Falken becomes ‘Tudor’ series partner, GTLM supplier

Falken Tire has signed up as a partner to the series formed by the merger of the American Le Mans Series and Rolex Sports Car Series and announced earlier this year. Company officials signed the two-year deal with those from the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) – which sanctions the new Tudor United SportsCar Championship – at the SEMA show in the US on 6 November. In addition to being a partner of IMSA and the Tudor Championship, Falken will serve as a tyre supplier for the open-supply GT Le Mans (GTLM) class, one of four classes included in the championship.

Stapleton’s has commenced its series of re-fits in line with its Matador Key Dealer Programme. Wootton Tyres, an independent tyre retailer on the Isle of Wight, became the first depot to be re-branded to reflect its participation in the programme, and Stapleton’s says many more are to follow.

OE fitments for Yokohama’s ‘green’ tyres spread

More manufacturers are selecting Yokohama’s flagship environmental BluEarth tyres for their model ranges, according to the company. Manufacturers such as Toyota, Lexus and Honda have all chosen the products as original equipment on some of the most recent additions to the range of hybrid and environmentally-friendly vehicles.

Moss Tyres voted GT Radial’s ‘dealer of the quarter’

Wetherby-based Moss Tyres has been named GT Radial Performance Centre Dealer of the Quarter. The business, which has been based in SandbackPark for over 20 years and operates sites in York and Hull, was chosen due to its continued investment in improving customer care and knowledge of the GT Radial product portfolio. In addition, Moss Tyres further improved customer service through team training sessions on the history and product attributes of every tyre in the GT Radial range

Top test results for Bridgestone’s winter tyres

Bridgestone has been rewarded for its winter tyre investment with some high finishers in some major German magazines’ winter tyre tests. Representing the pinnacle of Bridgestone’s expertise in tread and compound technology, the Blizzak LM-32 performed extremely well in the latest independent tests, earning the label of “highly recommended” from Autozeitung and ends 4th out of 50 tyres in AutoBild.

Nokian WR D3, SUV 3 winter tyres take German plaudits

Nokian’s WR D3 winter tyre has been “especially recommended”, scoring the top “good” rating, in German automobile club ADAC and consumer protection organisation Stiftung Warentest’s 2013 winter tyre test. The tyre was equally recommended by German car magazine Auto Motor Sport. The Finnish manufacturer and winter tyre specialist also received plaudits for its new WR SUV 3 tyre in two German SUV specialist titles.

Pirelli develops record-breaking custom P Zero for Alfa Romeo 4C

Pirelli has launched two fitments for the recently launched Alfa Romeo 4C. The new 4C lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 8:04 on the P Zero Trofeo tyres – a new Alfa Romeo record – which were developed in less than a year of intense work between Pirelli and Alfa Romeo engineers. The car has the option of fitting 17” on the front and 18” on the back, or 18” on the front and 19” on the back.

Pirelli launches winter tyres promotion

Pirelli has launched a new initiative based around the operating temperature of winter tyres. Customers who purchase the manufacturer’s winter products are being offered a 50 per cent refund should the average UK daily temperature remain higher than seven degrees Celsius for more than 30 days between 1 January 2014 and 28 February 2014.

Avon Tyres supported 2013 Time Attack season concludes

Avon Tyres witnessed a strong end to the 2013 Time Attack series at Brands Hatch, as two titles and an all-time Time Attack lap record were claimed on its tyres. Avon became an official tyre supplier to the increasingly popular Time Attack series at the start of 2013, supplying its acclaimed ZZR road-legal circuit tyres and full competition slicks to entrants.

Marangoni Marix Energeco geared towards retread labelling

Marangoni Commercial & Industrial Tyres has announced the development of a new programme within its Marix range of retreaded truck tyres. The retread product manufacturer says the Energeco brand has the objective of improving the performance of rolling resistance, which the company identifies as a decisive factor in the decision-making process for professional users and fleets operating over long distances. It will also become more prominent when EU tyre labelling's second phase encompasses retread truck tyre products, the manufacturer says.

Kings Road Tyres adapts brand strategy with new Tianli, Maxam deals

Kings Road Tyres has adapted its brand strategy to meet customer needs in 2013, saying the key to success in demanding market conditions is to meet the changing needs of trade customers. With this in mind, the wholesaler has recently launched new distribution deals with Chinese OTR manufacturer Tianli, and with Luxembourg-based construction and industrial pneumatic tyre supplier, Maxam.

Stephen McKeown wins Formula 1 Era Superbike Championship on Avon Tyres

The Formula 1 Era Superbike champion has been crowned, and Stephen McKeown was helped to his title by Avon Tyres, the sponsor of the series. McKeown took the Irish and Ulster Championships of the series on his Aprilia RSV1000 Mille, with eight wins and two second places during the season. This marks the first time a major international series has been won on Avon tyres since the 1990s.

AJS Tyres proprietor completes Rallye des Cimes on single set of General’s Grabber MT

The proprietor of AJS Tyres and specialist AJS 4×4 in Lower Kingswood for over 35 years, Andy Sargeant was British Off Road Champion in 1989 and has competed in more off-road rallies than he cares to remember. He says the most important thing in any form of motorsport – or indeed in general driving – is to keep a full set of inflated tyres under your vehicle to have full control. So when he defeated the tough conditions of the recent Rallye des Cimes in his Defender 110 TD5 – the self-styled “Cimes Tractor” – the fact that he did it on the new General Tire Grabber MT made quite an impression. Sargeant says he will now pass on this experience to Land Rover owning customers.
