Nexen Tire reports strong financial performance in Q2 2024

Nexen Tire has announced revenue of KRW 763.8 billion (£427.73 million) and operating profit of KRW 62.9 billion (£35.22 million) for the second quarter of 2024. This reflects a 10.5 per cent increase in revenue and a 69.5 per cent increase in operating profit compared to the same period last year.

The Tyre Collective partners with HIVED to reduce particle emissions

London-based cleantech start-up, The Tyre Collective, has announced a partnership with electric delivery company, HIVED, to advance research in capturing and reducing particle emissions from tyres. Starting in August, The Tyre Collective’s fourth-generation prototype device (TC04) will be installed on five of HIVED’s all-electric delivery vans in London.

Layoffs & transfers – Goodyear making changes at HQ site

In a move related to its November 2023-unveiled Goodyear Forward transformation plan, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company intends to relocate 175 positions from its global headquarters in Akron, USA to Costa Rica. Doug Grassian, promoted earlier this month to become the tyre maker’s vice president of global communications, explained that the positions moving to Costa Rica support corporate functions and Goodyear’s business segment covering North and South America.

Crugnola wins Rally Roma Capitale in Pirelli-shod Citroen C3

Andrea Crugnola won in a Citroen C3 running on Pirelli rally tyres for the second year running at the Rally di Roma Capitale, a round of the Fia European Rally Championship and the Italian Asphalt Championship. As well as Crugnola, who drove a strategically sound rally, there was another Pirelli runner on the podium, Simone Campedelli, who finished second in a Skoda Fabia thus ensuring the Italian Championship battle is still wide open.

Trelleborg Tires lifts USA agri production capacity by 20%

North America’s agricultural tyre market was valued at over US$930 million last year but is projected to reach $1.3 billion by 2030, Trelleborg Tires tells us. The tyre maker has maintained a production presence in this, the world’s largest agricultural market, since 2015. It has now announced a significant capacity increase at the 40,000 square metre Spartanburg, South Carolina plant.

Aeolus Tyre names new Chairman, CFO

Wang Feng has stepped down as Chairman of Aeolus Tyre Co. Ltd. On 19 July, the Sinochem Holdings subsidiary announced Wang's resignation from this post, adding that, going forwards, he will not hold any position within the company. The Aeolus Tyre Board of Directors has elected Wang Jianjun to succeed Wang Feng as head of the tyre maker.

Michelin reports lower sales, net income in H1 2024

For the first half of 2024, Michelin reports total sales of €13,481 million, 3.1 per cent lower year-on-year than the €14,079 million achieved in the same period of 2023. Despite lower sales, segment operating income increased from €1,704 million and 12.1 per cent of sales in H1 2023 to €1,782 million and 13.2 per cent of sales, driven by mix improvements and reduced operating costs.
