Avon Tyres Reaches Motorcycle Centenary

Avon Tyres is celebrating the centenary of its commencement of motorcycle tyre production in 2011. The Avon association with tyre production goes back to 1885, when a former cloth mill in Melksham, Wiltshire was turned into a rubber goods factory. By the turn of the century the company was diversifying, producing more rubber products and by 1911 Avon produced their first motorcycle tyre. It is now the only UK-based manufacturer of road-going motorcycle tyres.

2010 a ‘Record Year’ for Delticom

After examining its preliminary financial results Delticom has declared 2010 a “record year” for the company. During the 12 month period the online tyre dealer’s revenues increased 34.8 per cent to 419.4 million euros and its customer base across the more than 100 online shops operated in 39 countries grew by almost a million to give Delticom a total of 4.4 million customers.

CGS Supplies Deutz-Fahr 8-Wheel Prototype Tyres

With more than 70 per cent of CGS Tyres’ revenues coming from its agricultural tyre range – comprising Mitas, Cultor and Continental under licence – the Czech tyre division of CGS Holding Group (Czech Rubber Company) boasts an extensive international sales and distribution network operating in 13 countries, including the United States and Mexico. The manufacturer has an annual turnover of more than $430 million cementing a place among the top three European producers of agricultural and construction equipment tyres. With its current operations based in Europe, 90 per cent of CGS Tyres’ sales are on the European market. The company’s development strategy states that the company will focus on increasing its global presence, which has begun with the establishment of a US base in Iowa.

Mytyres Unburdens Itself on Van Overloading

Commenting on the results of a recent Vehicle and Operator Service Agency’s (VOSA) Effectiveness Report, mytyres.co.uk says Britain’s van drivers have an “unenviable record” when it comes to overloading. The online retailer, part of the Delticom family of internet portals, adds that the impact of such behaviour upon tyres – which it adds are also often under-inflated – can be reduced operating life and a possible blow out.

Quinton Tyres Opens New Head Office

Tyre supplier and fleet service provider Quinton Tyres has consolidated its operations at three sites into a single location. The new 28,000 square foot site in Dukinfield was set up with a ₤1.35 million investment and will act as a base for Quinton’s entire operations, including mobile tyre fitting, sales, accounts, marketing and a new retail on-site fitting facility.

Latest Generation Conti Eco Tyre Cuts Rolling Resistance 20%

In designing its latest eco tyre range, Continental AG was influenced to a large extent by the changing requirements of its OEM customers. As Alexander Lührs, head of Continental’s press and public relations for passenger and light truck tyres, explained at the recent ContiTechnikForum held in Portugal, “the requirements for tyre development are in a very dynamic state.” This especially applies to rolling resistance optimised products. “Car manufacturers need to reduce CO2 emissions. This means they ask us and our competition to come up with new solutions in this regard.”

Tyre Shortage? Fujian Province Exported Over 32.85 million Tyres in 2010

While wholesalers importing Chinese tyre products into mature European markets such as the UK struggle to negotiate supply issues and brace themselves for another round of price increases, there are reports that tyre makers in one part of the People’s Republic are over-producing to the extent that they are actually stockpiling tyres.

Southeast China's Fujian province exported 32.85 million between January and November 2010, signalling a 27.6 per cent year-on-year increase in shipments, according to a report from the province's customs officials. The total value of the tyres sold is said to have amounted to US$460 million, a jump in value of 34.8 per cent over the corresponding period of 2009. The export price averaged $13.9 per unit, up 5.7 per cent from 2009.

Toyota, Lexus Join TyreSafe

Toyota and Lexus became the latest vehicle manufacturers to join tyre safety organisation, TyreSafe, helping the group reach a dozen vehicle manufacturer members helping to raise standards of tyre care and maintenance through driver education and engagement. “It’s wonderful to receive the support and backing of two fantastic brands such as Toyota and Lexus,” comments Stuart Jackson, chairman of TyreSafe. “We have seen very positive results from the excellent contributions made by our other vehicle manufacturer members and we are looking forward to the two new members becoming equally involved.”

ATS Euromaster to Manage Ambulance Fleet’s Tyres

Britain’s largest ambulance trust, the North West Ambulance Service, has signed a deal with ATS Euromaster to fit Michelin cold weather tyres to its fleet of 135 rapid response cars. The NHS Trust covers Cumbria, Lancashire, Mersey Regional, Cheshire and Greater Manchester. It selected the cold weather tyres for its ‘blue-light’ Ford Mondeos, Skoda Elegances / Scouts and Volvo V50s. The tyres are being delivered directly to nominated Trust vehicle workshops across the North West, with ATS Euromaster’s extensive mobile tyre fitting fleet – the largest of its type in the country – used to co-ordinate the replacements promptly on-site.

Avon Tyres Secures PVR Deal With ATS Euromaster

Premier Vehicle Rental (PVR) has selected Avon Tyres for its new three-year, fixed-term tyre supply contract through ATS Euromaster (ATSE). PVR is aiming to double its fleet of 150 vehicles and will benefit from the combined strength of ATSE’s nationwide centre network and its fleet of nearly 1,000 mobile service vans.

PVR has reportedly been seeking to better manage costs and says streamlining tyre servicing through a national provider will help take it “from strength to strength.” Its intention to double its fleet size in the next three ears, with an increase to 220 vehicles in the next six months, means that adopting a one-stop national approach is a vital step for the business. PVR’s fleet comprises mainly Mercedes-Benz Vito and Sprinter vans, which are rented on contracts for a minimum of 12 months. Its customers range from maintenance firms to food delivery services.

Japanese Motorists Would Pay Extra for Fuel Efficient OE Tyres – Study

Upon the release of its JDPower Asia Pacific 2010 Japan Original Equipment Tire Customer Satisfaction Index Study, the global marketing information company reports that Japanese motorists are becoming increasingly well disposed towards fuel-efficient tyres and says that, if given the option, a “sizable percentage” would be willing to pay extra to have fuel-efficient tyres equipped on their new vehicle.
