British artists create exhibition from Cooper tyres

Four British artists chosen in partnership by Cooper Tire Europe and the UK’s leading art store, Castle Galleries, have created visual artworks starting with tyres as effective canvasses. Based on three themes relevant to Cooper Avon products and their motorsport heritage, the artists spent 257 man hours crafting the pieces, which will be displayed at Artica Galleries, South Molton Street, London until 17 February 2012.

Techking supplies ETADT tyres to Japanese firm

China tyre manufacturer Techking reports that it is successfully supplying a customer in Japan in conjunction with a local partner. Together the two companies have reportedly supplied the unnamed Japanese customer with Techking 16.00 R25 ETADT tyres, complete with service support.

Market view: MTS/Southam on 4×4 tyres

Micheldever Tyre Services distributed in excess of 800,000 4×4 tyres in the UK tyre market in 2011, especially through its Southam division which has a history specialising in the 4×4 sector. According to the company, this makes Southam “probably the largest distributor of 4×4 tyres in Europe.”

Looking forward into 2012, company representatives warn that major changes face the 4×4 market, particularly in the off-road sector, where traditional all-terrain and mud-terrain patterns are being forced to change in the face of increasingly tough noise regulations. And with tyre labelling being rolled out from June this year, followed by mandatory implementation in November before the rules are upgrade a few years later, this trend is set to continue.

New Pirelli F1 tyres will ‘provide an even better spectacle’

This week, as the 2012 Formula One season gets under way at Jerez in Spain, F1 teams will have their first chance to sample the definitive specification of Pirelli’s latest tyres. During the four-day test at the Andalusian circuit between 7 and 10 February, each car will have 25 sets of Pirelli’s new soft, medium and hard compounds available, along with wet tyres if needed. Teams are allowed a maximum of 100 sets of tyres per car each year for testing purposes, and they are permitted to choose the compounds they would like to test within their allowance. Not a single team nominated the supersoft compound – the only one to remain unchanged from 2011 – for Jerez.

Hankook donates tyres to African Charity Project

Hankook Tyre UK recently supplied 12 all-terrain Dynapro MT RT03 tyres which were fitted to two Land Rover Defenders in support of the Bhubesi Pride Project. The Bhubesi Pride Project is part of an initiative which involves a team of qualified coaching staff who shall spend six months driving through tricky terrain as they visit 15 schools in 10 African countries. The highly qualified coaching team shall be using rugby as a tool to help to educate schools and communities in Africa, both empowering teachers and uniting children through sport.

Heuver to market Aeolus passenger car tyres in Europe

In 2012 Aeolus Tyres will enter the European passenger car tyre market in partnership with Netherlands-based Heuver Tyrewholesale. Although Aeolus will be entering the passenger car market for the first time, the company reports that it was certainly not an overnight decision to do so. A whole new factory has been built in China and an international team of experienced tyre specialists is being used to develop the tyres. In addition Heuver reports that it is providing “frequent technical input,” to enable it to fulfil the requirements of the European market as well as possible.

Daimler India to fit JK tyres to Bharat Benz trucks

JK Tyre and Industries Ltd, India’s number three tyre maker, has reportedly secured an OE supply deal to Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt Ltd, supplying tyres for its Bharat Benz trucks.

“The latest original equipment manufacturer (OEM) client for us is Daimler India that will be rolling out trucks at its plant here,” Raghupati Singhania, vice chairman and managing director, told reporters on Monday 6 February, according local news sources. Daimler India is expected to launch its trucks sometime in the middle of this year.

Avon supplies tyres for inaugural Gulf 12 Hours

Avon Tyres Motorsport has supplied tyres to the inaugural Gulf 12 Hours event in Abu Dhabi on 20 January. The event was held at the Yas Marina Grand Prix circuit, featuring GT3 cars and CN2-class sports prototypes competing in a two six-hour races, the first of which took place in the heat of the day, the second under floodlights in the evening.

Sokov takes over as Sibur-Russian Tyres CEO

Sibur-Russian Tyres has announced the promotion of Dimitry Sokov to the role of chief executive officer. The chief operational officer’s appointment to the position takes effect 6 February. Sokov replaces Vadim Gurinov as chief executive officer; Gurinov now serves as chairman of the company’s Board of Directors.

Pro-Align makes DCM Tyres its first Alignment Centre of the Month

Wheel alignment equipment specialist, Pro-Align has made DCM Tyres in Shaftesbury its first ‘Alignment Centre of the Month’ winner for January 2012. The Hunter distributer says DCM has enjoyed a considerable month on month increase in turnover and profit generated from its HawkEye HD imaging aligner, installed five months ago when the Shaftesbury site opened. The retailer reports income of £4,000 from the machine in January alone.

Three van tyres from Yokohama cover seasonal usage

Japanese manufacturer Yokohama has a range of three van tyres available in the UK through its distributor Yokohama HPT and its nationwide dealer network. The patterns in the range aim to cover van applications across all conditions and circumstances, according to the company.
First in the commercial range is the RY818 tyre. Aimed predominantly at the urban delivery user, it features a flat tread pattern to maintain grip and safety under all vehicle load conditions while the design helps to improve water clearance in wet weather. Yokohama says its construction means that it will withstand the daily rigours of multiple deliveries, with its specially-designed kerbing rib protecting against sidewall damage, as well as resisting wear and generating long life and the all-important commercial consideration: value for money.

Dunlop scientist recognised with award

A scientist at Birmingham-based Dunlop Aircraft Tyres has been recognised for his work in developing a new tread compound that could increase the tyre life and reduce operating costs for airlines. James O’Callaghan, 26, from Erdington received the Sue Panteny Award from the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. While developing the new compound, O’Callaghan studied one-day a week for a polymer technology degree at Staffordshire University, which, after three years, he passed with first class honours last summer.

Lassa promotes winter tyres across Europe

Brisa-produced tyre brand, Lassa has been promoting its winter tyres across Europe with a series of television advertisements on Turkish channels. The brand also offers a tyre SOS service, sending the nearest dealer drivers’ contact information when in weather-related difficulty in Italy and Germany.
