KRT launches revamped kingsroadtyres.co.uk

Kings Road Tyres (KRT) has launched a new corporate website, bringing together its full portfolio of brands online for the first time. kingsroadtyres.co.uk is designed to allow customers to identify hundreds of applications for the Truck and Bus, Agricultural, Industrial and Construction, Consumer, OTR and High Speed Crane, Pneumatic Industrial and Tubes and Flaps ranges stocked by KRT. It also provides dealers with access to KRT’s online stock enquiry and ordering system and a facility to lodge trade enquiries.

Continental tyres help logistics company save money

Irish independent long-haul logistics company Virginia International Logistics says it is making significant fuel savings with Continental as it celebrates 30 years in business. The firm has saved 1,800 euros in the past six months by running Continental tyres across half of its fleet, and is now in the process of moving all remaining vehicles onto Continentals.

31,800 race tyres and 314 pasta dishes – Pirelli’s 2012 F1 experience

According to Pirelli, during the 2012 Formula One season the tyre maker supplied teams with a total of 31,800 race tyres (22,500 dry tyres and 9,300 wet tyres) plus an additional 6,600 tyres for testing. A quarter of all tyres delivered were soft compound, while medium proved the second most popular fitment and accounted for 21 per cent of all tyres. Intermediate tyres accounted for a further 18 per cent, while hard, wet and supersoft supplies were 17 per cent, 11 per cent and six per cent respectively. Two per cent of all tyres supplied were development tyres. The average lifespan of dry compound tyres this season was 180 kilometres, while wet compound tyres lasted 140 kilometres on average.

Teams get first taste of Pirelli’s 2013 tyres

The first taste of Pirelli’s 2013 tyres for teams came during free practice in Brazil, with the Italian firm bringing two extra sets of prototype tyres in addition to the usual allocation. The teams used the 2013 prototype tyres, which were distinguished by orange writing on the sidewalls, in the morning session. The prototype tyres seen in Brazil have a different structure compared to the 2012 tyres, using the current hard compound, but with a quicker warm-up time as well as deliberately faster degradation.

TyreSafe: 2012 Tyre Safety month broke new ground

TyreSafe’s 2012 tyre safety month “reached new levels of…participation”, according to the industry body. A record amount of printed point-of-sale material, including 200,000 leaflets and posters, were distributed to those in the tyre industry, particularly to participating tyre retailers and workshops offering free tyre safety checks to car owners.

1,400 vehicle recycling fleets signs to use Michelin tyres

Michelin will supply tyres to recycling and resource management company SITA UK across its fleet of 1,400 vehicles after signing Michelin’s largest ever pence-per-vehicle-per-month deal with a “stop loss” policy incorporated. The three-year deal is structured to give both companies a shared financial incentive to reduce tyre damage over the longer term, particularly when it comes to SITA UK’s operations on landfill sites and in waste collections where tyre damage is more likely to occur.

Hankook donates tyres in Hungary

As part of its corporate social responsibility program (CSR) in Hungary, Hankook has donated over 1300 winter tyres to three organisations – National Ambulance Service, National Disaster Relief and Hungarian Red Cross – to support their invaluable services to the community. This is the largest tyre donation ever in Hungary.
In 2012, Hankook launched an overarching CSR strategy in Hungary, where the company's European production facilities are located. The "Hankook Value Creation Program" is based on three pillars: Environment, Health & Education and Social Campaigning.

Evergreen to complete second PCR production line in 2013

Exhibiting its latest passenger car and commercial vehicle tyres from a large central booth at Reifen China, Shandong Jinyu Tire brand Evergreen's Global Sales Division representatives told Tyres & Accessories/Tyrepress.com that the company's second PCR production line is nearing its completion date in 2013 as it ramps up manufacture of the brand. The company's current PCR capacity of 13 million units will rise as the reported US$445 million total investment comes on line. By 2015, Evergreen estimates having a PCR and LTR capacity of 21 million pieces, with truck products pushing that figure to an estimated 26 million overall.

New facility to recycle tyres

Iona Capital has recently announced an investment in Gradena Limited to recycle waste tyres and UPVC. Gradena is a joint venture between Gradsol Ltd and Dena Technology Ltd, a provider of nanotechnology solutions and will manufacture wood replacement goods from the waste tyres and UPVC. Gradsol is a management consultancy company that specialises in sustainability and operational consultancy, particularly in the waste sector.

Pirelli becomes BSB Superstock sole supplier

Pirelli will increase its British Superbike presence from 2013 when the manufacturer becomes the sole tyre supplier and title sponsor for National Superstock 1000 and 600 classes. The Triumph Triple Challenge series will also use Pirelli control tyres. The brand has been the single tyre supplier in the Superbike and Supersport categories since 2008. Pirelli will offer the Diablo Supercorsa tyres for all three championships.

Dunlop Aircraft Tyres Appoints CEO

Dunlop Aircraft Tyres has appointed Mike Askew as chief executive officer. He joins the firm from APPH Group, a company that designs and manufactures hydraulic systems and landing gears for commercial and military aircraft. Askew had been managing director at APPH for almost three years and before that he held senior positions at Doncasters and GKN Westland Helicopters.

Apollo Tyres Q2 net profits up 96 per cent

Apollo Tyres has released its unaudited financial figures for the second quarter of the company's financial year 2012-13 (July to September). Net sales were up 18 per cent year on year at 33.7 billion Rupees (US$ 612.29 million), operating profit rose 55 per cent to Rs 3.8 bn (US$ 135.33 m) and net profit was up an impressive 96 per cent to Rs 1.5 bn (US$ 27.62 m).

Tructyre buys PK Commercial Tyres

Tructyre (Fleet Management) Ltd has announced that it acquired the PK Commercial Tyres group of companies effective 31 October 2012. According to a statement detailing the news, both companies, having worked closely together over a number of years, report “good synergies”.
