No recommendation for 5 tyres in Autozeitung all-season test

It’s not uncommon for motoring clubs or magazines to withhold their recommendation when testing tyres, but they typically reserve this cautionary result for low-priced candidates that struggle to compete against premium and mid-range rivals. But Autozeitung has declined to recommend no less than five tyres in its 2023 all-season test – more than half the entire field – including products from known names.

AutoBild Allrad recommends 4 ‘exemplary’ all-season SUV tyres

AutoBild Allrad’s 2023 test of 10 all-season SUV tyres gave four tyres the top “exemplary” grade, with two joint-winners. In Germany, all-season tyres have grown with the most recent product generations’ improved technology, despite the traditional strength of its seasonal tyre change market. The magazine, one of Germany’s leading consumer automotive publications, said the top-ranking tyres in its latest test have “matured into true heroes of road traffic.” At the other end of the scale, three of the size 235/65 R17 108 V/W tyres were described as “not recommended”, while three other tyres gained “satisfactory” and “good” final verdicts. So which all-season products could AutoBild Allrad “unreservedly recommend” to motorists?

Formula E car sets world record on Hankook tyres

Ahead of this weekend’s 2023 Hankook London E-Prix, British Formula E driver Jake Hughes set a new indoor land speed record in a modified Gen3 car. This ‘GenBeta’ prototype generates up to 400 KW and delivers it to the track via modified Hankook iON Race tyres. Hughes called upon this power to clock a new milestone of 135.9 mph on a 346-metre indoor straight.

Eco-Readymix fits Michelin X Works tyres to reduce

Fitting Michelin X Works tyres across its fleet has allowed concrete, mortar and screed supplier, Eco-Readymix, to record a reduction in tyre damage and downtime, it says. The company has fitted Michelin Remix X Works XDY 315/80 R22.5 on the drive axle and X Works HD Z 315/80 R22.5 on the steer axle of its vehicles as it transitions its entire 30-strong fleet to Michelin tyres.

Oak Tyres exceeds carbon positive goal with Ecologi

Independent tyre wholesaler Oak Tyres has exceeded its goal of offsetting 3,000 tonnes of carbon emissions in association with Ecologi. Within 12 months, Oak Tyres reports that it has offset 3,800 tonnes of carbon from its van fleet through 15 different carbon avoidance projects, as well as funding over 47,000 trees for forestation and reforestation plans worldwide.

Record 40 entries on Pirelli tyres at GT World Challenge Asia

Pirelli tyres will be fitted on a record 40 cars at the next round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS at Fuji in Japan this weekend. The event also represents the opening round of the Fanatec Japan Cup event. Pirelli is sole supplier to all the GT3-based championships organised by the SRO Group around the world. These events showcase racing equivalents of roadgoing supercars, making them particularly suited to Pirelli’s core business of supplying OE and replacement market tyres to performance vehicles for the road and track. The tyre manufacturer says it uses motorsport for the development of road tyre products in its P Zero and Cinturato ranges.

Stapleton’s becomes Great Britain distributor of Triangle car and van tyres

Triangle Tyre has signed an exclusive Great Britain distribution agreement with the island’s largest tyre wholesaler, Stapleton’s Tyre Services. The deal means Stapleton’s gets sole distribution rights for Triangle branded passenger car and van tyres within Great Britain, building on the strengthening relationship between the two companies. In recent years, Stapleton’s has become the largest distributor of Triangle products in Europe.

Fuzz Townshend becomes official brand ambassador for Landsail Tyres

Motoring journalist and television personality Fuzz Townshend has become the first ever face of Landsail Tyres. Townshend has vast experience as a mechanic and expertise in car restoration. In appointing him its brand ambassador, Landsail calls Townshend “a trusted and well-respected figure in the motoring industry.” Landsail tyres, manufactured by Sentury Tire, are popular in the UK. The brand estimates that one in every 25 tyres on UK roads is a Landsail product. The new appointment represents the latest move to increase the awareness of the brand among consumers.
