GT Radial tyres on 10 new Bartrums trailers

Bartrums Warehousing and Distribution has received 10 Wilcox 70 cubic yard plank sided tipping trailers fitted with the company’s specification GT Radial GT876 tyres. Bartrums has completed a two-year tyre test programme in which various GT Radial patterns were compared across different vehicle types and wheel positions. Following these performance results the brand was made main supplier to the entire fleet, GT Radial says.

Goodyear showcases tyres for world’s largest semi-truck

Now this is a truck, Crocodile Dundee may have drawled. Australia is no stranger to the superlative, and the country is soon to be home to what Guinness World Records claims is the world’s largest semi-truck. Tractomas, built by French heavy-haulage specialist Nicolas, is capable of pulling a road train weighing 535 tonnes. The 1,000 horsepower tractor is fitted with 385/95R25 Goodyear GP-2B tyres, and before it departs down under the Goodyear-shod giant is on display at the Bauma 2013 show in Germany.

Scrub motorcycle rubber, urges TyreSafe

Carbon One to introduce eco-friendly carbon wheels

British design firm Carbon One is poised to introduce a new range of wheels manufactured with carbon to achieve reduced weight targets. The firm estimates that using “next-generation lightweight materials, such as carbon fibre composites, could reduce passenger car weight by 50 per cent and improve fuel efficiency by about 35 per cent without compromising performance or safety” – and wheels are the latest component to which it is seeking to apply this thinking.

Analysts: UK to become e-commerce capital of the world

In the future 81 per cent of the UK population will be living in urban areas. There will be 200 million connected devices and one in four British citizens will be shopping online – the highest number in the world, per capita. The over 65s will represent a fifth of the population. The country’s South East region will grow to become the second largest region after London, accounting for 15.3 per cent of total GDP. That’s all if Frost & Sullivan’s 'New Mega Trends in the UK' analysis, which looks forward to 2025, turns out to be correct. However, even if there are only half right the flavor of what might take place in the next year if of interest to all sectors of the industry.

Bridgestone launches first dedicated Ecopia trailer tyre

Bridgestone’s fuel economy focused Ecopia truck tyre range has added a dedicated trailer product to its ranks for the first time: the new Ecopia H-Trailer 001. Bridgestone says the tyre has been designed to achieve increased fuel saving in highway operations, courtesy of improved rolling-resistance and wet grip performance. The manufacturer adds that the Ecopia H-Trailer 001 has strong mileage and durability characteristics.

ISO 9001:2008 certification for Magna Tyres

Netherlands-headquartered OTR, industrial and truck tyre company Magna Tyres Group has been awarded ISO 9001:2008 certification for its quality management system. Official certification audits at the Magna Tyres headquarters in Waalwijk were completed in March 2013.

Kumho continues Ecowing tree programme

Kumho Tyres, the Korean tyre maker’s Australian operation, is continuing its relationship with eco-motoring organisation Greenfleet with the planting of 5,000 trees around the country. The trees are being planted to commemorate the Australian release of the Ecowing KH27; Kumho also partnered with Greenfleet last year, and 5,000 trees were planted to mark the launch of the Ecowing all-season tyre.

China’s tyre makers producing more car tyres, fewer truck

Chinese tyre manufacturers are shifting away from the production of truck tyres in favour of passenger car product, according to local news sources and Bloomberg. Even with this shift, however, China’s net rubber consumption will remain flat for 2013, good news for tyre pricing worldwide.

New tyres from Mindtrac, Beltyre, LAUGFS

Singapore’s Mindtrac launched its new Ultra X range of Indian-manufactured cross-ply tyres for truck and light truck applications in a 20-strong line-up. The company said it secured business at the show with customers in Singapore, Pakistan and the Philippines.

Leeds CC fits GT Radial winter tyres on Community Meals fleet

Leeds City Council fitted GT Radial’s Champiro WinterPro cold weather tyres to its Community Meals fleet this winter on the recommendation of its tyre partner, Earthmover Tyres. Thanks to the addition of seasonal rubber, the Council said its 16 Citroen Berlingos delivered more than 420 meals safely every day across the city, regardless of the inclement weather.

Raikkonen, Lotus ‘understand’ Pirelli tyres best to win in Australia

With much of the grid employing different tyre strategies at the season-opening Australian grand prix, Pirelli’s Motorsport director Paul Hembery believes that the winning drive by Lotus’ Kimi Raikkonen displayed the best understanding of the “deliberately bold” selection of rubber. Raikkonen won the Australian Grand Prix using a two stop strategy, having started the race on the P Zero Red supersoft tyre and then completing two stints on the P Zero White medium tyre. Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, the Finnish driver’s closest rival used a three-stop strategy, as did the rest of the top six.

A new record for the fastest man, and tyre, on ice

Janne Laitinen is the fastest driver on ice….in the world. The Finnish test driver teamed up with Nokian Tyres to break the record on the ice covering the Gulf of Bothnia, the Baltic Sea’s northerly cul-de-sac. For the record attempt on 9 March, Laitenen drove an Audi RS6 fitted with size 255/35R20 97 T XL Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 studded tyres. In freezing winter weather, Laitenen’s Nokian-shod car reached an eye watering 208.602 mph (335.713 km/h).
