Orion S.A. opens second carbon black plant in China

Orion S.A. has celebrated the completion of its first greenfield project – a carbon black plant in eastern China that will supply fast-growing demand in Asia. The facility in the city of Huaibei in Anhui province will produce carbon black for a variety of applications, including rubber, polymers and fibres. The site’s two production lines have a total capacity of 70 kilotons per year.

Hankook all-season, winter tyres gain top tyre test results in 2023 season

Hankook has achieved several top results in the latest round of independent tyre tests of winter and all-season tyres. Hankook’s Winter i*cept and Kinergy 4S tyre lines gained several podium finishes in tests by such leading independent testers as ADAC, Auto Bild and Auto Express, scoring particularly highly in the dry and wet as well as in snow.

Nankang provides off-take tyres to Federal, appoints new leadership

On 1 November, Federal Corporation announced that chairman and general manager Chen Heng Kuan resigned. Recently, the tyre manufacturer’s board of directors appointed new leaders. Starting 9 November, Kuo Lin-Liang, chairman of Nankang Tire, will become chairman of Federal. Chung Cheng-Yen, an executive assistant to the chairman of the Federal, assumes the general manager position.

Nokian Tyres developing tyres for Polestar 0 project

The Polestar 0 project aims to create a climate-neutral car by 2030, eliminating all sources of CO2 emissions throughout the vehicle’s supply chain, manufacturing processes and end of life without offsetting them. Nokian Tyres has joined the project and is developing climate-neutral tyres for the car.

Formula 1: Pirelli says Las Vegas offers ‘major technical challenge’ for teams, tyres

Formula 1 returns to the USA for the third time in Las Vegas, the series’ first visit to the city since 1982. Tyre supplier Pirelli described the return as a “major technical challenge” – often the case when taking on a new track. The Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend in Nevada will use C3 as P Zero White hard, C4 as P Zero Yellow medium and C5 as P Zero Red soft, the softest selection of tyres in the manufacturer’s F1 range. Mario Isola, Pirelli head of motorsport, said “all the elements are in place for an extraordinary race,” previewing the weekend ahead.

Yokohama Advan tyres propel JLOC Lamborghini to GT300 victory in Japanese touring car series

Yokohama’s Advan tyres helped the JLOC Lamborghini GT3, driven by Takashi Kogure and Yuya Motojima, win the GT300 class in the final race, Round 8 of the 2023 Autobacs Super GT Series, held at Mobility Resort Motegi in Tochigi Prefecture on 4 and 5 November, 2023. In Japan’s premier touring car racing series., many teams in the GT300 class equipped their cars with Advan racing tyres this year. These cars won four out of eight races.

Michelin introduces three all new motorcycle tyres at EICMA

Michelin says it will introduce a full new range of motorcycle tyres in 2024, available for riders from January. The first three new products will be unveiled at the EICMA trade show, Milan, Italy from 7 to 12 November. Over the past years, the Michelin Power and Michelin Anakee ranges have been homologated by premium manufacturers such as BMW Motorrad, Triumph, KTM and Honda along with many others.

Bridgestone postcards demonstrate tyre checks as it helps hundreds ‘Become a Road Safety Hero’

Bridgestone spread the tyre safety message to hundreds of motorists across October with free tyre safety checks and postcards at two events during Tyre Safety Month. Bridgestone said it communicated the messages to hundreds of motorists at Roadchef’s Norton Canes Services on the M6 Toll in Staffordshire on 19 October, carrying out free safety checks throughout the day. The company repeated these activities at Ireland’s Japfest in Mondello Park, where it encouraged young drivers to get into the habit of checking their tyres regularly.

Trio of OE tyres for facelifted Renault Clio

The Renault Clio is France’s best-selling car and a vehicle that has sold over 1.1 million units in the UK during the last 33 years. Renault has facelifted the fifth-generation Clio to give it a “bold, fresh style and added sportiness.” The UK-spec range includes three trim levels, Evolution, Techno and Esprit Alpine. These are distinguishable by their wheels, for which a total of three tyre brands and two dimensions are original equipment.
