Isenhouer Brothers Racing joins Team Yokohama roster on Geolandar tyres at King of the Hammers

Yokohama Tire has added Isenhouer Brothers Racing to its line-up for the annual King of the Hammers race. They will join veteran Team Yokohama members, including Wayne and Kristen Matlock, Levi Shirley, Apdaly Lopez, and Jonathan and Jordan Brenthel, competing on Yokohama Geolandar off-road tyres. The Isenhouer Brothers will compete in the Spec TT class, while Shirley heads up the 4400 class. Both will be on purpose-built Geolandar MT-R 40X13.50R18 tyres. “We are pumped to put these new 40-inch Geolandars to the test, not only on the racetrack but also get out there in the rocks and to do some 4x4 adventuring this year,” Isenhouer said.

Ikon Tyres sees export potential in Asia, Latin America

Prior to 2022, a factory in Vsevolozhsk, Russia produced around 80 per cent of Nokian Tyres’ passenger vehicle tyres, and many of these were sold throughout Europe. Times have changed and so has ownership of the Vsevolozhsk plant. New parent company Tatneft operates the business as Ikon Tyres and is seeking new markets to replace the sanctions-barred EU. According to automotive website Kolesa.ru, Ikon Tyres may have its sights on customers further afield.

Pyrum establishes subsidiary for second pyrolysis plant

At the start of January, Pyrum Innovations established a wholly owned subsidiary to operate its second pyrolysis tyre recycling plant. This ‘Pyrum GreenFactory II GmbH’ facility is located in Perl-Besch on the Moselle, in Germany’s Saarland region, and will enter service by the end of 2025. Pyrum has modelled the plant on its main site in nearby Dillingen/Saar, and when operational it will double the company’s recycling capacity to 40,000 tonnes of used tyres per annum. Pyrum says it already starting to order certain plant components – those with “notoriously long delivery times” – in the first quarter of 2024.

2 tyres in 1 – Metzeler launches Roadtec 02

A successor to the Metzeler Roadtec 01 has arrived, and Metzeler says this tyre “introduces a new technology that allows you to benefit from the behaviour of two different tyres in a single tyre.” The new Metzeler Roadtec 02 also features a larger footprint than its predecessor and generates less road noise.

Toyo Tires participates in Africa Eco Race

Toyo Tires is working with its distribution partner in Hungary, AKH to support László Bunkoczi who is participating in the 15th edition of the Africa Eco Race. Bunkoczi lined up in the Rally Raid category in Monaco on 30 December. After crossing to Morocco the following day, the Africa Eco race runs over 6000km through Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal before reaching its conclusion in the historic city of Dakar on 14 January.

Formula E: Hankook predicts faster lap times in second season

Hankook enters its second season supporting Formula E, and the tenth of the all-electric single-seater series, with the season opener at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City on 12-13 January. The grid of 22 drivers will all compete using the Hankook iON Race tyre. Manfred Sandbichler, Hankook director motorsport, promised the tyre supplier was prepared for faster lap times as teams push the iON Race harder in its second season.

Pirelli supplies bespoke P Zero, Scorpion tyres to Porsche Cayenne facelift

Pirelli has supplied tyres to every generation of the Porsche Cayenne since it was introduced in 2002, a partnership that is continuing with the latest facelift model. Pirelli is supplying the P Zero ultra-high performance summer tyre, the sports performance P Zero Corsa, and the Scorpion Winter 2 cold weather tyre in special bespoke versions. Pirelli will also offer the Scorpion Zero All Season in some markets. The tyres cover every size option on the new model, which features rim sizes between 20 and 22 inches.

Ikon Tyres to complete Nokian rebranding by Spring 2024

Russian motorists can still purchase Nokian tyres, but the brand’s days are numbered in this market. After energy company Tatneft acquired Nokian Tyres’ local assets, it renamed the operation Ikon Tyres and began producing tyres under the Ikon name in June 2023. Ikon Tyres says the process of updating tyre sidewall moulds has taken several months, but it started the volume production of rebranded summer tyres in December. This means that all products that dealers sell from Spring 2024 will carry the Ikon name instead of Nokian.

Eight laps around the world with Pirelli’s F1 tyres

In total, Pirelli’s Formula 1 tyres drove nearly eight times around Earth’s circumference throughout the 22 Grands Prix that made up the 2023 season. Specifically, 191,336.2 miles (307,925.8 kilometres) were travelled over 60,473 laps by the 6,847 sets of tyres that were driven for at least one lap by drivers from the 10 teams that made up this year’s Formula 1 World Championship.

Continental debuts retrofit TPMS solution for CV tyres

Continental is now offering an “entry-level solution” for fleets wishing to adopt digital tyre management. This solution centres around a new valve cap sensor that obtains data about tyre condition in a “very timesaving, simple, and manufacturer-independent manner.” The sensor simply screws onto a tyre valve and is compatible with commercial vehicle tyres from all major brands. It measures tyre pressure in real time and connects with ContiConnect receiver units, including phone apps.

Nokian Tyres retains Dow Jones Sustainability Europe indexing

Nokian Tyres has retained its pace in the Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index of the most sustainable listed companies in Europe. The manufacturer’s sustainability plan includes four key sustainability goals: reducing CO2 emissions in line with the company’s four science-based targets, increasing the share of either recycled or renewable raw materials in tyres, securing safer and better work and improving the sustainability of the supply chain.

Nokian Tyres Intuitu smart tyres available in Spain

Nokian Tyres has extended the availability of its Intuitu smart tyres to the Spanish market, following their launch in Finland and France. The product is designed to bring digital transformation to farming, agricultural and municipal contracting tyres, making a fleet’s vital tyre data available on a smartphone. The plug-and-play product was released in 2020; Intuitu tyres have sensors mounted on the inner lining, which send pressure and temperature readings directly to the driver’s smartphone via a downloadable app.
