TyreSafe Warns Bikers of Pothole Threat

TyreSafe has continued its April campaign to promote motorbike tyre safety by reminding bikers that they can reduce some of the problems associated with damaged roads by ensuring their tyres are properly inflated. The increase in the number of potholes on the UK’s roads following the harsh winter has increased the vulnerability of tyres running at incorrect pressures, especially from the angular edges of potholes or kerbstones. This damage can result in dangerous bulges in the sidewall, or cuts that render the tyre illegal.

Bridgestone Expects “Relatively Severe” Treatment of Tyres in Malaysia

The first back-to-back Grand Prix of the 2010 Formula One season takes place at the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia this weekend; tyre supplier Bridgestone will be taking 2,000 hard, soft and intermediate compound Potenzas. The company’s director of Motorsport Tyre Development, Hirohide Hamashima believes the circuit, with two long straights leading into tight, slow speed corners which require heavy braking, will be putting high energy levels through the tyres. In addition to the range of corners and the circuit’s general layout the hot weather will also provide a harsh test for the drivers’ management of their tyres. There is also a poetically cyclical aspect to Bridgestone’s visit; “much of our natural rubber comes from this region,” states Bridgestone Motorsport director, Hiroshi Yasukawa.

Arla Foods Milks Benefit of Michelin X One Tyres

Those with a hankering for milk products will be pleased to hear that the use of Michelin’s X One MaxiTrailer tyres has enabled Leeds based dairy company Arla Foods UK plc to increase the load capacity of its palletised milk deliveries by 50 per cent. Through the added stability the Michelin tyre provides the company’s first variable deck trailer, Arla Foods can now load 36 pallets on board as opposed to 24. The Gray & Adams variable deck trailer is being used by Arla Foods to support a major contract that requires milk to be delivered in palletised loads to a regional distribution centre, from where the retailer amalgamates it with other products prior to delivery to its stores. This process differs from most milk contracts where products are transported in roll cages that are wheeled directly from the trailer onto the shop floor.
