Marangoni Becoming a “Global Player“ in Brazil

Although Italian firm Marangoni celebrated its 50th anniversary in the new Millennium, the year 2000 primarily represented a significant milestone on its path towards becoming a global operator. Today, ten years later, the Marangoni Group is, aside from Bandag and the new tyre manufacturers’ retreading activities, the industry’s sole genuine “global player”. The company has not only successfully established itself in Europe and North America, it is now slowly gaining a foothold in China. However in the last decade it is the operation in Brazil that has, above all, become the backbone of its global industrial presence.

The 2010 US based round of this environmental motorsport awards programme gets underway at the Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 20.

Bridgestone is Most Recommended 4×4 Tyre Brand

The latest market research on which 4×4 tyre brands are most recommended to customers suggests that the theory that premium brands have been able to hold their share in the market are likely to be true. In the case of Bridgestone (the most recommended 4×4 tyre brand in the survey) this means the company’s tyres are recommended 18.02 per cent of the time, almost twice as much as the nearest competitor.

The number two spot is held by Pirelli, whose tyres are recommended 10.4 per cent of the time. Together with Goodyear (9.92%); Michelin (7.2%); Avon (6.40%); Continental (5.92%); and Dunlop (2.48%), this means premium brands account for over 60 per cent of recommendations. Encircles’ data doesn’t report the specifics of conversion rates, but if the majority of these recommendations are converted into sales (something which is generally considered to be the case) then this premium-heavy metric would put the 4×4 sector way ahead of the passenger car sector as a whole which is considered to be comprised of about 30 per cent premium tyres.

Canadian Province Makes Winter Tyres on School Buses Mandatory

Two years after a school-owned van travelling without winter tyres fitted on all wheels collided with a truck in the snow, the New Brunswick government in Canada has made the fitment of these cold weather tyres upon its fleet of multi-function activity buses mandatory. Seven members of the Bathurst High School boys basketball team died in the January 2008 collision, and in the absence of official tests being conducted by the province into the safety of summer tyres in winter, the parents of three of the boys had arranged to have the tyre configurations currently used on activity buses in the province's schools privately tested in Michigan. The tests were scheduled to take place on February 24, the day after New Brunswick announced its new tyre rule.

Stapleton’s: 4×4 Tyres For Every Price Range

As one of the largest distributors of passenger car tyres in the UK, wholesaler Stapleton’s prides itself on being able to offer tyres suitable for every retailer and every price bracket. This means stocking all major brands of 4×4 and SUV tyres. However this month the company also pointed out that the current “high fuel prices and doom and gloom of the economy will undoubtedly affect the already high running costs associated with 4×4 vehicles.” Some consumers may be monitoring their spending more closely and looking to make savings on their purchases, company representatives commented, explaining that the breadth of tyre range the company offers should ensure that Stapleton’s can support retailers in offering a wide range of 4×4 tyres, “at both the premium and quality levels.”
