GT Radial promotes SportActive UHP tyre with Evo track day partnership
Giti Tire is currently partnering with performance car magazine Evo for a series of track days. The manufacturer states that this “provides an excellent platform” from which to promote its current flagship ultra-high performance product, the GT Radial SportActive. Five events are held at Bedford Autodrome every year. With three track days completed and two more in the diary, including the popular How Fast? on 22 October with F1-style qualifying timed laps and leaderboard, the partnership is revving up.

Bridgestone has become the first Founding Partner of a new digital platform dedicated to the Olympic Movement. The tyre maker signed a collaborative agreement with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) yesterday to confirm its support of the Olympic Channel, a platform that gives fans the opportunity to experience the power of sport and the Olympic Movement all year round. The Olympic Channel will launch worldwide on Sunday 21 August following the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games Rio 2016. Bridgestone has committed to this partnership for a four-year period.

Dmack has continued to improve its position in the FIA World Rally Championship with recent Drive Dmack team success, supported by newly launched, British manufactured tyres. Following its new gravel tyre range earlier in the 2016 season, the brand is bringing its new range of tarmac tyres to next weeks ADAC Rallye Deutschland – the first all-asphalt round of the series. Playing its mid-season joker, which permits the firm to homologate a new specification asphalt tyre, Dmack will debut a revised version of its dry weather DMT-RC2 along with the all-new DMT-W full wet pattern.

24 hours after nominations closed on 2 August, the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) has published the list of finalists for the 2016 NTDA Tyre Industry Awards. According to the association, over the last three months the NTDA has been “inundated” with submissions. As a result a total of 57 entries across the eight award categories have now made it to the final.

Derby County has made Avon Tyres its back of shirt and shorts sponsor for the upcoming 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship season. The sponsorship agreement means the Avon Tyres logo will appear on the back of the Rams’ first-team shirts and shorts for the entire campaign. Avon initially teamed up with the club in February 2016 to become the Rams’ Official Tyre Partner. The brand says it opted to increase its involvement for the new season due to the success of the partnership.

Vipal brand hot retreading products will be manufactured in Spain thanks to a new joint venture started by the South American market leader and Mezclas Caucho. Not only is this a first in Europe; the JV’s production line will be the first anywhere in the world for Vipal outside its domestic Brazilian market. The agreement was officially signed during Reifen 2016, the world’s largest tyre trade show, which was held in May in Essen, Germany. It adds to Vipals increased activities in Europe, marked by sustained expansion over recent years.

It seems reports of the demise of the Department for Transport (DfT) were over stated. On 16 July – coincidently the day of the annual TyreSafe briefing – the new post-Brexit UK Prime Minister, Theresa May, embarked on a cabinet reshuffle. As it turned out this was no simple parlour shuffle, but a full-on single-hand pharaoh shuffle. As heads rolled and others moved in, while still others moved around, unnamed sources told The Telegraph that the Department for Transport (DfT) was being shut down. At the time, it looked like the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills and the Department for Energy and Climate Change were also being axed to make way for more streamlined departments for Industry and Infrastructure.

Michelin’s new Pilot Sport 4 tyre has won the Auto Express Ultimate Tyre Test “by a clear margin” in the dry. The tyre performed well in virtually all of the test categories, which include dry handling, dry braking, wet handling, wet braking, wet cornering, straight aquaplaning, curved aquaplaning, rolling resistance and cabin noise.

The same applies within the tyre industry, as we recently witnessed with Germany’s Continental AG. More than a decade after its ‘Agrexit’, the company will soon once again produce agricultural tyres under its main Continental brand name.
