Malhotra to launch radial agri tyres

Indian agricultural, off-road, speciality tyre and pre-cured tread manufacturer, Malhotra Rubbers Ltd has announced plans to launch a radial agricultural tyre product range this year.

“2012 shall be an exciting year from us as our whole team is gearing up to launch of our radial agricultural tyres for the European and US markets”, said company director, Monit Malhotra. According to Malhotra these will be marketed through their exclusive customers In Europe and USA.

Hembery explains Pirelli’s unmarked F1 tyres

The internet was rife with theories about why some of Pirelli’s Formula One tyres at the Circuit de Catalunya appeared without the usual colour-coded sidewall markings. The favourite was that at the final test before the first Grand Prix in Australia teams would be keen to keep their testing programmes and therefore potential tyre strategies from other teams. The real reason was much less clandestine – Pirelli’s Motorsport manager, Paul Hembery explained to French magazine, Auto Plus that the tyres had been manufactured at a site other than its usual F1 manufacturing plant in Izmit. The tyres were provided as prototypes to test Pirelli’s ability to provide current F1 rubber if Turkey’s output was compromised by natural disaster.

Bekaert to cooperate with Techking on ‘concept tyres’

On 19 January a delegation from Bekaert’s Shanghai, China office visited Techking. According to the company, during the meeting, Techking and Bekaert shared their respective views on thee future development trends relating to the tyre industry. Through technical communications relating to OTR, TBR and PCR lines, both parties agreed to develop steel cord with special specifications for Techking ‘concept’ tyre products.

1.1 seconds covers entire field at second Sepang MotoGP test

Bridgestone’s second Sepang pre-season test concluded today; fine weather allowed teams to test dry weather tyres after extended inclement weather on Tuesday and Wednesday prevented as much slick compound testing as they would have liked. Repsol Honda’s Casey Stoner was the fastest rider, setting a 2:00.473 lap on a combination of the hard front and medium rear tyres. Teammate Dani Pedrosa and Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider Andrea Dovizioso were next fastest. Shinji Aoki, manager, Bridgestone Motorsport Tyre Development Department, said he had been “pleased with the performance of the 2012 specification tyres” during the testing sessions.

2011 a ‘record year’ for Titan

Titan International has recorded a record fourth quarter and full-year 2011. The US firm says its year to date 2011 sales were the highest in company history and increased 69 per cent year-on-year to US$1.487 billion. Gross profit for 2011 amounted to $232.1 million, or 15.6 per cent of net sales, a year-on-year rise of 123.0 per cent. Net income for the year was $58.2 million, compared to a loss of $5.9 million during the 2010 financial year. Fourth quarter results tell a similar story: Sales during the three months to 31 December came to $402.9 million, up from $232.7 million in the fourth quarter of 2010. Income from operations increased from $16.2 million in the final quarter of 2010 to $58.5 million in the fourth quarter of last year.

Pirelli, Tyrespot promo winners visit Milan

Two Tyrespot customers have enjoyed an all expenses paid trip to Milan, thanks to a joint promotion run with Pirelli. Graham and Sheila Patterson from Chester-le-Street, County Durham won the prize, including flights, hotel, transfers and tickets to Pirelli-sponsored Inter Milan, having entered the competition by buying Pirelli’s premium tyres at the largest independent tyre supplier in North East England.

YHI International posts record net profit

Singaporean tyre, wheel and battery distributor and manufacturer, YHI International posted record net profits of S$41.1 million in 2011, though profit margin dwindled a percentage point on lower margins in its manufacturing business segment. The company distributes Yokohama, Nexen and Nankang tyres and Enkei, OZ and Konig wheels, among other brands, across south-east Asia. Executive chairman and Group managing director, Richard Tay said “despite the global economic uncertainties and strong competition, we have achieved excellent financial results… We are on track in executing our five-year business expansion plan (FY2011-FY2015) to grow our manufacturing and distribution businesses, and strengthen our multi-brand, multi-category and multi-product sales initiatives for all YHI’s sales offices and appointed distributors worldwide.”

Infinity to launch new Ecosis car tyre range

Infinity has announced plans to release a new passenger car tyre range later this year. The Ecosis product line up is said to form the basis for a new eco-friendly range, which is reportedly designed to supersede the INF 030.

According to the company, the Infinity Ecosis will be available from the second half of 2012, after the product unveiled at the company’s Infinity partners day to be held in China in May and after its makes its official European launch during the Reifen 2012 international trade show in Essen, Germany which will take place from 5-8 June 2012.

Report – Brazil’s drivers moving to replacement tyres

A recently published report by TechSci Research suggests that the Brazilian replacement tyre market will grow as the country’s increasing prosperity encourages drivers away from retreaded tyres. Karan Chechi, research director with TechSci Research argues: “The Brazilian tyre market is anticipated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of around 13 per cent for the next five years. It is forecast that its replacement tyre market will grow at a much faster pace than anticipated earlier due to the increasing number of automobiles on Brazilian roads, [which is expected] to reach 63 Million units by 2016.”

Report identifies economies of scale as key to Russian tyre growth

A new report published by TechSci Research suggests that economies of scale will benefit tyre manufacturers working in Russia, with cheaper raw materials, lower energy costs and the availability of cheaper labour factors over the next five years. In addition the country has a developing domestic market for premium tyres as its car parc increases. Karan Chechi, research director at TechSci Research argues: “Economies of scale would benefit the major global tyre manufacturers in Russia by limiting their restraints. The exponentially increasing demand from OEM and aftermarket will continue to drive the Russian tyre industry landscape in coming years.”

Trio of Conti tyres earmarked for Geneva launch

No less than three new passenger car tyre ranges are scheduled to be launched at Continental’s Geneva Motor Show stand. The German manufacturer hasn’t named the models it intends to unveil next month in Geneva, however it says the three lines are a new summer tyre for subcompacts, compacts and mid-size cars, a new winter tyre for the same vehicle categories, and a new winter tyre for electric cars.

Yokohama extends BluEarth concept to 4×4 tyres

Europe is to become the first international market for Yokohama’s new Geolandar SUV range. The 4×4 tyre went on sale in Japan this month and when it arrives here in March the Geolandar SUV will be available in 27 sizes from 245/50R20 102V to 205/70R15 96H. Following its European release, the energy efficiency-themed tyre will be gradually launched in other global markets.

Ashton Tyres the latest to introduce Cameo

Cam Systems’ Cameo suite will provide the platform for Wigan car and commercial tyre operator Ashton Tyres’ retail operation. The company says adopting the system will aid the expansion of the operation currently taking place, having completed a new building to house its commercial operation adjacent to its existing site. Director John Philbin sought advice from industry peers on software systems to suit his purposes: “Everyone I spoke to recommended Cameo. “Cam Systems is constantly developing the platform and is the market leader in innovation in the industry. The efficiencies Cameo delivers will enable our team to be more productive and we will save on hard costs.”
