Into the ‘Guinness Book of Records’ on Bridgestone Tyres

Gerhard Plattner, an Austrian journalist and specialist in fuel economy record-breaking, succeeded in crossing ten European countries using just one tank of diesel. His trip began on 16th November 2004 in the German town of Lindau, on Lake Constance, with a full sealed tank and the firm intention to cross as many countries as possible without refuelling. After first travelling through Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, he returned to Austria via the Feldkirch border crossing. The road took him further through the South Tyrolean Puster Valley, and on to Slovenia, West Croatia, Hungary and Slovakia. After a 1,160-km journey lasting 15 hours and 7 minutes, Plattner reached his final destination: the Czech Republic. On arriving in the tenth country of this epic ‘Eco Tour’, he parked his Golf V TDI running on Bridgestone „B390 Eco” tyres with the Volkswagen dealer in Brünn. “Above all, I would like to praise the Bridgestone ‘B390’ tyres. I have used them on previous record attempts and, yet again, they’ve performed splendidly. Not only do they have excellent fuel saving qualities, but they’re also comfortable and have first-rate handling characteristics,“ said Plattner after his tour throughout Europa which earned him a place in the ‘Guinness Book of Records’.

Goodyear aircraft tyres are recommended

In an ambitious test project, the american consumer magazine “The Aviation Consumer” has undertaken, the magazine bought 11 aircraft tires and subjected them to 200 simulated landings, plus a skid test. “Sometimes the cheapest tire isn’t the best deal. What matters most is tread depth and the more, the better,” the magazine said. In tread depth alone, Goodyear’s “Flight Custom III” was the winner in the June issue.

TWS wants to become the market leader in agricultural tyres

Two years ago Trelleborg took over from Pirelli the 40 per cent share of the former commonly owned company Trelleborg Wheel Systems (TWS), which produces agricultural tyres. Now TWS aims at becoming market leader with its two brands Pirelli and Trelleborg.

A major part of this strategy is improving the name recognition of the Trelleborg brand, which up till now has been regarded as another name for bias ply tyres within the TWS-group while Pirelli covered the radial segment. In addition to that TWS is thinking about bringing another brand into the company’s portfolio. Whether this will be accomplished by the creation of a completely new brand, or by the acquisition of a known brand, has not been decided yet, Maurizio Vischi, president of TWS, told Tyres & Accessories.

The Swedish corporate group Trelleborg, named after the town where it is located, has reached a turnover of about 1.95 billion Euro and has almost 15,000 employees. As one of four Business Units, Trelleborg Wheels Systems (TWS) contributes about 330 million to the overall turnover, with 2,380 employees.

When it comes to the agricultural tyre segment, the direction of the TWS brands has been contrary. While the Pirelli brand was regarded as a synonym for the use of radial technology for agricultural tyres, the Trelleborg brand stood for bias ply forestry and implement tyres. Slowly, the boundaries seem to become blurred. For example, the new TM 2000 radial tyre for harvesters, and a new radial implement tyre, are produced with the Trelleborg logo on the sidewall.

Tyres smuggled into Ethiopia through the port of Djibouti cost the Government 64 m. Birr (8.8 m Euro) in lost import duty every year. The illegal trade has affected the Addis tyre factory, which has cut production and laid off workers. Losses incurred by the factory and importers are estimated at 196 m Birr (26.98 m Euro). The problem is a serious one: Berhanu Mewa, President of the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce, warned that failure to control the smuggling “would cripple the country’s economy”.

The Future of Tyres: Innovations in Airless and Smart Tyres

Tyres are often overlooked despite playing a vital role in keeping us safe during daily commutes and road trips. However, technology is transforming these rubber rings into advanced components that promote sustainability and revolutionise our driving experience. Like every other niche in the automotive space, the tyre industry is looking to the future. These advances also contribute to many professions that require driving. For instance, delivery drivers in bustling cities like London depend on reliable tyres to navigate the urban landscape efficiently. Many people are now exploring delivery driver jobs with their own cars in London on job aggregators like Jooble. These roles not only provide a source of income but also offer the flexibility to balance work with other commitments.
