Continental adds Lodge Tyres to Conti360° network

Raw Tyres wins £8,995 alignment prize

HiQ branch Raw Tyres in Pontefract has won a Hunter HawkEye ‘Special’ imaging aligner worth £8,995 in a competition organised by wheel alignment specialists Pro-Align. The winning workshop was one of 251 from across the UK that entered Pro-Align’s online competition as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations.

Bridgestone donates tyres to Cambridgeshire charity

Bridgestone has donated over £2,000 worth of free tyres to Cambridgeshire charity Connections. The charity, which supports its local 13 to 19 year olds with a wide range of advice, guidance and practical help, relies on its converted double decker buses for its drop-in youth clubs. The tyres have come as a welcomed surprise, especially during a time when tyre prices continue to increase.

Goodgrip.co.uk to compete for UK e-tail business, winter tyres

On 18 October 2011 Goodgrip.co.uk will weigh into the UK online tyre and wheel retail business. Goodgrip.co.uk is the UK name for Nordic firm Bythjul Norden AB, which is purportedly one of the largest online tyre retailers in Europe. The company reports that it will offer the UK motorist an “unrivalled range of products, level of experience and competitive pricing.”

Nexen introduces N’Blue fuel saver tyres at the Nürburgring

Nexen Tyre Europe GmbH recently invited partners from numerous European countries to the Nürburgring to test the quality of Nexen’s new Nexen N’Blue ECO and Nexen N’Blue HD fuel-saver tyres.Over fifty dealers from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Great Britain, France and Italy travelled to the Eifel (Germany) on 7 September to learn about both Nexen and its newest products. Participants were offered extensive test drives on the Nürburgring grand prix track. Using VW Golfs equipped with either the new Nexen N’Blue ECO or Nexen N’Blue HD summer tyres, the market specialists were shown the fuel-saver products’ driving and handling properties.

SMMT back winter tyres with media event

The SMMT, and the journalists the association invited to a recent media event, have come out in support of using winter tyres. “Tyres can have a major effect on a car’s performance, improving its safety and keeping it moving in winter conditions,” said Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive. “Winter tyres provide greater grip and handling, reducing braking distances in cold, wet conditions as well as on snow and ice. With temperatures starting to drop and the wetter seasons approaching, motorists should make sure they have the best tyres for the road and climate conditions.”

Martin Tomczyk is maiden DTM champion on Hankook tyres

Martin Tomczyk is the new DTM champion. In Sunday’s penultimate season round at Valencia, the Audi driver wrapped up the title by finishing third and prior to the finale at Hockenheim, he is now beyond reach with an advantage of 13 points. His main rival Bruno Spengler (Mercedes-Benz) only scored two points by finishing seventh and now has to defend his current second position in the drivers’ standings at Hockenheim. With his third race win of the season, Mattias Ekström (Audi) came within two points from the Canadian.

DfT: defective tyres contribute to more than 1,200 road casualties

The Department for Transport (DfT) revealed yesterday that illegal, defective and under-inflated tyres were responsible for more than 1,210 road casualties in Great Britain during 2010. The latest Road Casualties in Great Britain report shows that 18 motorists were killed during the year from defective tyres, bringing the number of tyre related deaths on UK roads in the last five years to 164.

McIntyres animation debuts as Tyre Safety Month begins

As part of October’s tyre safety month, TyreSafe has announced the debut of the McIntyres, an animated family of crash test dummies offering some key tyre safety tips to drivers on the TyreSafe website. In their first appearance for the organisation, the family highlights three key aspects of tyre safety – Air pressure, Condition and Tread depth – otherwise known to the organisation as the acronym ACT. Quality not quantity – Fewer tyres for WRC and WTCC in 2012

Current FIA strategy is to increase its championships’ association with “road relevant technologies and environmental sustainability in motor sport” while maintaining control of the costs involved. This focus was reflected in several decisions approved at a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) on September 23. Amongst a number of points agreed upon at the Singapore-based meeting was the decision to reduce the number of tyres available to competitors in next year’s FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) and World Touring Car Championship (WTCC).

Vendetta Tyres prepares for wider European launch

If the team behind the “Vendetta Tyres“ brand had its way, deliveries to a large chunk of the European tyre market would have already got underway during the course of this year. Yet, as Laree Jane notes, success in Europe involves building up both a new brand and customer relationships, and the director of Melbourne, Australia-based Vendetta International Pty. Ltd is confident of achieving this soon. Sales of Vendetta tyres began last year in the Australian home market and the brand will shortly be present in Canada, Argentina and Ireland, Vendetta’s first market in Europe. Vendetta International now has its eyes on entering further replacement markets; the company is seeking agencies in the UK and other European countries. Speaking with Tyres & Accessories, Laree Jane explained the company’s plans for Europe and what Vendetta International has to offer.

Avon-shod Caterham breaks donut world record

Avon Tyres’ niche CR500 product has helped long-time partner Caterham Cars and stunt driver Terry Grant set a new Guinness World Record for the number of donuts completed in one go, spinning a 150bhp Caterham Roadsport consecutively 566 times. Having seen his own previous record of 161 donuts beaten on Sunday, 4 September by one of Caterham’s rival sportscar manufacturers at 283, Grant was determined to reclaim his place at the top of the Guinness World Record table.

Seat gets behind TyreSafe’s winter safety campaign

Spanish vehicle manufacturer Seat is showing its support for Tyre Safety Month’s emphasis on winter safety with a campaign highlighting the benefits of winter tyres. The campaign will be run through more than 120 Seat dealers in the UK and explain to customers the main features of and qualities of these cold weather products – features familiar to those in the tyre industry but still an unknown for much of the British motoring public.
