Phase one at ContiLifeCycle plant successfully implemented

Following a two-year planning and construction phase, Continental reports the successful implementation of the first operational phase at its ContiLifeCycle facility in Hannover, Germany. “Following the official plant opening last December, the series production of retreaded tyres began in the plant at the start of the year,” reported the tyre maker on 13 June. “With this, important goals in regards to product characteristics have already been achieved. Furthermore, additional process-related enhancements are expected due to ongoing process improvements.”

Conti anticipating minor tyre market growth in 2014

This year, Continental expects to sell a total of 11 million more tyres in the European and the NAFTA replacement markets than in 2013. Speaking at the company’s press day in Hannover, Germany today, Continental CEO Dr. Elmar Degenhart stated that the tyre maker anticipates an increase of two per cent in these two regions, markets he said were “very important to our tyre replacement business”. He added that together with further growth effects in Asia and South America, Continental is looking forward to its global replacement tyre business rising three per cent this year. In regards to the original equipment segment, the CEO said Continental expects global production of passenger cars, SUVs and light commercial vehicles to increase by about two per cent.

A double win for Conti at TTI Awards

The winners of the Tire Technology International Awards for Innovation and Excellence 2014 have been announced, and Continental has walked away with awards in two of the five regular categories. In addition to being named Tire Manufacturer of the Year, the German firm was recipient of the Tire Manufacturing Innovation of the Year award for its ContiLifeCycle facility in Hannover. Other winners included Bridgestone, VMI and Sumitomo Rubber Industries. The awards were presented at a gala dinner held during this week’s Tire Technology Expo in Cologne.

Award throws spotlight on Contidrom’s test facilities

The Contidrom test facility operated by Continental near its Hannover headquarters in Germany has been named ‘Proving Ground of the Year 2013’ by Automotive Testing Technology International magazine. The 12-person judging panel presiding over the 2013 awards are said to have been particularly impressed by the Automated Indoor Braking Analyzer (AIBA) facility, which opened at the Contidrom site in autumn 2012.

Trelleborg claims widest tread width and footprint

Trelleborg Wheel Systems is preparing to present what it claims will be the largest agricultural tyre on the market in terms of footprint and tread width. The giant IF900/65R46 TM1000 High Power tyre will be available to view on the stand at Agritechnica between 10 and 16 November 2013 in Hannover, Germany.

Trelleborg launching Load Calculator Android app

Trelleborg is offering its “TLC – Trelleborg Load Calculator” app for use on Android tablets. The app, already available for iPad and desktop, aids in the calculation of the optimum tire inflation pressure on agricultural vehicles, A further version of the app for use on iOS smartphones, will be launched at Agritechnica 2013, which will be held in Hannover, Germany, from 10 – 16 November, 2013.

Reducing driving costs with recycling, retreading synergies

Continental will pursue the principle of making commercial vehicle tyres go further for customers with its synergetic TBR retreading facility named the ContiLifeCycle Plant. Announced in 2012 and due to open in Hannover-Stöcken later in 2013, the 10 million euro-plus plant is set to become the world’s first plant to integrate rubber recycling with hot and cold retreading, and will create more than 100 new jobs at Conti’s headquarters. Tyrepress got in touch with Christian Saas, Conti’s director Retread Business Commercial Vehicle Tires, to get the latest information on the plant prior to it coming on line.

These days it seems every tyre maker and his dog participate in motorsport. This is fine of course, and a good way to boost brand awareness. But serving as a tyre supplier involves considerable product development costs, not to mention the logistics and planning associated with each championship round. Trelleborg brings environmental commitment to leaflets

Trelleborg Blue Dimension concept is being taken to another level as the company announced its plans to print all promotional materials on only recycled paper certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), an international certification program that promotes environmentally appropriate forest management. The company’s new approach to brochures, leaflets and technical catalogues will start in July, with the new marketing materials shown for the first time at the leading agricultural exhibition Agritechnica 2013 in Hannover, Germany, on 10-16 November.
