ETRMA joins call for EUDR clarity & solutions

GT Radial sponsors Northampton Saints rugby union team

GT Radial is now the Official Tyre Partner, shorts sponsor and a ground advertiser with leading English Gallagher Premiership rugby union team Northampton Saints. As a result of the sponsorship, the GT Radial logo will be placed on the back right of the players’ shorts on both the home and away kits. The brand will also take a large advertising space in the Barwell Stand next to the electronic scoreboard, which can be seen from all sides of the 15,200 capacity stadium. The scoreboard will also display GT Radial advertising and brand recognition campaigns. GT Radial will also receive matchday tickets or hospitality at every home league game, and once-a-season use of the ultra-immersive Tunnel Club, a glass-walled restaurant situated between the home and away changing rooms with premium access matchday seats right next to the home dugout.

Below, we look at the big numbers from the March 2024 magazine. 1.2 million tonnes - The approximate tonnage of waste tyres imported annually by India, extrapolated from Indian Automotive Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (ATMA) figures covering the eight-month period April-November 2023, for which the UK is a primary source. Around 90 per cent of this total undergoes batch-pyrolysis, a method the UK’s Tyre Recovery Association considers “outdated” and “highly polluting”

Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) has developed its Sensing Core smart tyre technology to include a wheel security function which is set to reach production vehicles this year. Sensing Core is a flexible, sensor-less analysis and monitoring system with many different applications, including tyre pressure and wear, uneven loads and hazardous road conditions.

5 new ContiRoad sizes

Continental has broadened the ContiRoad sport touring tyre range with sizes bikes between 125cc and 300cc, and will introduce five new dimensions by the end of Q2 2024. The newcomers are 17-inch front tyres in sizes 100/80 and 110/70, and as 17-inch rear tyres in three sizes: 130/70 and 140 /70 and 150/60.

Webfleet offering assistance with CSRD compliance

Although the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) does not directly affect UK firms, stock-listed companies with EU subsidiaries and more than 500 employees must record CO2 emissions from this year for 2025 reporting. The CSRD will trawl its net further each year until, by 2027, the requirement to record CO2 data will apply to all UK companies with a non-EU parent and more than €135 million in EU turnover. Bridgestone Mobility Solutions says its Webfleet solution can help fleets impacted the CSRD.

From kitchen table to the world – Vimexa celebrates 10th birthday

It’s now little over a decade since Rutger Veerman told us of his plan to establish himself as a ‘matchmaker’ for tyre, wheel and battery companies. The idea was to serve as an intermediary between supply and demand, matching stocks in and outside Europe with customers seeking these products. Vimexa Automotive BV figuratively opened its doors for business in January 2014.

Continental dominates 2024 tyre tests

Who likes tyre tests? Continental does, and with good reason. Continental products have won seven of the nine European passenger vehicle tyre tests that we’ve encountered in recent weeks and achieved a none too shabby second place in the eighth. As for the ninth test, no Continental tyre took part, giving other brands a chance to get acquainted with the podium.

Bridgestone aiding Burgos plans with high-capacity logistics centre

Bridgestone EMEA has officially opened a new “smart logistics facility” for tyre storage at its Burgos site in Spain. The more than 44,500 square metre ‘Tizona’ facility enables the company to store more than 800,000 tyres in one location. Billed as one of Bridgestone’s “most significant logistics centres in Europe” and the result of an investment exceeding 40 million euros, Tizona represents for the tyre maker a “large boost to the growth and development of its facilities in Burgos.”

The Tire Cologne – larger in 2024, but missing some big names

Major industry trade fair The Tire Cologne is drawing near and will take place between 4 and 6 June. Following its debut in 2018 and first post-pandemic show in 2022, this third instalment promises to be a significant event for the tyre and wheel industry. Advance ticket sales for the three-day event have commenced and show organiser Koelnmesse has now published an exhibitor list online. Three of the world’s largest tyre makers don’t appear on it.
