Sustainability, recycling and retreading
Sustainability has become a watchword in the tyre business. Often new technology such as recovered materials steal the headlines. However, the fact is that more conventional parts of the tyre business are key to the overall sustainability of the tyre sector. For example, while new technology might be the way to maximise tyre-related fuel efficiency, the more routine realities of tyre husbandry and specifically pressure management make a world of difference. Similarly, the importance of fully integrated retreading and (where appropriate) regrooving in the life of commercial vehicle tyres has never been more critical. So, with that all in mind, the March edition of Tyres & Accessories takes a look at both developments among some of the more forward-thinking retreaders as well as the technologies and issues affecting the whole tyre business when it comes to the subject of sustainability.

Commercial vehicle tyres
In the commercial vehicle tyre segment, suppliers to fleets are increasingly supporting the logistics industry’s sustainability goals with a holistic approach to tyres. The tyres themselves are increasingly tuned to offer a mix of performance characteristics tailored for the different applications, while also ensuring maximum longevity through initial tread life and a carcass that can be regrooved and retreaded. Meanwhile, sensors and increasingly sophisticated approaches to digitalisation are also integrated into full service packages. T&A takes its first look of the year at CV tyres in the March issue.
