RTB Tyres returns to CAM

Stamford Tyres achieves higher profits despite slump in turnover

Singapore’s Stamford Tyres Corporation Ltd has reported a 32 per cent year-on-year increase in profit before tax for the third quarter of its 2016 financial year. The company’s profits in the three-month period ending 31 January 2016 amounted to S$1.6 million (£814,000), up from $1.2 million a year earlier. This rise in profit was achieved despite a 20 per cent drop in total group revenue to $60.3 million (£30.7 million). The quarter gross profit margin increased from 21.8 per cent to 25.2 per cent.

Momo tyres to be manufactured in Europe

The Italian tyre brand Momo Tires has signed a contract to manufacture Momo tyres “in Europe”. According to the company, the new partnership includes the production of three brand new models, along with an innovative “four season” tyre to complete the line-up. However, no further details of exactly where the tyres will be produced have yet been released. In answer to questions from Tyres & Accessories, Momo representatives simply said they will publish the name of the producer and the factory soon, which could suggest it is a manufacturer with more than one factory.

Supertyres Welwyn wins best Tyre Dealer crown

thebestof UK Business Award winner 2016 for Tyre Dealers in the UK has been won by Supertyres Motorists Centre in Welwyn Garden City. This well-established, family-run business received 142 reviews during the course of the campaign, which ran from the 4th to the 31st of January. Supertyres Motorists Centre also won the best business in Welwyn Hatfield, after a hard fought battle with Welwyn Roofbox Hire (128 reviews).

Cooper increases football alliance as Avon becomes Everton’s Official Tyre

Avon Tyres will become the Official Tyre of Everton Football Club in the Barclays Premier League 2016/17 season, with three other partnerships giving the brand exposure at every professional level of the sport in the UK. The brand joins its sister Cooper brand in football sponsorship, the latter having been the Official Tyre of Arsenal for the last two seasons.

Kumho has been appointed a key partner and official tyre supplier to Britain’s premier rallying series, the MSA British Rally Championship (BRC). Having developed new products for the 2016 season, Kumho joins rival tyre suppliers Michelin, Pirelli and Dmack in a four-way battle over seven gravel and tarmac rounds, encompassing the slippery asphalt of Ireland, the gravel of the Kielder forests and more surfaces.

Irish superbike champion McCormack switches to Bridgestone tyres

A multiple Irish superbike champion will run on Bridgestone rubber for the first time, following the recommendation of a friend and selfless fundraiser, who tragically passed away last year. Brian McCormack, an 11-time bike racing champion, is switching to Bridgestone tyres for the first time, after Aidan Lynam – who died in an accident during a charity bike ride for Down Syndrome Ireland in May – had pushed him to make the decision for many months. The 32 year-old Waterford star will change from a formula that has served him well for years, opting for the manufacturer’s Battlax V02 Slicks.

Podium pride of place for Goodyear in all-season tyre test, Nokian & Michelin recommended

It isn’t just assessment time for summer tyres as the warmer months of the year approach. Gute Fahrt magazine has put nine all-season tyres to the test, and this is good news for UK consumers who are taking to this product segment in growing numbers. The tyres were evaluated for their summer characteristics (wet and dry braking and handling, rolling resistance, noise and comfort) as well as their performance in the snow. All-season mastery of the various weather scenarios was also compared to the characteristics of dedicated seasonal rubber.

Budget tyres declared a “high risk” in GTÜ summer tyre test

As a way of introducing its 2016 summer tyre test, German vehicle inspection organisation GTÜ poses the question: Is expensive really better when purchasing tyres? To provide an answer, GTÜ – together with car magazine Auto Zeitung – evaluated 14 size 225/45 R 17 summer tyres that ranged in price between €210 and €430 per set. The test candidates included recent releases from Dunlop, Goodyear, Falken and GT Radial, as well as several products described as “budget tyres from the Far East.”

Submissions open for TyreSafe Awards 2016

UK tyre safety awareness organisation TyreSafe invites all road safety stakeholders to enter submissions for the TyreSafe Awards 2016. The awards are open to non-members of TyreSafe as well as its supporters and seek to recognise the work and achievements of those campaigning to raise awareness of tyre safety in the UK during 2015. Winners will be presented with their awards at an evening ceremony on 14 July.
