Goodyear appoints JB Tyres Irish farm and industrial tyre dealer

Goodyear has appointed JB Tyres of Tobermore to the position of exclusive farm and industrial tyre dealer for Ireland. The agreement means that JB Tyres has become one of the largest Goodyear farm tyre dealers in Europe. The manufacturer said the distributor is topping European league tables for sales in 2012.

Goodyear long haul truck tyres take top fuel grade

Goodyear has followed its announcement that it will exhibit AA-labelled concept passenger car tyres at Reifen 2012 with the news that its Marathon LHT II long haul trailer tyre has achieved an A grade in fuel economy. The manufacturer says that fitting a combination of its Marathon LHS II + steer tyres, LHD II + drive tyres and LHT II trailer tyres to a typical five-axle 40 tonne truck could equip the vehicle with a fuel-saving combination of six A-grade, two B-grade and four C-grade tyres, depending on tyre size. The tyres also score well in the wet grip and noise emissions categories.

Goodyear Dunlop to show AA-graded concept tyres in Essen

Goodyear Dunlop has announced plans to present its first concept passenger car tyres to achieve A-grades in both rolling resistance and wet grip on the new EU tyre label. The two concept tyres, the Goodyear EfficientGrip AA edition and the Dunlop Sport BluResponse AA will be on display at Reifen 2012 on the Goodyear Dunlop stand (3-117) at next week’s Essen show. The concept tyres will not be available for sale.

Shell UK has announced plans to bring back forecourt attendants at more than 300 of its petrol stations by the end of the summer, rising to 600 locations by mid-2013. As well as dispensing fuel, the AA-trained staff will also offer basic car maintenance, such as checking tyres.

Mitas to exhibit new agricultural tyres at Cereals 2012

Mitas Tyres Ltd will exhibit two new tyres, the HC70 and AC70T, and the Continental SVT CHO (Cyclic Harvesting Operation) harvester tyre on its stand at Cereals 2012. The HC70 is an adaptable 70 series tyre designed for use on 90hp to 180hp tractors. The AC70T has deeper lugs, making it suitable for heavy field work. The show will take place at Boothby Graffoe, Lincolnshire on 13 and 14 June.

Land Rover recently produced its one millionth Discovery vehicle and, to celebrate this milestone and demonstrate the Discovery's versatility and all-round capability, the company decide to send the vehicle on a trip – from Birmingham to Beijing.

For this epic, 50-day, 8,000-mile adventure, Land Rover chose Wrangler DuraTrac tyres for the three vehicles that undertook the daunting journey across more than a dozen countries. Mark Prisk MP autographs first Michelin Durable Technologies tyres in Stoke

Business minister Mark Prisk MP visited Michelin’s Campbell Road, Stoke-on-Trent Remix truck tyre retread plant today (23 May) and acknowledged its modernisation and the completion of the introduction of the first phase of Michelin Durable Technologies retreading there. The minister literally signed-off the first four tyres to roll off the new production line after they passed the inspection process. Prisk was there to see how £20 million of investment has been used to upgrade machinery and equipment.

Number one Turkish tyre brand, Lassa has opened its first Italian flagship store in Milan. The Lassa Shop’s staff will specialise in providing tyres and assistance for the Brisa-manufactured brand, with two customer initiatives launched at the same time: a courtesy bike programme, supplying bicycles to customers changing tyres, and the new Tyre SOS text service, which provides contact details for nearby Lassa dealers should problems occur.

Stuart Jackson re-elected TyreSafe chairman

Road safety organisation TyreSafe has re-elected Stuart Jackson for the second time as its chairman for a further two years. Membership at the organisation has enjoyed continued growth during Jackson’s tenure, started in 2009, extending to car manufacturers, insurers, equipment suppliers and other relevant road safety bodies such as police forces, the Highways agency and the Association of Chief Fire Officers. GT Radial to launch 4 TBR, 2 PCR tyres at Reifen 2012

GT Radial has announced that it will launch four new truck tyres and two new car tyres in Hall Three at Reifen 2012, including a flagship product for the ultra high performance sector. The company’s first retreaded truck tyre – the GT REE Tread, or GTR990 – will also be displayed at Messe Essen, making its first European appearance having been launched at The Commercial Vehicle Show 2012. The retread is a hot cure bead-to-bead retread built on GT Radial casings, available in a regional trailer pattern and in 385/65R22.5 sizing.

Loader record broken on Bridgestones

World speed records for passenger cars may be approaching the 250mph or 400km/h range, but it is possible to be a record breaker at more modest speeds. Bridgestone reports a Volvo wheel loader fitted with its VHS tyres has broken 103 km/h, creating a new world speed record for this type of vehicle.
