Delticom announces TyresNet launch

Online tyre retailer Delticom has begun rolling out the first in a series of new national websites that combine tyre sales, tips and information in the one location. Delticom’s name for the new information portal is TyresNet, and it says it aims to “open up the world of tyres and wheels” to motorists and tyre, rim and wheel suppliers. The first two sites to go live cater to the German (reifen.de) and Austrian (reifen.at) markets.

New Alliance row crop tyres

In a bid to lead the row crop sector, Alliance Tire Group has introduced IF (Improved Flexion) and VF (Very improved flexion) low pressure Alliance 354 Agriflex and 354 Agriflex + (VF) narrow radials.

According to the company, the tyres are designed with specific sidewall flexibility, enabling them to carry either the same loads as standard radial tractor tyres but at lower pressures or carry up to 20 per cent (IF) and 40 per cent (VF) heavier loads at the same pressure.

Goodyear supplying tyres for Jeep’s new Renegade

Two different Goodyear tyre models are being fitted as original equipment on the new Jeep Renegade. The Goodyear EfficientGrip SUV has been approved in size 215/65R16 98H, while the Vector4Seasons is supplied in sizes 215/60R17 96V LHD and 215/60R17 96V RHD.

Budget SUV tyres had ‘no chance’ in premium comparison – Continental

German tyre maker Continental has shared its view on the comparative test of ten budget SUV tyres conducted by Auto Bild Allrad magazine. The tyre maker sees the test – which used its ContiCrossContact UHP as a reference tyre – as confirmation of its product’s clear superiority. In a press release, Continental comments: “None of the tested models matched the Continental tyre, which was utilised as reference tyre, in safety-relevant performance. Once again, the Far Eastern products possessed significant weaknesses.”

Lassa Tyres sponsors all indoor FC Barcelona teams

FC Barcelona ad Lassa Tyres have signed a sponsorship deal which makes the Turkish tyre brand a global partner for the next four years. Under the global partnership rights, the club’s basketball, handball, futsal and roller hockey teams, will officially be named as “FC Barcelona Lassa”. The deal took effect on 1 June 2015 and makes Lassa Tyres the “Official Tyre Partner” of FC Barcelona.

Extra inches a first-class solution: Michelin Motorsport’s director talks race tyres and rim diameter

In October 2014, Michelin and Renault Sport announced they would jointly develop 17- and 18-inch diameter tyres for the single-seat Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault 3.5 cars that compete in the WSR (World Series by Renault). After three quarters of a year, the partners’ conclusion is that replacing the 13-inch tyres now in use with the two larger sizes is “a first-class solution to make driving more enjoyable still for competitors.”

Second Aeolus tyre range receives TÜV mark

Quality certification by a known, independent organisation adds weight to a product’s credentials, and earlier in the year Aeolus Tyre announced that its new PrecisionACE2 had been awarded the TÜV Tire Test Mark from certification specialist TÜV SÜD. The tyre maker stated at the time that approval of this first product from the ACE2 portfolio would soon be followed by the TÜV certification of a second range, the SteeringACE2. This has now been achieved.

John McGuinness supports TyreSafe message ahead of 2015 Isle of Man TT

Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness has lent his support to TyreSafe’s message to fans loading their bikes up and heading to the island this week. The tyre safety organisation said that the involvement of McGuinness, who has competed in the event since 1996 and has the second most race wins in its history, “highlights the importance” of its message. While TyreSafe has been successful in recruiting supporters from within the tyre industry and from institutions such as regional police forces, this shows even further growth into the world of motorsport. The 2015 TT starts on Saturday, with tens of thousands of riders and fans descending on the island to follow the two weeks of races.

Prototype 18-inch tyres taken for a spin in Monaco

Last week’s Monaco Grand Prix delivered Nico Rosberg his third victory in a row at the track, and prior to the race the Circuit de Monaco was also host to 18-inch tyre demonstrations for two F1 feeder championships. Pirelli showed off its larger diameter race-ready GP2 rubber while Renault Sport Technologies fielded a Formula Renault 3.5 car fitted with 18-inch Michelin tyres. These demonstrations are significant given both tyre makers’ views on the direction F1 tyre evolution should take, a topic of particular interest now that tenders are open for F1 tyre supply between 2017 and 2019.

Infinity Tyres announces new European sales team and office

Infinity Tyres, part of the Al Dobowi Group, has announced two new appointments in European leadership positions. Mitchell Peeters and Riccardo Costa, formerly of Goodyear, have joined the company in the roles of executive director and general manager Europe respectively, operating out of a new European sales office, based in Madrid, Spain.

Pirelli tyres fitted on Ducati Scrambler Vibrazioni Art Design special edition

The Ducati Scrambler special edition introduced on 22 May at the London Bike Shed – the “SC-Rumble” – is the latest chapter in Pirelli’s technical collaboration with its compatriot. Like other versions of the Scrambler, the bike is fitted with Pirelli MT 60 RS tyres, with the tread replicated on the tank along with the Ducati Scrambler logo. The SC-Rumble will begin a trip from the British capital to Biarritz, where it will participate in the Wheels and Waves event.

Firestone brand relaunch continues with Reading Festival sponsorship, new tyres

Firestone’s relaunch through a series of summer music festival sponsorships – the Firestone Music Tour announced at the Geneva Motor Show – will include events in Spain, Germany, France, Poland, Italy and at the Reading Festival in the UK. Firestone has committed to a high-profile presence in Reading, led by a team of Firestone roadies incorporating a large Firestone stand, signage, special attractions, parking and campsite activities. A new Firestone website will also be launched shortly, supplemented by a concerted social networking campaign on a variety of online channels.

Apollo Tyres promotes Gaurav Kumar to CFO

A replacement has been found for Raj Banerji, who resigned as Apollo Tyres’ chief financial officer after less than two months in the job. Gaurav Kumar, previously group head of corporate strategy and finance, has taken on the role and will oversee Apollo Tyres’ global accounts, finance, taxation and investor relations from the company’s headquarters in Gurgaon, India. He reports to vice-chairman and managing director, Neeraj Kanwar.

Two Continental tyres chosen for newest Škoda Superb

The market launch for the latest-generation Škoda Superb is imminent, and Continental reports that two of its tyre models have been selected as original equipment on the luxury saloon. The ContiEcoContact 5 and ContiPremiumContact 5 have both been approved for fitment on the Škoda flagship. Effective immediately, size 215/55 R 17 V versions of the two tyre lines will be shipped to Škoda’s plant in Kvasiny, Czech Republic.
