Vettel criticises tyres after Belgian GP incident; Pirelli blames a lack of rules
Paul Hembery may have recalled the 2013 British Grand Prix debacle as he watched the spectacular tyre failure that robbed Sebastian Vettel of a podium finish in yesterday’s race at Spa. Vettel certainly did after the event, and he didn’t shy away from sharing his thoughts on the Pirelli rubber. This negative publicity couldn’t come at a worse time for the tyre maker, as the tender process to decide between Pirelli and Michelin supply from 2017 is currently under way.

All-new policy?
On the one hand, a steadily growing economy and healthily increasing commercial vehicle registrations figures appear to point to a bright future for the UK truck tyre segment. However, on the other hand, the situation is complicated by the increasing imports of low-cost and often un-reported Chinese tyre imports – something that is particularly affecting both current and future retread sales, owing to these products’ lack of retreadability.

Pirelli targeting UK’s growing urban commuter car parc with all-season product
Launched internationally in Sicily at the beginning of 2015, Pirelli hosted a local UK market event to mark the introduction of its Cinturato All Season tyre at the Tamworth Snowdome. Closed to the public, the Snowdome’s indoor ski slope provided an excellent illustration of the increased mobility offered by the tyre; it allowed the demonstration Vauxhall Astra to ascend the steep inclines, which were rendered completely unmanageable when equipped with summer tyres. Meanwhile, Pirelli used warm outside conditions to demonstrate the tyre in dry and wet manoeuvres, particularly emphasising safety with a wet brake and swerve workshop.
