as divisional director - mobile.  Wellings rejoined Kwik Fit in August 2023, 26 years after his first role with the company.  He began his career with Kwik Fit in 1997 as a mobile tyre fitting technician before moving into supervisory and managerial roles within the mobile division, so in some ways his appointment as head of Kwik Fit’s mobile operations see Wellings come full-circle back to his roots.

JK Tyre raises 5 billion rupees

JK Tyre & Industries Limited has successfully concluded a 5-billion-rupee (£47.474 million; 55 million euros; US$60.125 million) Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP). The QIP was priced at 345 rupees per share (including a premium of 343 per share with face value of 2 rupees per share). According JK Tyre, the QIP received an “overwhelming response” from “marquee investors including Indian mutual funds, insurance companies and foreign institutional investors”.

Glyn Cainey, Dexel Tyre’s first truck division director, dies

Glyn Cainey, a UK industry veteran who had a career spanning nearly half a century with South Yorkshire’s Dexel Tyre, passed away at home last Friday morning in his chair next to his wife, as had been his wish. He had been unwell for the past few years since his retirement on 4 November 2020. Having joined Dexel as a car tyre fitter, he helped the company grow its commercial tyre operations, eventually leading the division. Glyn is survived by his wife, son, daughter, and grandchildren. A loving father and husband, Dexel told Tyres & Accessories that he will be sorely missed.

Kirkby returning to LAMMA with 5 agricultural brands

The LAMMA show returns to the NEC on 17 and 18 January, and once again Kirkby Tyres will be there. Maxxis exclusive tyre supplier for FIA karting championships

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has appointed Maxxis exclusive tyre supplier for the FIA Karting European and World Championships in the OK and OKJ categories, as well as for the OK-N World Cup and Academy Trophy in 2024-2026. Maxxis will supply its CIK-FIA homologated ‘Option’ and ‘Prime’ slicks for dry- and CIK-FIA homologated ‘MW’ tyre for wet conditions.

5 Series & E-Class – tyre twins?

Vehicle manufacturers typically demand customised tyres for their cars. To denote this exclusive tailoring, tyres that are approved or factory fitted as original equipment display a special marking on the sidewall. The best-known of these OE tyre designations include those for Porsche (N0, N1, ...), BMW (*) and Mercedes (MO), although other brands, from Alfa Romeo to Volvo, also have their own individual sidewall marking. We recently became aware of something new that flies – at least in part – in the face of this concept of original equipment tyres specially tailored to a specific vehicle model.

Backing the right sustainability horse

In recent years market observers have worn out the word unprecedented, but 2023 was another year of significant developments. From the ongoing impact of the Russia-Ukraine war and the continuing challenges of pandemic-related disruption to the transformation and rationalisation of European manufacturing that has followed in its wake, several stories have run and run because of their multi-faceted repercussions for the whole tyre business. In short, for some it was a good year. Spectacular growth in UK van mileage

A review of the van sector has revealed incredible growth. Over the past decade, the UK has experienced a staggering 35 per cent increase in van traffic, resulting in a record-breaking 57.5 billion vehicle miles travelled by vans in 2022. For context, that’s like circling the globe an astounding 2.3 million times, or once every 15 seconds. Research conducted by Go.Compare Van Insurance shows that the average van owner travels 12,500 miles over the year, emphasising van drivers' significant role in the country’s transportation network. The study raises questions about the impact this record-breaking mileage has on the condition of the average van.
