Triangle Tyres joins ITMA

Triangle Tyre Company has become the latest company to join Europe’s Imported Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (ITMA). The association offers timelier access to technical, legislative and market information, helping tyre-makers to operate more effectively within the region. The company’s membership means that ITMA’s 16 members include the top five tyre manufacturers in China in terms of turnover. Triangle is the association’s sixth new member in the last year and a half; a fact ITMA says reflects the growing weight of regulations.

Farming contractor switches skid steer loader to Michelin radial tyres

Under advisement from local Michelin Exelagri dealer North Devon Tyres, a Somerset-based farming contractor has become one of the first UK customers to fit Michelin’s new BibSteel All-Terrain tyres on one of its skid steer loaders. Tone Valley Services, based in Taunton, owns five skid steer loaders which it uses on local farms. The machines, which are used predominantly to scrape and clean out chicken sheds, have been fitted with Michelin Stabil’X tyres for the last three years.

It’s all good: Titan reports a record start to 2012

Titan International is very pleased with its first quarter 2012 results. The company recorded sales of US$463.1 million for the three-month period, compared to first quarter 2011 sales of $280.8 million; these higher sales levels are attributed to the April 2011 acquisition of Goodyear’s Latin American agricultural tyre business, which recorded sales of $90.3 million for the first quarter 2012 and continued to benefit from strong demand in the agriculture and earthmoving/construction segment, combined with price/mix improvements.

Despite record sales, Goodyear posts a Q1 loss

Sales at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company during first quarter of 2012 were a record for the period, the US tyre maker claims. Announcing the company’s results for the opening three months of the year, Goodyear chairman and CEO Richard J. Kramer commented “I'm pleased with our results as our businesses posted solid operating income.”Our teams delivered these results in the face of a difficult volume environment and high raw material costs, with a strong focus on price/mix.

Champions of the prestigious series in the last 20 years have all used Avon’s rallycross rubber.

Pirelli: Tight racing aided by F1 tyres’ small performance gaps

Pirelli motorsport director, Paul Hembery has commented that Bahrain presented a technical challenge to Pirelli, whose tyres needed to avoid “falling off the cliff” in terms of their performance in harsh racing conditions. Sebastian Vettel became the fourth different driver and Red Bull the fourth different team to have won a Grand Prix after four events. Hembery believes the narrowing of the performance gaps between compounds has helped racing become tighter, evinced by these results. The Pirelli director also congratulated the company’s former test driver Roman Grosjean for claiming a first podium finish, and his Lotus team, which finished on the second (Kimi Raikkonen) and third steps.

Tyre sealant specialist Air-Seal joins TyreSafe

TyreSafe has sealed the deal on another new member. Tyre sealant supplier Air-Seal Products joined the tyre retailers and distributors, car manufacturers, insurers and public bodies promoting tyre safety already in the not-for-profit organisation. “Air-Seal Products will be a valuable addition to TyreSafe, says chairman Stuart Jackson. “Indeed, it seems particularly appropriate that Air-Seal should join TyreSafe as its products are designed to prevent punctures and have a heavy emphasis on making driving safer.

Dunlop demos sport-derived tyres at Rockingham

Dunlop held a showcase of its latest passenger car and motorcycle products, the Sport Maxx RT and the Dunlop RoadSmart II, at the Rockingham Circuit on Tuesday 17 April. 21 sports cars and 32 high performance motorcycles were gathered to demonstrate the tyres a series of workshops and hands-on demonstrations to key customers at the Northampton Circuit.

Solidite to exhibit industrial tyres in Essen

Indian industrial tyre manufacturer, Solidite Industrial Tyres & Systems (P) Ltd, has announced its plans to present its latest range of products at Reifen 2012.

Formed through the collaboration of what the company calls “some of the pioneers of the tyre and rubber industry”, Solidite aims to bring together combined tyre manufacturing experience of more than 100 years. According to the company, the very brand name itself represents the concept of “a true and dedicated elastic solid tyre.”

“Tale of two tyres” in Thruxton BSB round

Pirelli has called the second round of the British Superbike Championship at Thruxton a “tale of two tyres”, as the SC2 harder rear Diablo Superbike tyre compound was fitted to the winning bikes in both races. Ian Lowry took his first ever series win and the Championship lead, as he and race two winner, Josh Brookes both opted for the SC2 to beat series Tommy Hill towards the end of each race. British Champion Hill used the softer SC1 compound rear tyre in both outings.

Ryder becomes Bridgestone's largest truck customer

Ahead of the CV show, news has been released that commercial vehicle hire specialist Ryder has extended its exclusive deal with Bridgestone, becoming that company's largest truck customer in Europe.

The contract, which started in March this year has been extended to cover Ryder's expanded network, following its acquisition of Hill Hire in June 2011. Ryder now operates from 29 locations and has an enlarged fleet of more than 24,000 trucks and trailers.

P Zero Yellow soft tyre 0.6 seconds faster in China

Pirelli has taken its P Zero Yellow soft and P Zero White medium tyres to China for the forthcoming Grand Prix weekend, and it looks likely that the softer tyre will provide drivers with around 0.6 seconds per lap following Friday practice. Mercedes driver, Michael Schumacher used the P Zero Yellow to set the fastest time of the day during the second session, setting a time of 1:35:973 on his first flying lap. Pirelli said this display underlines the rapid warm-up of the soft compound.

Dairy farm fits Michelin radial tyres to skid steer loader

Michelin has fit its new BibSteel Hard-Surface radial tyres to a skid steer loader for one of the first times in the UK. Cornish dairy farmer, Graham Kitto, owner of Higher Coombe Farm in Liskeard, used cross-ply tyres on his three Bobcat skid steers, which are used to scrape yards and clear slurry. The unforgiving working environment, in which the tyres run on abrasive surfaces, meant the cross-plys rarely lasted more than 300 hours.

Apollo Tyres launches Apollo Super Zone outlet in Dubai

Apollo Tyres has launched the first of its self-branded Super Zone outlets outside India in Dubai. Designed to provide customers with a feel for the brand and its products, the Apollo Super Zone is located in Al Qiyada, near the Dubai Police General Headquarters and is operated by Middle East Tyres LLC, Apollo Tyres’ business partners. The Apollo Super Zone was inaugurated by chairman of Apollo Tyres, Onkar S Kanwar.
