Test highlights performance gap between brand name and budget tyres

The October-released 11/2015 edition of German motoring publication Auto Bild Sportscars features a test of size 225/45 R18 V/Y winter tyres. Eight different products – seven well-known brands and one budget tyre – were put to the test while fitted to a Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The budget tyre, Horizon, received poor marks for its performance and was rated ‘not recommended’ by the Auto Bild Sportscars testers.

Sport auto tests W speed rated winter tyres

Yet another test win for Continental. The tyre maker has topped the tables in the comparative evaluation of seven size 235/35 R19 winter tyres carried out by German publication sport auto. Using a VW Golf R as test vehicle, the W rated tyres were subject to the usual challenges; the Continental WinterContact TS 850P finished first with a ‘highly recommended’ rating.

TyreSafe helps Britain’s largest motorway police group measure tread depth

TyreSafe has presented Central Motorways Police Group (CMPG) commanding officer, Superintendent Paul Keasey, with tread depth gauges to help it implement its tyre safety policy. The CMPG is responsible for over 400 miles of Britain’s busiest motorway network, reaching from the Welsh borders through to Cheshire and across to the East of Birmingham. Comprising specially trained officers from the West Midlands, West Mercia and Staffordshire police forces, CMPG is the largest single motorway police group in Britain.

Zafco launches new tyres at SEMA 2015

Zafco has unveiled two new tyres at Las Vegas’ SEMA show. The all-season Zeetex ZT3000, an eco-friendly alternative in the PCR category that offers exceptional wet grip and balanced driving behavior, and the slick Accelera Delta Sport, the brand’s first racing tyre engineered with the “R-Compound” are the new models on stand, which also featured Zeetex’s Café Zee concept.

3 tyres rated ‘exemplary’ in Auto Bild’s winter tyre test

Having reduced a field of 51 to 19, Auto Bild announced that three of the winter tyres tested had made it all the way to the top of the German magazine’s rankings, picking up “exemplary” ratings. Continental’s WinterContact TS 850, Pirelli’s Winter Snowcontrol Serie 3, and the Barum Polaris 3 were the best performers, according to Auto Bild’s testers, who ranked the tyres based on their performance on snowy, wet and dry roads and their cost. The tests were performed on a VW Polo, with the tyres sized 185/60R15 T.

Sailun launches new Atrezzo PCR tyres

Sailun Tyres has launched two new passenger car tyres developed particularly for the European market in an event held in the Brittany village of Lohéac, France. The tyres both appear in the company’s Atrezzo PCR line; the Atrezzo Elite asymmetrical high performance tread and the Atrezzo Eco, designed as a more eco-friendly alternative to sit below the Elite in terms of size profile. Compared to their predecessor, the 90-size SH-402, the tyres both have patterns in keeping with current market trends. During the presentation of the two new tyres, Sailun also gave details of its first all-season tyre, the Atrezo 4 Seasons, which has also been launched in five sizes. The event follows Sailun’s collaborative events in Lohéac and Val d’Isère with its French distributor DistriCash, though this time the manufacturer was “standing alone,” in the words of Sailun Jinyu (Europe) managing director Martin West, with guests attending from across Europe.

Hankook i*cept RS² lauded for eco performance

Hankook’s new winter tyre, the i*cept RS² has been named the “Auto Bild Eco-Master 2015”, top in the category amongst 50 brands. The tyre, for city, compact and medium-sized cars was tested in an independent supertest by Auto Bild, Europe’s highest circulation car magazine.

Nokian Tyres sales and profits down in Q3

Nokian Tyres has reported third quarter 2015 sales of 311 million euros, down 5.1 per cent on the previous year. Looking at the first nine months of the year, the firm achieved sales of 1.009 billion euros, down 7.1 per cent. Operating profit, however, rose by 0.3 per cent to 72.4 million euros, resulting in an operating margin of 23.3 per cent in 2015 (the prior year figure was 22 per cent). In the first three quarters operating profit amounted to 201.2 million euros now.

Saracens Tyres first to join Michelin Exelagri farm tyre partnership in North Wales

Saracens Tyres has become the first agricultural tyre dealer in North Wales to join Michelin’s Exelagri dealer partnership programme. The company joins nearly 800 farm tyre specialists selected by Michelin across Europe to carry the company’s accreditation of agricultural expertise. Admission to the network follows an independent 48-point quality audit looking at all aspects of the dealer’s operations, from the levels of staff training and the cleanliness of its workshops, to equipment standards and the quality of advice given to farmers and contractors.
