Michelin welcomes K&M Tyres as Exelagri partner

K&M Tyres is the newest member of Michelin’s Exelagri dealer partnership programme. The Suffolk-based business gained this status after passing an independent 48-point quality audit that looked at key aspects of its operation, and as an Exelagri partner it has pledged to offer an extensive range of Michelin agricultural sector products and services, 24/7 breakdown support, quality tyre repairs, wheel alignment checks and the ability to fit tyres both on-site and in the field. Exelagri status also includes a commitment to offering customers a tyre delivery service, backed up by the provision of expert technical advice and aftersales support.

Falken launches Eurowinter PCR, van cold weather tyres

Falken has unveiled new car and van winter tyres. The new high performance Eurowinter HS01 car tyre is the product of two years of development and thousands of testing miles, Falken says. One product of this period is the new 3D siping used in the innovative new tread design, which Falken calls Miura-Ori sipes. The tread also has interlocking grooves that help to handle tough winter conditions. The tyre is described by Falken as its latest high-tech product.

Kumho Smasher, Sealant tyres win IDEA awards

Kumho’s Smasher and Sealant tyres have been honoured with 2016 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA). The company said that the US awards, which complete a trio of the world’s top three design accolades, alongside Germany’s Red Dot and iF International Forum Design, mean that its design and technological capabilities have now been recognised by the industry as a whole.

Latest Goodyear winter range extended to SUV tyres

The ‘Gen-1’ version of Goodyear’s UltraGrip Performance winter passenger car tyre was launched in time for the previous winter, and this year the range has been extended with the addition of an SUV version. The first three UltraGrip Performance SUV Gen-1 sizes were introduced in May and the range is now available in 16 dimensions (including seven new SKUs), a size portfolio said to cover more than 40 per cent of the SUV car parc.

Pirelli celebrates TyreSafe Safety in the Community award

Pirelli recently received the Safety in the Community accolade at the annual TyreSafe Awards ceremony at the Belfry Hotel and Resort. Last year Pirelli ran a number of activities along these lines including specific events during TyreSafe’s October Tyre Safety Month. The aim of the campaign was to raise awareness within the local community about the required tread depth of tyres.

Pirelli tyres OE on Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio

The new Giulia Quadrifoglio is, as evo magazine puts it, the car that “could potentially re-launch” Alfa Romeo. The saloon can sprint from 62mph in just 3.9 seconds and its 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 sends a healthy 503bhp to the rear wheels. This power comes in contact with the road through Pirelli tyres – the P Zero Corsa has been selected as the Giulia Quadrifoglio’s original equipment fitment.

TyreSafe’s Innovation and Technology Award, sponsored by Michelin Tyre, has been awarded to Sigmavision. The award recognises the innovative use of technology within the tyre industry, and TyreSafe’s positive contribution to raising awareness of tyre safety issues. Chairman of TyreSafe, Stuart Jackson said the Sigmavision TreadReader shows “versatility [and] capability for adoption across a comprehensive span of applications.”

Preparing for re-entry: Continental returns to agri tyres with Project LousAgro

In the aftermath of June’s Brexit referendum, more than a few voices called for the UK government to reconsider its decision to leave the European Union. And while the new Prime Minister is adamant that “Brexit means Brexit,” we retain the option of later rejoining the club should we wish to. The same applies within the tyre industry, as we recently witnessed with Germany’s Continental AG. More than a decade after its ‘Agrexit’, the company will soon once again produce agricultural tyres under its main Continental brand name.

TyreSafe: over 10 million vehicles on an illegal tyre

TyreSafe shared the results of its latest national tyre survey on 14 July, with the shocking headline figure suggesting that “over 10 million UK motorists could drive a vehicle with an illegal and dangerous tyre during 2016”. Speaking during the Tyre Safety Month Briefing, TyreSafe chairman Stuart Jackson shared how the survey, conducted by TyreSafe in partnership with Highways England, reveals that more than 27 per cent of tyres were already illegal when they were replaced. That equates to more than one-in-four of the 37 million cars and light commercial vehicles (LCVs) on the UK’s roads.

TÜV Süd: Semi-slick tyres have “no place” on public roads

Semi-slick tyres are unsuitable for road use, state the team behind a comparative test published by Swiss magazine Auto Illustrierte. An evaluation between standard, ultra-high performance and semi-slick tyres conducted at the Goodyear proving ground in Mireval, France showed the racing tyres take much longer to stop on wet road surfaces than their more conventional counterparts. Specialists from TÜV Süd supported the Auto Illustrierte testing and evaluated the results as a neutral partner.

Goodyear supplying summer, all-season tyres for new Renault Scénic

At this year’s Geneva Motor Show, Renault lifted the wraps on the fourth generation of its Scénic multi-purpose vehicle. The new model is equipped across the range with 20-inch rims as standard, a bold choice for a mass market car yet a size exterior designer Jérémie Sommer pushed, claiming the larger diameter rims form a “fundamental part” of the Scénic’s “perfectly-balanced silhouette and pleasing proportions.” The tyre size of choice for the new Renault is 195/55 R20, and Goodyear will act as exclusive all-season tyre supplier. The tyre maker will also deliver summer tyres for certain models.

Michelin ready with next-generation Formula E tyres

Launched in September 2014, the inaugural FIA Formula E Championship an on 18-inch, patterned Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres. Work on developing new tyres for the second Formula E season had already begun when the FIA asked Michelin to continue with the same-spec tyre for the season in order to enable teams use a known tyre when developing their cars to meet new, less restrictive technical regulations. Work on the second-generation tyre nevertheless continued, and Michelin Motorsport says this means “two steps forward will have been taken” in regards to tyre development when its new tyre finally debuts at the start of the third Formula E season.
