Toyo an OE Partner for Record Breaking Renault Model

The sportiest version of Renault’s Mégane yet manufactured, the Mégane Renaultsport R26.R, is to feature Toyo tyres as an OE option. The performance hatchback, which had its public debut at the British International Motor Show, will be made available from October in a limited edition restricted to just 450 vehicles, and each will be fitted with Toyo Proxes R88 tyres. The tyres are an option on the Mégane R26.R in conjunction with a roll cage for those who want to use the car on track, replacing the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres in size 225/40R18 otherwise supplied with the car. As the car is a lightweight circuit special with a notable performance to price ratio, the roll cage and track tyre combination is anticipated to be a popular option.

Michelin Claims Energy Tyres Saved Billions of Gallons

Michelin claims that more than 2.6 billion gallons of fuel have been saved and more than 27 million tons of CO2 emissions have been avoided because of its “green energy-saving tyres.” “The 600 million Michelin green tyres sold worldwide over the past 16 years have saved almost 12 gallons of fuel each second, corresponding to more than 240 pounds of CO2 kept out of the atmosphere,” the tyremaker said.

“With its green tyres, Michelin is actively helping to reduce the cost and environmental impact of road transportation, as tires can use up to one tank out of five for automobiles and up to one tank out of three in commercial trucks,” Michelin said. (Tire Review/Akron)

Saving Fuel & The Environment with Michelin Green Tyres

According to Michelin, more than 9.8 billion litres of fuel have been saved and more than 24 million tonnes of CO2 emissions have been avoided thanks to its green energy-saving tyres, marketed since 1992. The 600 million Michelin green tyres sold worldwide over the past 16 years are reported to have saved more than 45 litres of fuel each second, corresponding to more than 108 kilograms of CO2 kept out of the atmosphere.

Skyrocketing oil prices are impacting the entire global economy and reducing consumer purchasing power, observes the tyre major. With its green tyres, Michelin says it is actively helping to reduce the cost and environmental impact of road transportation, as tyres can use up to one tank out of five for passenger cars and up to one tank out of three in trucks. Michelin states its goal is to design tyres that help reduce fuel consumption while maintaining the same high performance in safety and tread life

Kumho Address the Question: Who in the UK Needs Winter Tyres?

Kumho Tyres has been an established supplier of winter tyres for the Scandinavian and Central European markets and therefore has a wide range of treads to cope with all the varieties of adverse weather conditions that characterise the season in these parts of the world. For these markets, the weather is the overbearing reason for the comparative strength of the cold weather tyre market; they are the traditional stronghold for companies marketing products capable of dealing with the icy climate.

However, the UK – with its expanding, though still essentially low-key winter market – represents something of a challenge, even to an experienced marketer of the product such as Kumho. The company addresses this issue by immediately posing the question: Who needs cold weather tyres in the UK?

Avon Tyres British GT Champions Crowned at Brands Hatch

Dodge Viper pilots, James Gornall and Jon Barnes, were crowned 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Champions at Brands Hatch (13th July). Pirelli to Continue Supplying Tyres for Superbike Championship

Following recent negotiations, FGSport, the planners behind the FIM Superbike World Championship, has signed an agreement with Pirelli to provide the tyres for the competition, as well as the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup and the UEM Supersport 600 European Championship, until 2012. Pirelli is the current supplier for all of these events, and the new contract will extend the run beyond the end of the season, where the current deal would have ended.

According to FGSport, the deal is reflective of the excellence shown by the Italian manufacturer over the past three years, in which no tyre has caused any incidents or recorded any breakages showing optimal reliability. Additionally, Pirelli’s ability to offer strong service and support made competitive bids difficult.

Man on Trial After Illegally-Stored Tyres Burn

A US man who supervised the illegal storage of 40,000 tyres has gone on trial following a fire that burned for over 24 hours and took millions of gallons of water to put out in May 2006. Rick Handley of Alabama is answering to the prosecution, which argues that the tyres were stored illegally for a company called US Tire Recovery.

The organisation bought used tyres in bulk, separating those that could be resold and stacking others in the warehouse facility. Handley had been ordered to stop this practice of stockpiling in November 2005, while he never applied for the proper permit required by the Solid Waste Management Act.

Youngster Saved by Tyres

An Ohio child’s fall from a third-floor window was broken by a small pile of tyres fortuitously placed beneath the bedroom window. According to eye-witnesses, the errant boy had been bouncing on his mother’s bed when he rebounded at a skewed angle, throwing himself kamikaze-like through the shattering window.

The youngster’s neighbour then saw the child plummet, somersaulting towards the ground until he miraculously landed sideways on the tyre stack, bouncing the boy forward. The Columbus resident was expected to make a full recovery, but it could have been a very different story had it not been for the rubber cushion that broke his fall.
