Cooper to take ‘strong presence’ to Moscow Motor Show
Cooper Tire Europe is demonstrating its increasing interest in the Russian market by attending the Moscow International Motor Show with what it calls an “extensive range of high-performance, winter and 4x4” tyre products. The Moscow Motor Show runs from 26 – 29 August.

Delphi Product & Service Solutions (DPSS) has launched a redesigned online catalogue for 17 European countries. The site allows users to search by vehicle (make, model, etc.) as well as Delphi, OE and competitor part numbers. Users can also look for parts via the vehicle registration number.

Tire Industry Association executive vice president Roy Littlefield will be a featured speaker at the upcoming Latin American & Caribbean Tyre Expo, Tire Review reports. The presentation, titled, “What is TIA and What Can TIA Do for You?” is scheduled for 25 July at 10:45. Littlefield is part of panel of speakers comprised of distinguished tire industry leaders. The show takes place between 24-27 July at the Atlapa Convention Center in Panama, Panama.

Kama brand tyres once again feature amongst the best products in Tartarstan. Russian company Tatneft reports that Two sizes of Kama Euro tyre – 129 195/55 R15 and 205/55 R16 – produced by subsidiary tyre maker Nizhnekamskshina, and three Kama N series tyres – NR 201 245/70 R19,5, NF 201 245/70 R19,5 and NT 201 385/65 R22,5 – produced by the Nizhnekamsk SSC Tire Factory, were recognised in the ‘industrial and technology products’ category of the “Best Goods and Services of the Republic of Tatarstan – 2013” contest.

Pro-Align has trained Team UK Auto Tech’s Alex Knight on the Hunter Elite TD imaging aligner in readiness for World Skills Leipzig 2013. Pro-Align trainer Barry Sumner helped Knight familiarise himself with the Hunter imaging aligner with QuickGrip targets, which will be the featured alignment equipment at World Skills Leipzig, extending his alignment knowledge. Knight commented, “My previous wheel alignment experience has been rather limited, so today was invaluable. The Hunter is so quick, easy to use, and far better than anything else I have used in the past.”

As well as a number of other aftermarket-orientated seminars Tyres & Accessories has already reported on, Autopromotec’s AutopromotecEDU plenary track also featured what was purportedly Italy’s first conference on remanufacturing. Entitled, “Excellence in material recycling and the industrial remanufacturing cycle”, the conference was introduced and moderated by Il Sole 24 Ore’s journalist Maurizio Caprino. He provided an overview on the current state and future perspectives of the remanufacturing industry, with several interesting presentations.

Bridgestone has agreed to supply Aberdeen’s Bruce Smart with its Battlax Sport Touring T30 tyre as he embarks on a £1 million charity adventure in memory of his mother. His 75,000 mile journey will cross 84 countries in 18 months, a challenge which will be compounded by his decision to do it all on a Suzuki GSX-R1000. Bridgestone will follow the 36 year-old’s quest to raise £1 million for four different charities, supplying him with new tyres when necessary. Smart, who is raising money for The Children’s Trust Tadworth, the Born Free Foundation, the Royal British Legion and St Christopher’s Hospice, dropped by Bridgestone’s head offices in Warwick as he begins his round-the-world mission.

Continental has much to talk about having recently begun a series of planned third generation commercial tyre launches with three coach and bus tyres. The third generation is being marked by an increased level of application specialisation in the commercial segment, the details of which can be found on pp. 52-53 of April’s Tyres & Accessories. The Conti Coach, for long distance travel, the Conti CityPlus, for regional, or intercity use, and the Conti Urban, which has been optimised for typical city-based usage. All three tyres are grouped under the more traditionally Conti-style product number, HA3, though increased branding is one of the focal points for Conti’s third generation.

The link between Continental’s sponsorship of top level footballing events such as the UEFA Champions League and Euro 2012 and its tyre business was made explicit during the latter of these events. In Poland Coaches for players and fans were fitted with Conti’s HSR2 tyre and a specially modified HSU1 respectively by the Conti360⁰ network. Public transportation and its role in Europe remained high on Conti’s agenda moving into 2013 as the manufacturer introduced the first commercial vehicle tyres of its “third generation”: a three product speciality coach tyre line-up. Once again, Conti chose to introduce these products alongside its football sponsorship at St George’s Park in rural Staffordshire, the English Football Association’s new training and development site of which Conti is an official supporter, its branding displayed in various places around the impressive state of the art facility.
