Bridgestone a Google best case study
Google Automotive Newsletter (Q1/2012) reports that Bridgestone’s Google Display Network safety and winter tyre campaign is its number one case study for an internet campaign in the automotive market in 2011. The Bridgestone campaign, carried out in collaboration with media agency PHD Germany, ran in major European countries and scored on awareness and reach with around one billion ad impressions over the year and up to 380 per cent incremental visitors to the Bridgestone website.

Following its international debut at the recent Geneva Motor Show, Continental AG officially launched its ContiPremiumContact 5 to the trade in Barcelona today. The tyre, which the company describes as “the perfect all-rounder”, offers 15 per cent better wet braking, an 8 per cent rolling resistance improvement, 5 per cent better noise performance and is in fact 2 -5 per cent better than its predecessor (the ContiPremiumContact 2) in all but one respect.

The latest edition of the Michelin guide Main Cities of Europe goes on sale today; this 31st edition of the Main Cities guide features 44 cities in 20 countries, including four in the UK – London, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Michelin describes the English-language publication as being intended for business travellers and tourists “who want to be able to easily find, for example, a hotel near a convention centre or a restaurant in which they can entertain clients.”

During the last year Michelin has launched two major motorcycle products, the Pilot Road 3 and the Commander II, and these are being followed up by a new range, the Power Cup. This tyre replaces the Michelin Power One Competition, and Michelin says the Power Cup has been designed to “deliver outstanding grip when cornering and accelerating” and helps to improve track lap times compared with its predecessor.

Stéphane Peterhansel in his ALL 4 Racing Mini completed victory in the Dakar rally, aided by American tyre brand, BFGoodrich, recording its twelfth Dakar win – its tenth in a row. The rally finished in Lima, Peru on Sunday, with Peterhansel taking his personal score on the event to 10 wins. BFGoodrich’s maiden Dakar success was in 1999, and the American tyre brand, which belongs to the Michelin group, hasn’t been beaten on the off-road rally since 2002.

Michelin’s bike tyres were fitted to the Dakar Rally motorcycle winner’s bike for the 29th time this weekend; rally winner, Cyril Despres’ KTM was equipped with the latest Michelin Desert Race tyres was the winner, while another Michelin-equipped KTM, ridden by Spaniard Marc Coma claimed second place, completing a one-two finish for Red Bull/KTM. Portugal’s Helder Rodrigues’s Yamaha, also equipped with Michelin Desert front tyres with the French manufacturer’s Bib-Mousse inserts, came third.

FleetMatics, a provider of fleet management solutions for commercial fleet vehicles, has announced that The City Bin Co., based in Dublin, Ireland, has selected FleetMatics to deliver GPS monitoring solutions to improve operational efficiency while reducing costs. The City Bin Co. was founded with the concept of providing "cheaper, greener and easier" waste management and recycling services. "With 28 vehicles, the reasons for implementing a vehicle tracking system were simple," says City Bin Operations Director Niamh Bray. "I wanted to know where certain trucks were going and be able to plan routes to prevent any overlap."

2011 was Kumho’s ninth and final year as official supplier to the Formula 3 Euro Series, for which the company created a new tyre with stiffer construction and softer tread compound. The intention was to create a cover with a more significant performance peak coupled to a reduction in grip after just a few laps, what Kumho views as the type of cycle F3’s aspiring Grand Prix drivers need to cope with if they are to make it to the pinnacle of motorsport. The product helped competitors to break lap records achieved on the previous tyre.

Last year, Karl Lagerfeld took the Pirelli Calendar on a journey into the realm of classical history with his 36 black and white photographs inspired by Greek and Roman mythology. Largerfeld’s work brought the calendar into new territory and in doing so raised a few eyebrows. In contrast, the 2012 Pirelli Calendar represents a return to more traditional territory – shot on the island of Corsica, the eighteen black and white and seven colour images from the lens of Mario Sorrenti place a strong emphasis on natural beauty. Months after teaser photos first trickled out and were published by media outlets around the world, on the evening of 6 December the 2012 edition of the prestigious Pirelli Calendar was launched at “The Amory”, the 19th century New York military landmark.
