Passenger Car Tyres
Tyres & Accessories’ first light vehicle tyre feature of 2024 will focus on mass market car tyres. With container prices and European energy costs remaining relatively high, as well as pressures caused by the cost-of-living crisis, Far East tyre imports have the opportunity to improve their position again in 2024. However, the largest tyre suppliers from China have continued to build off-shore regional production bases, meaning their fortunes are less tied to exports from their home production facilities, which are quite tied up supplying increased demand in Asia. Meanwhile, product innovation is largely focused on sustainable motoring in one way or another. Manufacturers are supplying increasingly efficient tyres to anticipate the rise of electric and hybrid vehicles. While EV market development has cooled somewhat, it is still set to be a driver of new car sales growth, meaning original equipment supply has increased purpose. The replacement tyre market will also be buoyed in Europe by increasing average vehicle ages. Socioeconomic flux is often a catalyst for change, and there remains the opportunity to disrupt established patterns in the car tyre market.
