Krone has become the first trailer manufacturer to offer Goodyear’s latest winter trailer tyre as original equipment. It has approved the Goodyear Ultra Grip Max T in sizes 385/65R22.5 160 K 158 L and 385/55R22.5 160 K 158 L for trailers destined for severe winter operations.

Tyre sensors to become an important part of Continental’s in-car network

Prior to the start of the IAA show, which is currently taking place in Frankfurt, Continental’s Dr Elmar Degenhart announced the introduction of new tyre-based technology. The Executive Board chairman stated: “In future we’ll build sensors into tyres that are capable of immediately sensing the texture of a road surface. In this way we will turn the tyre into an important component in our in-car sensor network.”

First Landsail tyres produced at new Thai factory

Growing global demand for Landsail car, high performance and van tyres has prompted Sentury to open a new factory in Thailand and the first Landsail tyres rolled off the production line earlier this week. The new plant will mean a significant increase in the capacity and output of Landsail tyres. A completely automated production line has been introduced, with Sentury investing in the VMI Exxium building machines, which are capable of producing a tyre every 38 seconds.

Tyre survey presents ‘golden opportunity to inform future safety policy’ – TyreSafe

The first phase of its tyre survey produced “startling results”, says TyreSafe, and therefore the organisation is asking all replacement tyre points of sale to support an even larger and more comprehensive second round. Once again, TyreSafe will carry out the survey in partnership with Highways England, and the aim of this second round is to build on the already sizable first round sample in order to offer greater insight into the condition of the nation’s tyres. Data collation will begin on 1 October and the results will provide intelligence-led information to inform future tyre safety policy.

Dunlop Aircraft Tyres tells UK business minister of export sales growth plans

Business minister Anna Soubry visited Dunlop Aircraft Tyres’ Birmingham plant to hear how the manufacturer’s further investment plans will help it expand its product range and increase international sales. The world’s only specialist manufacturer and retreader of aircraft tyres was one of four companies in the West Midlands that the minister visited during a fact-finding day in the region.

Apollo Tyres now partnering with Manchester United in 129 countries

It started two years ago with just two markets – India and the UK – and by the start of 2015, Apollo Tyres’ association with Manchester United Football Club covered 69 countries in Asia, Europe and parts of Africa. The tyre maker now reports that it has extended its relationship with Manchester United even further; it now includes the whole of Africa, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Brunei.

Cooper becomes Dubai International Motor Show official tyre sponsor

Cooper Tire will be the official tyre sponsor of this year’s Dubai International Motor Show. Announced during a visit by the vice president and managing director of Cooper Tire, Europe and the Middle East, Jeff Schumaker, the sponsorship will mark the tyre brand’s first move to increase its presence across the Middle East ahead of a series of new product arrivals over the coming months. The manufacturer has a tangential connection to the region through Arsenal Football Club, for whom it is the Official Tyre; Arsenal’s shirt sponsor is Dubai-based airline, Emirates.

Vettel criticises tyres after Belgian GP incident; Pirelli blames a lack of rules

Paul Hembery may have recalled the 2013 British Grand Prix debacle as he watched the spectacular tyre failure that robbed Sebastian Vettel of a podium finish in yesterday’s race at Spa. Vettel certainly did after the event, and he didn’t shy away from sharing his thoughts on the Pirelli rubber. This negative publicity couldn’t come at a worse time for the tyre maker, as the tender process to decide between Pirelli and Michelin supply from 2017 is currently under way.

Goodyear Ultra Grip Max tyres an OE option for DAF trucks

DAF has become the first truck manufacturer to approve Goodyear’s brand new Ultra Grip Max winter tyres as a factory-fitted option. Operators ordering new DAF trucks built from week 41 onwards and destined for service in severe winter conditions can now specify Ultra Grip Max S steer axle tyres and Ultra Grip Max D drive axle tyres in sizes 315/70R22.5 and 315/80R22.5.

The Avon Tyres British GT Championship returns this weekend, 22-23 August, for its penultimate round at one of the calendar’s fastest circuits, the Snetterton 300. Even cheaper Chinese tyres?

While ChemChina’s deal with Camfin to take over Pirelli officially got under way this month, not everyone connected to the economy in the People’s Republic was looking so positive. The stock market has been in freefall and industrial production looks to have taken a big hit. The Chinese state’s answer? To devalue the national currency (the yuan renminbi or RMB) three times in a week and make already cheap Chinese exports even cheaper.

Continental fits latest tyres ContiPressureCheck to electric truck

Continental AG supplying its third generation truck tyres and ContiPressureCheck to a joint pilot project between BMW Group and its logistics partner Scherm Group to promote environmentally friendly trucks. Conti is equipping a Terberg YT202-EV with 355/50 R22.5 Conti EcoPlus HS3 tyres on the steer axle; Conti EcoPlus HD3 in size 295/55 R22.5 on the drive axle; and 445/45 R19.5 Conti Hybrid HT3 trailer tyres in size on the trailer.
